Assessment of Artificial Lighting Conditions in Sunlight-Deprived Classrooms
(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2025) Duyan, Fazila; Kaplan, Elif
Numerous studies on classroom lighting emphasize a close and significant relationship between students' concentration, comprehension of course content, and the efficiency of activities such as drawing, writing, and practices, with the lighting conditions. In this context, it is particularly important to properly design both the physical and psychological effects of artificial lighting, especially in sunlight-deprived classrooms. This study examines the artificial lighting conditions of a classroom located in the basement of a university building, which has no visual connection to the outdoors. The classroom is utilized by students from the departments of Architecture, Interior Architecture, and Industrial Design. The study investigates the effects of current artificial lighting on students, focusing on aspects such as visual perception satisfaction, light colour, illuminance level, glare, and the temporal light modulation effect. To assess students' perception of the existing lighting conditions, an online questionnaire was administered, and a total of 104 students (65 female, 39 male) who had previous experience with the classroom participated in the study. Technical measurements of the existing luminaires were conducted, and the classroom was digitally modelled using the DIALux Evo lighting software. The collected data were analysed using the SPSS statistical analysis program. The findings of the study indicate that students perceived the artificial lighting conditions as inadequate in terms of visual comfort. Moreover, based on technical measurements, simulations, and user evaluations, it was determined that the existing luminaires caused glare and temporal light modulation effects, negatively affecting the classroom environment.

Determination of Post-Earthquake Trauma Level and Investigation of the Relationship with Physical Activity Status
(Turkish Physiotherapy Association, 2025) Tosun, Anil; Yılmaz, Nergis; Luque, Demet Tekın De Las Penas; Tekin De Las Penas Luque, Demet

Objective: The aim of this study was to qualitatively examine Turkish tweets about schizophrenia in respect of stigmatization and discrimination within a one-month period and to conduct emotional analysis using artificial intelligence applications. Method: Using the keyword 'schizophrenia,' Turkish tweets were gathered from the Python Tweepy application between December 19, 2020 and January 18, 2021. Features were extracted using the Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) method and artificial neural networks and tweets were classified as positive, neutral, or negative. Approximately 5% of the tweets were qualitatively analyzed, constituting those most frequently liked and retweeted. Results: The study found that, of the total of 3406 schizophrenia-related messages shared in Turkey over a period of one-month, 2996 were original, and were then retweeted a total of 1823 times, and liked by 25,413 people. It was determined that 63.4% of the tweets shared about schizophrenia contained negative emotions, 28.7% were neutral, and 7.71% expressed positive emotions. Within the scope of the qualitative analysis, 145 tweets were examined and classified under four main themes and two sub-themes; namely, news about violent patients, insult (insulting people in interpersonal relationships, insulting people in the news), mockery, and information. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the Turkish tweets about schizophrenia, which were emotionally analyzed using artificial intelligence were found often to contain negative emotions. It was also seen that Twitter users used the term schizophrenia, not in a medical sense but to insult and make fun of individuals, frequently shared the news that patients were victims or perpetrators of violence, and the messages shared by professional branch organizations or mental health professionals were primarily for conveying information to the public.

The Reflection of Store Image on Icon Brand Perception
(Marmara Univ, Fac Communication, 2021) Ulker, Yelda; Tosun, Nurhan
Today, the increase in the number of stores has led to the emergence of many stores with similar features. The brands had to determine different strategies from stores of other brands while creating images of their stores because of this situation. In line with this purpose, brands, while creating store images, attach importance to store atmosphere elements such as color, product, packaging, store window layout, and light. In addition, the brands that want to be long-lasting and have the loyalty of the consumer today aim to become icon brands. Brands that endeavor to be icon brands also determine the elements of store atmosphere in line with this purpose. In other words, brands that care about store atmosphere differentiate and address the emotions of consumers, and usually try to become icons. In this context, the main purpose of the study is to determine whether there is a significant relationship between store image and icon brands and their sub-dimensions "brand personality", "identity myth" and brand storytelling perception. For this purpose, the research was applied to university students who consume coffee excessively, and the reflection of Starbucks' store image on icon brand perception was examined. In this context, the sample of the research consists of students of Marmara University. This is because it is the second state university with the highest student population in Istanbul and there are Starbucks stores around the campuses of Marmara University, unlike Istanbul University, which has the highest student population. In the study with a sample of 431 people, according to the regression analysis, there was a significant relationship between store image and icon brand perception. In the light of the data obtained, it is concluded that there is also a significant relationship between brand image and icon brand sub-dimensions "brand personality", "identity myth" and "brand storytelling' perception.

Potential Publicity of the Remnant Space in the Upper Modern City: London Low-Line Railway Example
(Yildiz Technical Univ, Fac Architecture, 2020) Akaydin, Ozlem Eren; Onal, Feride
Cities have been exposed to an uncontrolled change, consumption, and transformation process because of the profit-oriented planning systems with the developments dependent on technology and capital. Due to the reasons that can be detailed under major circumstances such as the increase in the private vehicle usage, the planning approaches generated for public spaces during the modernism period, the determination of regional distinctions with stable boundaries, the disconnection in the transitions of public-private spaces, and the inaccurate applications in decontamination of city centres from industry, military and massive transportation areas; caused the existence of the remnant space problematic nature. Especially in cities that are developed very fast, urban outdoor spaces cannot adapt to this process and transform into remnant spaces with generating different problems in daily life. The main theme of the study is to define these problematic urban pieces formally and conceptually in today's upper-modern city context, which is defined with extremism. In the upper-modern city, there are critical changes in public space because of globalization. All the terms and qualifications that are attached to public space; remain incapable because those changes occur in a very fast time period. To explain the upper modern urban space through the scope of anthropology; the urban fabric should produce daily identical interactions, but in upper-modern cities, urban fabric has various losses because of temporary interactions. In the scope of anthropology, the historical and contextual side of the urban space is so valuable, unique, and nominative but in an upper-modern cities, urban space is general and has connectivity problems with its context and close environment. After expanding the meaning of the upper-modern city; remnant space is defined within the interactive relation of the existing similar terms in the international literature. Lands of contempt, empty space, border vacuums, defensible space, lost space, space of uncertainty, awkward space, residual space, gapscape, modern wasteland, and liminal space are associated with the remnant terms. These associated terms helped to explain the remnant space through the emphasis of potentials as new public spaces of the upper-modern cities. The aim of the study is to evaluate the potentials of remnant spaces within the publicity, questioning their spatial offsets in the upper modern city and emphasise the necessity of regenerating these spaces through a theoretical approach that focuses on the human experience. In this context, the Low-Line Railway, which is one of the most important transportation arteries of London, has been examined as a remnant space. The Low-Line refers to the important city flows along the route in between Southwark tube station in the west, London Bridge Station in the east. The most important key approach is to evaluate a remnant space within its unique context to explore its core potential of the remnant space. For this reason, the remnant space is evaluated within its dynamic context by addressing a group of specifications that emphasise the human scale importance as a basis. Resilience; adapting to contextual changes. Placemaking; defining the functional requirements by understanding user needs, regeneration; supporting the remnant space with new values. Social interaction; encouraging active living and recreation. Exemplary; creating an example approach by enhancing biodiversity within the city. Green infrastructure; generating nature-based sustainable solutions for the area. Active pedestrian flow: providing opportunities to reduce the dominance of vehicles. Communication and engagement; getting involved in the user experience, residents, and businesses into the process. Through these criteria, awarded competition projects have been evaluated and potentials of the remnant space have been exposed by enhancing user experience importance.

Molecular Characterization of Resistance and Virulence Genes in Enterococcus Faecium Strains Isolated Between 2000-2021; Systematic Review
(Bilimsel Tip Yayinevi, 2022) Kahraman Kilbas, Elmas Pinar; Kilbas, Imdat; Ciftci, Ihsan Hakki; Kılbaş, Elmas Pınar Kahraman
Introduction: The spread of Vancomycin-Resistant Enterococci (VRE) is a major threat in healthcare institutions, especially for patients in the risk group. The aim of this study is to reveal the antibiotic resistance genes, virulence genes and other accompanying factors detected in vancomycin resistant Enterococcus faecium strains isolated from various clinical specimens in different parts of Turkiye. Material and Methods: For this purpose, a systematic search was carried out using different electronic databases between January 2000 and September 2021. A total of 17 studies were evaluated within the scope of systematic review. Results: The vanA gene was detected the most between the years 2000-2007, and no statistically significant difference was found according to the years. The prevalence of the vanB gene was highest between 2008 and 2013, and no statistical difference was found according to the years (p> 0.05). The vanA gene was mostly detected in Eastern Anatolia, Black Sea, Mediterranean and Aegean, vanB Central Anatolia and Southeastern Anatolia regions. No reports related to the vanC gene were found. Since all strains were E. faecium in our study, it is an expected finding that the vanC gene region was never reported. The esp and hyl gene between 2014-2021. Conclusion: The prevalence of resistance and virulence genes among bacteria is a matter of great concern, limiting treatment options. In particular, effective measures should be taken to prevent healthcare-associated VRE infections, and each institution should report its own resistance data.

An Integrated Methodology Proposal for Sustainable Fashion: Understanding and Examining Criteria Affecting the Second-Hand Clothes Shopping
(Gazi Univ, Fac Engineering Architecture, 2022) Usta, Saliha Karadayi; Kadaifci, Cigdem; Karadayi-usta, Saliha
Sustainable fashion is an important movement that offers numerous benefits in the long run by questioning the actual needs of the consumer, selecting the natural fabrics, preferring the brands providing ethical working conditions for the employees, using the acquired clothes as long as possible, repairing when necessary, and recycling into yarn when the lifetime is over, or transforming into a new product by changing the function of the items. In this context, the most active role of consumers is to prefer quality products that can last for many years and to extend the time of the products remaining in use, especially through the purchase and sale of second-hand clothes. While current papers provide roadmaps based on conceptual details, and consumer perception and attitude, there is no comprehensive study in second-hand shopping practices specific to clothing. Hence, the aim of this study is proposing an integrated methodology to understand the criteria that consumers pay attention in second-hand clothes shopping platforms as a tool that makes sustainable fashion possible via literature review, individual interviews and text mining, to determine the weights of these criteria according to their importance via Step-Wise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA) methodology, and to compare the prominent platform alternatives via Weighted Aggregated Sum Product Assessment (WASPAS) technique. The criteria weights vary depending on the sustainability awareness of consumers, and on the generation gap.
