New Age Negotiations of Power in Türkiye: A Representation of Diverse Profiles
(Univ Pennsylvania Press, 2026) Aytimur, Hilal; Guney, H. Serhat
New Age spirituality intersects with power relations in complex ways. This exploratory study investigates how practitioners in T & uuml;rkiye navigate these intersections. Employing a Bourdieusian framework and utilizing survey data analyzed through cluster analysis, we ity and their interactions with its media and discourses. This analysis reveals distinct approaches to power relations within both the New Age field and the broader socio- political context. Our findings identify three distinct groups: vigilant adopters, negotiated readers, and devoted practitioners. This paper argues that these diverse engagements demonstrate that New Age spirituality in T & uuml;rkiye functions not as a unified challenge to or acceptance of power relations, but as a complex field needs, and social positioning, often resulting in nuanced or even contradictory stances towards societal structures.

(Turkish Chemical Society, 2025) Başkan, Kevser Sözgen; Ersoy, Şeyda Karaman; Akyüz, Merve; Karaman Ersoy, Şeyda; Sözgen Başkan, Kevser
Quercetin (QUE) is the most active compound in the flavone family, commonly found in the leaves, fruits, and flowers of many plants. The separation of QUE from various plant matrices has been a key research area due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, and antitumor properties. In this study, the conditions for synthesizing MMIPs and their use in QUE recovery were examined. Iron (II) chloride tetrahydrate (FeCl2·4H2O) and iron (III) chloride hexahydrate (FeCl3·6H2O) were used to prepare magnetic nanoparticles, and Fe3O4 was synthesized. Tetraethyl orthosilicate (TEOS) was used to coat the resulting Fe3O4 surface with silica. [3-(methacryloxy)propyl] trimethoxysilane (γ-MPS) was used to functionalize the surface of the formed Fe3O4@TEOS structure. The synthesis was carried out using QUE as the template molecule; tetrahydrofuran (THF), ethanol (EtOH), and a solvent mixture of acetone and acetonitrile (ACN) (3:1, v/v) served as porogen solvents; acrylamide (AM), methacrylic acid (MAA), and 4-vinylpyridine (4-VP) were used as functional monomers; ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EDMA) served as the cross-linker, and 2,2’-azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) was used as the initiator at different molar ratios (T:M:CrL, 1:4:20, 1:8:20, and 1:8:40). The recognition and selectivity properties of these polymers were evaluated based on absorbance values at 370 nm obtained through equilibrium assays, which used QUE solutions prepared in THF, ACN, and 50% (v/v) EtOH solvent mixtures at different ratios. It was established that the magnetic imprinted polymer prepared with a 50% (v/v) EtOH solvent mixture and molar ratios of 1:8:40 (QUE:4-VP:EDMA) exhibited the highest adsorption capacity and imprinting factor. Using the prepared QUE-MMIP, QUE was recovered with 33% efficiency from red onion peel extract.

Universal Design Approach To Analysis of Physical Environment for Users With Multiple Sclerosis
(Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya, 2022) Çakır, H.S.; Tosun, A.
The concept of Universal Design aims for the utilization of every product and environment for every individual without the need for further adaptation. The frequent occurrence of Multiple Sclerosis (MS) in societies has necessitated a more innovative and exploratory approach to the field of design. Many of the products and built environments encountered by individuals with MS in their daily lives fall short in terms of meeting safety and accessibility needs. It is essential to establish the correct design approach so that users with MS can meet their needs easily and safely without depending on others. In this research, the problems encountered by users with MS in their residences were evaluated within the framework of Universal Design principles, and design recommendations were stated using a sample case in Turkey. Throughout the study, accessibility challenges, mobility, fatigue and balance problems, vision and lighting conditions, climatization and noise sensitivity, and psychological issues were primarily considered. The residence of the sample user with MS was examined in detail, and an in-depth interview was conducted during the research. The difficulties and life routines of the user with MS were observed and identified. Home design solutions associated with Universal Design principles were represented so that the users with MS have safe and accessible housing regarding their physiological and psychological conditions. The highlighted proposals may contribute to architectural design to make modifications for comfortable and safe housing in related cases having similar symptoms with MS. Future research can benefit from these findings and proposals to provide innovative approaches, develop policies, and conduct interdisciplinary studies on related design issues. © 2022, Universitat Politecnica de Catalunya. Decentralisation as Resistance: Web3’s Potential in Countering Digital Censorship and Redefining Cyber Sovereignty
(Eotvos Lorand Tudomanyegyetem, 2024) Eldem, T.
The Internet, initially celebrated as a bastion of freedom and openness, is increasingly becoming a domain of control, surveillance, and regulation by both states and private entities. The rise of state control and regulation of the Internet, along with the private sector’s expanding control over information, poses significant challenges to the ideals of freedom and openness that once defined the Internet. This article examines the transformation in Internet governance from a state of minimal regulation to a heavily controlled environment by both governments and corporations and explores how the blockchain technology and decentralised architecture underlying Web3 promise to redefine Internet governance and resist censorship. Through a mixed-method approach that synthesises insights from computer science, political science, and legal studies, the paper argues that public blockchains challenge Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ (ICANN) traditional control over DNS and significantly reduce the ability of centralised entities to exert control over content and communication, thereby enhancing freedom of expression and resisting censorship. The ability of Web3 to fully realise this potential is, however, dependent on overcoming complex technical and regulatory challenges. © 2024, Eotvos Lorand Tudomanyegyetem. All rights reserved.

Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation Stretching Combined With Kinesio Taping for Hamstring Flexibility in Amateur Athletes: a Single-Blind, Randomized, Controlled Trial
(University School of Physical Education in Wroclaw, 2021) Coskunsu, D.K.; Mutlu, E.K.; Ozdincler, A.R.
Introduction. This study investigated the effect of proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF), Kinesio® tape (KT), and PNF combined with KT (PNF + KT) for hamstring flexibility and jumping performance in amateur athletes with hamstring tightness. Methods. overall, 128 amateur athletes were randomly assigned to the PNF (n = 32), KT (n = 32), PNF + KT (n = 32) or control group (n = 32). Flexibility was assessed with active straight leg raise (ASLR) test with a digital goniometer. Performance was evaluated by vertical jump (VJ) and triple hop distance (THd) tests. All measurements were performed by a blinded assessor 3 times: at baseline, immediately after the interventions, and 30 minutes after the interventions. Results. Amateur athletes receiving PNF or KT or PNF + KT demonstrated a greater increase in ASLR and THd tests from baseline to post-intervention scores (p = 0.001, p = 0.002, p = 0.001 for ASLR; p = 0.001 in all groups for THd, respectively) and from baseline to 30 minutes after intervention (p = 0.001 in all groups for ASLR; p = 0.001 in all groups for THd, respectively). Nevertheless, only the PNF + KT group presented a greater increase in VJ test from baseline to post-intervention scores (p = 0.02). Besides, the effect sizes for the PNF + KT group were higher than in the other groups in all parameters. Conclusions. PNF + KT might be more effective in increasing hamstring flexibility and jumping performance in amateur athletes with hamstring tightness than each method alone. © Wroclaw University of Health and Sport Sciences

The Effects of Maternal Omega-3 Fatty Acid Supplementation on Breast Milk Fatty Acid Composition
    (İstanbul Medipol University, 2018) Ay, E.; Büyükuslu, N.; Batırel, S.; İlktaç, H.Y.; Garipağaoğlu, M.
Breast milk is the first source of omega-3 fatty acids (FA) for infants. We hypothesized that maternal omega-3 FAs supplementation affects the FA composition of breast milk. Thirtysix women received 950 mg omega-3 polyunsaturated (PUFA) supplementation per day for 9 months from 22-24 weeks of pregnancy until the 6 months of lactation and 26 women were enrolled as controls. Demographic data and nutritional status were taken by a questionnaire. Breast milk samples were collected at just after birth and 6 months of lactation. Fatty acids were analyzed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). Data was assessed using SPSS 22.0 software. The supplementation increased the level of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) while decreased the level of saturated fatty acids (SFA) in breast milk. The ratio of omega-6/omega-3 FAs was also decreased in the supplemented mothers’ milk. In conclusion the maternal supplementation of omega-3 FAs improved the DHA and EPA levels. © 2018, İstanbul Medipol University. All rights reserved.
