Article Citation - WoS: 22Citation - Scopus: 31Digital Transformation in Project-Based Manufacturing: Developing the Isa-95 Model for Vertical Integration(Elsevier, 2022) Apiliogullari, LutfiThe Smart Factory is the intelligent management of all business operations that aims to produce innovative products in the most efficient and faster way through the cyber-physical system (CPS). CPS integrates the cyber (IT) and the physical world (OT) through the hierarchical layers of ISA-95 model and forms the backbone of Industry 4.0. The CPS plays a crucial role in transforming data from interconnected systems, and it is a pre-requisite for the entire system to be able to interact. The ISA-95 model consists of components that can be used to determine how the interaction between domains vertically within the facility. However, the current ISA-95 Model does not include all the components that need to be integrated in vertical integration of all domains. The product domain is one of them. All IT and OT components need to be represented in the ISA-95 layers to achieve an ideal CPS structure. In this study, all components needed to achieve the ideal CPS structure have been identified in an expanded ISA-95 Model for project-based manufacturers. An extended ISA-95 model is proposed so that each manufacturing industry can use it in the digital transformation process by adding a product domain and connectivity layer to the Model. The Model was tested and confirmed, by conducting a case study which was based on implementing the vertical integration on it. This model helps businesses to develop more effective digital transformation strategies by defining where they should focus on or from where they should start the digital transformation processes.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 3Effect of Pacifier and Pacifier With Dextrose in Reducing Pain During Orogastric Tube Insertion in Newborns: a Randomized Controlled Trial(Springernature, 2024) Akkaya-Gul, Aysenur; Ozyazicioglu, NurcanOBJECTIVE: This study aimed to assess the efficacy of pacifier use, with and without 25% dextrose, in reducing pain during orogastric tube insertion in newborns. STUDY DESIGN: In a randomized controlled trial involving 60 newborns at a public hospital from April to December 2019,participants were divided into three groups: pacifier (n=20), pacifier with 25% dextrose (n=20), and control (n=20). A pacifier, with and without dextrose, was used for the experimental groups, while the control group performed a routine procedure. Neonatal infant pain scale, crying duration, heart rate (HR), and oxygen saturation (SpO2) were evaluated. RESULTS: Results indicated that the control group experienced significantly higher pain levels, elevated HRs, decreased SpO2, and prolonged crying. Conversely, the pacifier with 25% dextrose group showed a notable reduction in crying duration. This international SP simulation study explored nursing students' beliefs toward persons with mental health conditions in the United States (US) and Turkey before and after participating in a mental health standardized patient simulation. Methods: A quasi-experimental study design was used in two settings in two countries. Measures included a socio-demographic survey and the Beliefs toward Mental Illness scale. Results were analyzed using paired sample t-test, independent t-test, and chi-square tests. Results: Students in the US had significantly lessened negative attitudes toward persons with mental health conditions when compared to the Turkey group. This study was conducted using qualitative research and a phenomenological design. The study sample consisted of 11 university students over the age of 18 who agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected online through individual interviews in Türkiye. Colaizzi’s phenomenological analysis method was used in the data analysis. The content analysis determined three main themes and eleven sub-themes. The first theme was the students’ knowledge acquisition about the “current situation of the country.” Under this theme were four sub-themes: economic problems, the immigrant situation, the education and justice system, and the country’s agenda. In the second theme, students shared their opinions about “being a student in the country.” This theme included economic impossibilities, their participation in limited social activities, and housing problems. In the last theme, “future anxiety,” the sub-themes of the students were found to include experiences hopelessness versus hope. Uncertainty caused anxiety, as did going abroad, finding a job, and improving themselves. It was determined that the participants were worried about the current situation in the countries they lived in during this period due to economic problems; while some were hopeful about the future, some were hopeless and would go abroad. This study might contribute to the literature on determining the future-oriented perceptions, possible stressors and hope levels of Generation Z university students in Türkiye. Additionally, intervention programs can be developed for the management these stressors to protect the mental health of Generation Z university students. Fruit Extract in the Diabetic Rats(Wiley, 2022) Gulmez, Gizem; Sen, Ali; Sekerler, Turgut; Algul, Fatma Kader; Cilingir-Kaya, Ozlem Tugce; Sener, AzizeThe prothrombotic and inflammatory state plays a significant role in the occurrence of cardiovascular complications in type 2 diabetes mellitus. In this study, the antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antiplatelet potentials of the extracts obtained from Ribes rubrum were investigated. The antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant activities of the ethanol and water extracts of R. rubrum were evaluated by in vitro methods. The total phenolic and flavonoid contents were also determined. The experimental diabetes model in rats was induced with streptozotocin (STZ). After hyperglycemia occurred, the ethanol extracts of R. rubrum (RRE, at 100 mg/kg and 500 mg/kg doses) were administered to the treatment groups for 14 days. Blood glucose, lipid profile, plasma, and pancreas tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha) levels were determined and compared at the end of the experiments. P-selectin levels and mitochondrial membrane polarization (MMP) of platelets were also measured. In vitro study, the RRE showed potent anti-inflammatory activity. Administration of RRE (at 100 mg/kg doses) to diabetic rats lowered blood glucose level insignificantly. The results showed that there was an increment in levels of TNF-alpha in plasma and pancreas tissue of the diabetic group compared to the control group. R. rubrum extract regulated and normalized their levels in plasma and pancreatic tissue. RRE at both doses significantly decreased platelet P-selectin levels and prevented STZ-induced loss of MMP in platelets. The results of current research indicate that RRE extract has potent anti-platelet and anti-inflammatory effects and may be beneficial in preventing diabetic complications. Practical applications Hyperglycemia causes dyslipidemia, advanced oxidative stress, platelet activation, and inflammation in diabetes mellitus. Plants with various medicinal properties are of worldwide interest for the treatment of diseases due to their biological activities. In this study, the antidiabetic, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant effects of extracts of Ribes rubrum (%100 ethanol, 50% ethanol, water) were evaluated by in vitro and in vivo methods. The diabetes model was induced with streptozotocin (STZ). The rats were divided into control, diabetic control, R. rubrum-100 mg/kg, and R. rubrum-500 mg/kg doses groups. Blood glucose levels, tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-alpha), platelet P-selectin levels, mitochondrial membrane polarization of platelets were examined. The present study has shown that R. rubrum has anti-inflammatory and antiplatelet activity. To determine the possible effects, rats were divided into four groups as control, control + whey, methotrexate (20 mg/kg, i.p.) and methotrexate + whey. Whey protein concentrate (2 g/kg, oral gavage) was administered for 10 days. Cytokine levels were measured and protein electrophoresis was carried out in serum samples. Lipid peroxidation, nitric oxide and glutathione level, and superoxide dismutase and glutathione S transferase activities were determined in lung samples. Inhibition of SARS CoV-2-targeted lung furin activity and SARS CoV-2 spike protein-angiotensin converting enzyme binding with whey protein concentrate were also measured in each group. In conclusion, whey protein concentrate improved methotrexate-induced lung damage and inhibited lung furin activity targeting SARS-CoV-2 S1/S2 site cleavage and SARS CoV-2 spike protein-angiotensin converting enzyme binding. Whey proteins are potential protective candidates that inhibit SARS CoV-2-related interactions, even in methotrexate-induced lung injury. Practical applications Whey proteins have anticarcinogenic, antihypertensive, antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, and immunomodulating properties due to the protein, bioactive peptide, and essential amino acid content. Methotrexate is a folate antagonist and inhibits cell proliferation and purine synthesis. The combined use of whey protein concentrate and methotrexate may be an alternative in the development of new strategies to the treatment approaches against COVID-19. Person-Centred Climate Questionnaire - staff version is an interculturally used tool to evaluate person-centredness in clinical settings. This study aimed to examine the psychometrics of the tool in the Turkish language.MethodsThis was a methodological study involving a sample of 140 nurses. One of the researchers collected data using the Turkish version of the questionnaire-staff version in a private hospital in Istanbul. After performing the language validity steps, the researchers analysed the content validity ratios of the items and the questionnaire's content validity index, and they performed exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis to validate the construct. The internal consistency of the subdimensions and the questionnaire was determined utilising a Cronbach's Alpha test.ResultsThe content validity ratios of the items ranged from 0.84 to 1, and the correlation coefficients ranged from 0.50 to 0.69. The three-factor structure accounted for 70.40% of the total variance. The items' standardised factor loads were between 0.501 and 1.140. The Cronbach's alpha consistency value was 0.90.ConclusionThe staff version of the questionnaire is an adequately valid and reliable instrument in the Turkish language.Article Design and Synthesis of Thiosemicarbazides and 1,2,4-Triazoles Derived From Ibuprofen as Potential Metap (Type II) Inhibitors(Elsevier Ireland Ltd, 2025) Yilmaz, Ozgur; Biliz, Yagmur; Ayan, Sumeyra; Cevik, Ozge; Karahasanoglu, Mufide; Cotuker, Reyhan; Kucukguzel, S. GunizIn the present study, a range of novel thiosemicarbazides 4a-i and 1,2,4-triazoles 5a-i derived from ibuprofen, were synthesized. Structural elucidation of these synthesized compounds was performed utilizing a variety of spectroscopic methods, including FTIR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR and HR-MS. The synthesized compounds were tested for cytotoxicity in five different cancer cell lines (cervical cancer (HeLa), human breast cancer (MCF-7), human gastric adenocarcinoma (MKN-45), human metastatic prostate cancer (PC3) and human glioblastoma (U87)). The compounds were compared with healthy cells (NIH-3T3) and the most effective compounds were determined by means of the selectivity index. Thiosemicarbazides derived form ibuprofen 4i and 4d showed anticancer activity, while 1,2,4-triazoles derived form ibuprofen 5b, 5c, 5d, 5e, 5h, 5g showed anticancer activity in HeLa, MCF-7, MKN-45, PC3 and U87 cells. To test the stability of the protein-drug complexes all 18 compounds 4a-i and 5a-i were docked into the active site of the MetAP2 enzyme In general, computational inhibition constants values were correlated with the experimental values. The dynamic behavior of MetAP2-inhibitor complexes was analyzed using all atoms Molecular Dynamic (MD) simulations for 200 ns duration. MD revealed that the drugs bind in the active center of MetAP2 with stable RMSD and RMSF. In conclusion, in-silico results and in-vitro studies suggests that thiosemicarbazides and 1,2,4-triazoles derived from ibuprofen may be novel anticancer drug candidates for treating cervical, breast, prostate, gastric and glioblastoma. Compounds provided induction of apoptotic proteins in the cell by inhibiting MetAP2 enzyme. Furthermore, the potential antioxidant activities of the compounds were evaluated using the 2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity assay. Background Because 'change' is an inevitable fact of today's health care environments, developing change management competencies at all levels is a must to survive and compete for the organisations and professionals in the health care systems. Methods A descriptive qualitative approach was used. The sample consisted of 18 nurses reached by using snowball sampling. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using the Colaizzi method in the NVivo12 program. Results The results of the study were collected under three main themes: 'general approaches and initial responses to change', 'factors affecting attitudes toward change' and 'strategic mistakes made by managers during the change process'. Conclusion The study showed that nurses show different reactions to change. Their attitudes towards change could be affected positively and negatively by the relevant factors. Nurses thought that managers were making strategic mistakes during the change process. Implications for nursing management Recognizing the approaches of nurses and managers towards change and increasing awareness of the mistakes during the change process may contribute to the achievement of the change processes in health care settings.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1The Effects of Two Different Concurrent Training Programs on Specific Performance, Physiological and Biochemical Parameters in Soccer Players(SAGE Publications Inc., 2025) Arslan, B.; Pinar, S.; Ciloglu, F.The study examined the effects of two concurrent training models, one being an eight-week High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) and the other, High-Intensity Functional Training (HIFT) both with additional strength training (S), on physiological parameters (blood lactate concentration and heart rate), athlete's performance (maximal strength, explosive power, aerobic endurance, 20 m sprint), and biochemical outputs. The study involved a total of 21 young males playing with amateur soccer licenses for at least 2 years divided into three groups. One group received S + HIIT training, second group received S + HIFT training and the control group continued their soccer-specific training. Both the experimental and the control groups underwent pre- and post-tests and while only the experimental groups underwent an eight-week training program. Pre- and post-tests of the all the participants included measurements of body composition, adaptation studies, trial measurements, biochemical blood, aerobic endurance measurements, sprint tests, and strength measurements. The Mixed Design ANOVA analysis was utilized to examine the performance, physiological, and biochemical data of the participants before and after the experiment. Concurrent training models were effective in increasing athletic performance (VO2max, CMJ, 1RM bench press and Yo-Yo test) and physiological outcomes during recovery (HR, blood lactate, Borg Scale) compared to the control group with traditional training. There was no significant difference between the biochemical changes in the S + HIIT, S + HIFT and control groups during the trial period. In summary, both concurrent training (CT) models had positive effects on sports performance and physiological outcomes, but not on biochemical outcomes. © The Author(s) 2024.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2Twenty-Year Course of Antifungal Resistance in Candida Albicans in Türkiye: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis(MDPI, 2025) Kilbas, Imdat; Kahraman Kilbas, Elmas Pinar; Horhat, Florin George; Ciftci, Ihsan HakkiThis study aimed to systematically evaluate the resistance rates of Candida albicans to various antifungals based on studies conducted in Turkiye and published between 2005 and 2025 and to analyze the factors contributing to resistance. A systematic literature search was conducted using various keywords in electronic databases (PubMed, Embase, Web of Science, EBSCO, Scopus, Turk Medline and Google Scholar). A total of 42 studies were included in the meta-analysis according to the determined criteria. The quality of the studies was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute checklist, and the analyses were performed using appropriate statistical software. The highest resistance rates for fluconazole, itraconazole, and voriconazole were observed in the Aegean and Marmara regions. In the analyses performed with the random-effects model, heterogeneity was found to be high for itraconazole, fluconazole, posaconazole, voriconazole, and caspofungin, and the strongest explanatory variable of this heterogeneity was the geographical region variable. In our study, we determined that antifungal resistance in C. albicans strains in Turkiye is generally low; however, an increasing trend has been observed over the years, especially in amphotericin B resistance. Although the low resistance rates to major antifungal agents such as fluconazole, voriconazole and echinocandins are promising, regional differences and methodological heterogeneity necessitate the development of treatment strategies based on local data.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 5Paricalcitol Protects Against Hydrogen Peroxide-Induced Injury in Endothelial Cells Through Suppression of Apoptosis(Frontiers Media Sa, 2023) Koksal, Muhammet Murat; Sekerler, Turgut; Cevik, Ozge; Sener, AzizeThe vascular endothelium is one of the main targets of oxidative stress which plays an important role in the pathophysiology of vascular damage. Recent studies show that vitamin D can positively regulate endothelial functions in various chronic diseases and in cases of increased oxidative stress. In our study, we investigated the restorative and protective potentials of paricalcitol which is frequently used in patients with chronic renal failure, a vitamin D analogue, in human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVEC) before and after H2O2-induced oxidative stress. Paricalcitol treatment after the oxidative stress induced by H2O2 increased cell viability in endothelial cells depending on the dose that was used. While paricalcitol (500 nM) decreased caspase-3 activity and mitochondrial membrane potential loss, it increased nitric oxide (NO) production and reduced glutathione (GSH) levels. Paricalcitol treatment before oxidative stress increased cell viability. It increased NO production and mitochondrial membrane potential while significantly reducing caspase-3 activity. While paricalcitol caused a significant inhibition of protein disulfide isomerase (PDI) reductase activity in healthy endothelial cells, it did not cause a significant change on the PDI reductase activity under oxidative stress conditions. Present study showed that paricalcitol has restorative and protective effects on endothelial cells against oxidative injury, but these effects occur at high concentrations of paricalcitol.Article Citation - WoS: 26Citation - Scopus: 38An Integrative Approach To Relationship Marketing, Customer Value, and Customer Outcomes in the Retail Banking Industry: a Customer-Based Perspective From Turkey(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2019) Sayil, Emine Mediha; Akyol, Ayse; Simsek, Gulhayat GolbasiGiven how important it is to provide superior value to customers and to maintain customer loyalty for a sustainable competitive advantage, the aim of this paper is to examine the relationships among relationship marketing components of - trust, competency, commitment, communication, and conflict handling, - relationship investment, relationship quality, perceived customer value, satisfaction and loyalty in an integrated framework in the Turkish retail banking industry. Unlike previous studies, this research extends the literature by analysing affective as well as cognitive dimensions in the same model with a holistic view by simultaneously examining the direct and indirect effects of the related concepts. The distinctive nature of this study is its evaluation of customer satisfaction and loyalty from the perspective of actual consumers. The research model was tested using data collected from 685 retail banking customers by applying structural equation modelling. The findings show that relationship marketing induces loyalty through relationship quality, customer value, and satisfaction, which are mainly provided by trust, communication, and relationship investment. Furthermore, relationship investment and relationship quality are the most important factors in the development of customer value, satisfaction, and loyalty. The emotional value dimension, which captures the affective aspects of perceived value, has the strongest effect on both satisfaction and loyalty.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 3Player Selection in Football by Integrated Swara-Vikor Methods Under Fuzzy Environment(Cell Press, 2024) Buyukselcuk, Elif Caloglu; Badem, ErayThis study aims to provide an objective evaluation and selection of the most suitable players for the Turkish National Football Team by using multi-criteria decision-making methods, specifically Stepwise Weight Assessment Ratio Analysis (SWARA) and VIsekriterijumsko KOmpromisno Rangiranje (VIKOR) based on neutrosophic numbers. In the initial step of the study, the important criteria for player selection were determined, and a total of 21 and 26 criteria were identified for goalkeeper and players, respectively. Agility, reflexes and jumping ability are very important for goalkeeper whereas marking, passing ability, agility, dribbling, and footwork are the most important criteria for players. The performances of the players were evaluated due to these criteria and finally the Turkish National Football Team was established scientifically because of the best player selection. This decision-making process will be more beneficial in making more informed and effective decisions in the national team's player selection process. The success of the team can be improved by providing an objective and systematic player selection approach.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 5Mapping the Vascular and Muscular Topography of the Glabellar Region: Implication for Improving Safety and Efficacy of the Glabellar Injections(Springer, 2024) Ismailoglu, Abdul Veli; Ismailoglu, Pelin; Aktekin, MustafaBackground Botulinum neurotoxin (BoNT) and filler injections into the highly vascularized glabellar region for aesthetical purposes are extremely common. Injections into the glabellar region without precise anatomical knowledge of its vascular and muscular topography may pose the risk of severe complications.Objectives We aimed to improve the safety and efficacy of the glabellar injections by mapping the regional muscles and vasculature in relation to the medial canthus and the defined reference lines.Methods Meticulous dissection was performed to reveal glabellar region muscles and arteries under surgical microscope, in 16 hemifaces of whom arteries are injected with red-dyed latex. Location of the angular artery (AA) along with its branches was noted in relation to glabellar muscles.Results The AA was always located superficial to the levator labii superioris alaeque nasi muscle (LLSAN) and then coursed toward the medial canthus to anastomose with the supratrochlear artery deep to the origin of the depressor supercilii (DS). The AA gave subcutaneously located central and paracentral branches coursing close to the mid-face line in 14 out of 16 hemifaces. Variable muscular connections were also present between the LLSAN, the DS and the procerus (P) muscles. No arteries were detected at the base of the medial eyebrow to which the DS, the P, and the frontalis (F) inserted.Conclusions This study provides a detailed map of muscular and vascular anatomy of the glabellar region to facilitate safe and efficient filler and BoNT injections without complications.No Level Assigned This journal requires that authors assign a level of evidence to each submission to which Evidence-Based Medicine rankings are applicable. This study aimed to investigate the effects of collagen peptides and Saccharomyces boulardii on acetic acid (AA)-induced colitis. Thirty-six male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into the following four groups: normal control (NC), colitis control (CC), collagen peptide (CP; 0.6 g/kg/day), and S. boulardii (SB; 250 mg/day). Colitis was induced by an intrarectal administration of AA in all groups except NC, and treatments were administered daily for 7 days. The therapeutic effects were evaluated by assessing the disease activity index (DAI), colon mass index, macroscopic and microscopic tissue damage, histopathological changes, zonula occludens (ZO)-1 protein expression, and myeloperoxidase (MPO) activity. The results showed that CP and SB treatments substantially alleviated DAI scores (p < 0.05) and reduced the colon mass index. Colon macroscopic and microscopic damages improved compared to the CC group (p < 0.01). Histologically, both treatments reduced inflammatory cell infiltration, crypt damage, and ulceration, with CP showing a slightly more pronounced effect. Immunohistochemical analysis revealed significant restoration of ZO-1 protein expression in the treated groups, indicating improvement in intestinal barrier integrity (p < 0.01). Furthermore, MPO activity was reduced in both CP and SB groups, significantly in the SB group (p < 0.01). These findings are consistent with previous studies that highlight the anti-inflammatory and barrier-enhancing effects of collagen peptides and probiotics in UC models.Article Citation - WoS: 4Is Shoulder Geometry Important for Rotator Cuff Tears?(Wiley, 2021) Yilmazturk, Kerem; Birinci, Murat; Kuyucu, Ersin; Bulbul, Ahmet MuratPurpose This study is aiming to evaluate some specific anatomic shoulder parameters such as the lateral acromial angle (LAA), acromial index (AI), coracohumeral distance (CHD) and critical shoulder angle (CSA) in rotator cuff tears. Methods A total of 100 cases consisting of 50 patients with rotator cuff tears and 50 patients without rotator cuff tears, who underwent shoulder MRI (mangnetic resonance imaging) examination in Istanbul Medipol University Orthopedics and Traumatology Department, participated in this study. In this retrospective study, CCA, LAA, AI and CSA were evaluated in MRI in order to shed light on the theories of rotator cuff tears. Results There was no significant difference (P > .05) in acromial index and coracohumeral distance in the patient group. Lateral acromial angle and critical shoulder angle were significantly different in the patient group compared to the control group (P < .05). There was a weak negative correlation between CSA and CHD. Conclusion In our study, we found that patients with smaller LAA and higher CSA values in MRI images are prone to have rotator cuff tears. Further studies are needed in order to evaluate whether this association has predictive value.
