    Effect of Gender Equality Education on Health Students Gender Perceptions and Roles: A Randomized Controlled Trial

    Aim To evaluate the impact of community gender equality education program on health sciences students' perceptions of gender, gender roles, and their awareness of social norms and gender inequality. Design A single-blind, two-arm, parallel-group randomized controlled trial. Methods Conducted with 70 students at a foundation university in Istanbul (2024-2025). The intervention group received two weeks structured training. Data were collected using the Perception of Gender Scale (PGS) and Gender Roles Attitude Scale (GRAS). Results No significant differences were observed at baseline. Post-intervention, the intervention group showed significant improvements in PGS and GRAS scores, while no change was found in the control group. Conclusion Short-term gender equality education program effectively improved students' gender perceptions and attitudes.

    Past and Present of Nation-Building: Ideological Instrumentalization of Ministry of Youth and Sports of Turkey

    When Erdogan declared in 2012, 'We will raise a pious generation', Turkey already had a national identity rooted in secularism and Turkism since the early Republic. His statement signalled an attempt to reshape identity along the AKP's anti-Kemalist lines. This study examines shifting nation-building agendas in state-run youth and sports institutions, comparing the early Republican era with the AKP period. Early programmes emphasized Turkism, secularism, and paramilitarism, reflecting the ideological imperatives of the time. Under the AKP, however, programmes increasingly promoted Islamism and neo-Ottomanism, opposing earlier values. The study argues that AKP-era youth policies deliberately sought to replace Kemalist principles, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports serving as a channel for ideological nation-building absent in formal education.

    Logistics Performance and Agricultural Exports: Evidence From Sub-Saharan Africa

    This paper investigates the relationship between logistics performance and agricultural exports in Sub-Saharan Africa. Using dynamic panel data from 2012 to 2022, we examine the impact of various components of logistics performance on aggregate agricultural exports. We also analyse how logistics performance affects exports in agricultural subsectors. Our results show that improvements in logistics infrastructure, customs procedures, and international shipping services significantly increase agricultural export performance. The food and live animals subsector benefits the most, followed by crude materials and animal and vegetable oils and fats subsectors. We also find that financial development, foreign direct investment, and world demand are important drivers of agricultural exports in Sub-Saharan Africa. We include institutional quality indicators in our analysis for robustness checks, showing that governance factors also play a significant role in boosting exports. These findings highlight the need for targeted investment in logistics and complementary economic policies, supported by good governance, to harness the region's agricultural export potential and promote sustainable economic development.

    Implementation of an AI-Enhanced Motor and Cognitive Intervention: A Case Study in Developmental Delay

    This study aimed to explore the implementation of an AI-enhanced motor and cognitive intervention for a 7-year-old child with developmental delay. A case study design was employed using an A-B framework (pre-test, intervention, post-test) over 12 weeks. The intervention incorporated AI-based tools such as Lumosity, Just Dance, and Cogmed for tailored motor and cognitive activities. The Bruininks-Oseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency-2 Brief Form (BOT-2 BF) and the Dynamic Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment for Children (DOTCA-Ch) were used to evaluate outcomes. Post-intervention, significant improvements were observed in BOT-2 BF and DOTCA-Ch scores, indicating enhanced motor coordination, and cognitive abilities. AI-enhanced interventions demonstrated the potential to address developmental delays by providing adaptive, engaging, and effective therapeutic activities. The findings highlight the feasibility of integrating AI tools into therapy, with implications for broader adoption in addressing developmental challenges. Further research is recommended to explore generalizability and long-term effects.

    Sensory Processing Skills and School Functions in School-Aged Children With Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder: a Gender-Based Analysis

    Sensory processing skills are important for school functioning, learning and school participation. Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) may need additional support in the school context. This study aims to assess sensory processing skills and school functions in children with ADHD, focusing on gender differences. We included 118 children of whom 57 had ADHD and 61 were typically developing peers. Sensory processing skills were assessed with the Sensory Integration and Praxis Test subtests (Postrotary Nystagmus, Standing Walk and Balance, Bilateral Motor Coordination), and school functioning was evaluated using the School Function Assessment. Results showed that children with ADHD had worse sensory processing skills and school function, regardless of gender (p < 0.05). In girls with ADHD, Bilateral Motor Coordination emerged as a significant predictor across some sub-parameters of school functioning (Participation: p = 0.022; task supports: p = 0.020; physical tasks: p = 0.012). In boys, balance was particularly significant predictor of physical (p = 0.008) and cognitive functioning (p = 0.008). Boys with ADHD had more difficulty than girls in cognitive/behavioral task adaptations, setup and cleaning, and eating/drinking. Recognizing gender differences among these children is essential for health professionals to deliver more effective and individualized support interventions.

    Relationship Between Executive Functions and School Readiness in Kindergarten Children With Cochlear Implant

    This study aimed to examine the relationship between executive functions and school readiness of kindergarten children with cochlear implants. The study included 109 children between the ages of 57 and 71 months, who were enrolled in a special education practice school for the deaf and followed up by the ear, nose, and throat diseases clinic, who had bilateral severe or profound sensorineural type hearing loss and who used bilateral cochlear implants. The participants' teachers filled out the Childhood Executive Functions Inventory and the Primary School Readiness Scale. The findings showed a significant relationship between the Childhood Executive Functions Inventory-Working Memory, Inhibitory Control, and Total scores and Primary School Readiness Scale of kindergarten children with cochlear implant (r values are -.793, -.819., and -.768, respectively; p < 0.01). The results obtained from this study emphasize the importance of interventions that support the executive functions and school readiness of children with cochlear implants from the earliest period and increase their participation in school life.

    Safety and Efficacy of Umbilical Cord Mesenchymal Stem Cells in the Treatment of Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus: a Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis

    Introduction Many patients struggle to control glucose without side effects. Due to their immunomodulatory and regenerative properties, mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) might treat Diabetes Mellitus (DM). The authors employed this meta-analysis to evaluate the efficacy and safety of umbilical cord MSCs (UCMSCs) for DM management. Methods The PubMed, Cochrane, WOS, Embase, and Scopus databases were searched for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) investigating the effects of UCMSCs on DM (Types 1, 2) till January 2024. Patient demographics, interventions, and outcomes, including glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c%), C-peptide levels, and insulin requirements, were extracted. A comprehensive meta-analysis software was used. Results Eight CTs of 334 patients (172 experimental and 162 controls) were included. UMSCs treatment substantially lowered HbA1c levels (MD = -1.06, 95% CI [-1.27, -0.85], p < 0.00001) with consistent outcomes (i(2) = 0%, p = 0.43). Fasting C-peptide levels were heterogeneous but favored placebo (MD = 0.35, 95% CI [0.15, 0.56], p = 0.0007). In T1D patients, daily insulin requirements decreased considerably (MD = -0.24, 95% CI [-0.29, -0.18], p < 0.00001), with heterogeneity addressed by sensitivity analysis. Conclusion UMSCs therapy reduced HbA1c and insulin requirements, and increased C-peptide levels. Multicenter clinical trials are required to confirm the long-term efficacy and safety of UMSC therapy.

    Populist Securitization of Migration: the Anti-Immigrant Zafer Party Example in Türkiye

    Although T & uuml;rkiye is the largest refugee-hosting country in the world, the Zafer Party's (ZP) (English: Victory Party) discourse on migration as the pioneer representative of the European-style anti-immigrant right party example has been under-studied. To address this gap, this research examines the discursive practices of the ZP through the lens of populist securitization. It focuses on revealing how the ZP employs a people-centred appeal to securitization, explaining how the people are located within its populist discourse as a threatened object of reference and actor. In this way, it empirically contributes to the burgeoning literature bridging between populism and securitization theory. To this end, it conducts an extensive qualitative frame analysis of the party's manifesto, programme, press releases, public speeches uttered by party leader & Uuml;mit & Ouml;zda & gbreve;. The time frame of the research is designated as starting from the establishment of the ZP, i.e. 26 August 2021, to the Presidential and Parliamentary Elections in T & uuml;rkiye, i.e. 14 May 2023. The paper finds out that ZP combines populist and nationalist appeals by creating vertical (down/up) and horizontal (in/out) antagonisms, exhibiting parallels with similar tendencies in its European counterparts.

    Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms and Toileting Behaviors in Turkish Adult Women

    This study aimed to investigate lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) in Turkish adult women and to compare toileting behaviors in women with and without LUTS. This cross-sectional study was conducted in 815 women. The International Consultation on Incontinence Modular Questionnaire - Female LUTS and a toileting behaviors form, created by the authors, were used in evaluations. Nearly 50 % of the women had at least one LUTS, 45.8 % had storage symptoms, 7.4 % had voiding symptoms, and 20.2 % had incontinence symptoms. The rates of premature urination, straining during urination, delayed urination, and sitting on the toilet while urinating were higher in women with LUTS than in women without LUTS (p < .05). The rate of squatting on the toilet while urinating was lower in women with LUTS than those without LUTS (p < .05). Various LUTS were common in adult women. Some toileting behaviors such as premature urination, straining during urination, delayed urination, and sitting on the toilet while urinating were higher in women with LUTS compared to women without LUTS. Since the rate of unhealthy toilet behaviors is higher in women with LUTS, it is important to know unhealthy toilet behaviors in the management of LUTS and to organize training programs to prevent these behaviors and LUTS.

    The Factors Associated With School Readiness: Sensory Processing, Motor, and Visual Perceptual Skills, and Executive Functions in Kindergarten Children

    Many developmental skills are related to children's school readiness in the early years, and these skills are essential for later achievement. Some of these skills include sensory processing, motor and visual perceptual skills, and executive functions. To date, limited research has examined these skills associated with school readiness. This study investigated the relationship between sensory processing, motor and visual perceptual skills, and executive functions, and school readiness in kindergarten children. A total of 138 kindergarten children administered the Sensory Profile, the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test 2- Brief Form, the Test of Visual Perceptual Skills-3, the Childhood Executive Functioning Inventory, and the Primary School Readiness Scale. The results showed that sensory processing, motor and visual perceptual skills, and executive functions were correlated with children's school readiness, and these skills were also highly predictive of children's school readiness (p < 0.05). It is necessary for future studies to consider these skills when assessing school readiness and to include strategies to develop these skills in intervention programs.
