It reduces the quality of life of both the patient and their relatives. In addition to its primary effects, AD causes metabolic defects and tissues are damaged due to these effects. Oxidative stress damages cells by disrupting antioxidant/oxidant balance in many tissues, especially due to AD. In individuals with AD and the elderly, lens tissue is damaged due to oxidative stress and may cause vision loss. Therefore, it is very important to investigate herbal products that both prevent/cure AD and reduce AD-related oxidative stress, as they may have fewer side effects. In this study, the protective effects of parsley (Petroselinum crispum) extract on lens tissues of an experimental AD model induced by scopolamine were examined and evaluated through biochemical parameters. The result of biochemical experiments and principal component analysis, was observed that parsley extract had a therapeutic effect by reducing oxidative stress in lens tissues of experimentally induced AD rats. The rats were divided into; control, scopolamine (1 mg/kg, i.p.), galantamine (1.5 mg/kg, i.p.) and PC extract (2 g/kg, p.o.)-treated scopolamine groups. On day 14, the novel object recognition test (NORT) and Morris water maze test (MWMT) were performed and then the rats were sacrificed. Scopolamine-induced cognitive impairments observed in the NORT and MWMT, significantly improved with PC extract and galantamine treatments. Scopolamine reduced M, receptor expression, Bcl-2/Bax ratio, and glutathione levels in the hippocampus and frontal cortex, while malondialdehyde levels, caspase-3/9 expressions, and acetylcholinesterase (AChE) activity were found to be increased. On the other band, PC and galantamine treatments reversed these changes. In conclusion, PC extract has shown an ameliorative effect on the spatial and recognition memory, M-1 receptor expression, apoptosis, oxidative stress, and increased AChE activity. Thus, it was concluded that PC could prevent AD-like conditions and can be used as a functional food. However, since animal models do not completely mimic those of humans, based on the data obtained in this study, the importance of PC on human AD should be demonstrated in future studies. The latter raises an urgent need to translate research findings in the basic brain and behavioral sciences into anti-AD drugs and disease-modifying therapies. Origanum onites (L.), also called Turkish oregano, is a perennial and herbaceous plant species grown for centuries for medicinal, cosmetic and culinary purposes. This is the first study to investigate the putative neuroprotective and pro-cognitive activities of O. onites essential oil (OOEO) against scopolamine-induced amnesia of AD-type in Wistar albino rats. The results of behavioral tests revealed that OOEO administration was able to significantly alleviate learning and memory impairments induced by scopolamine in vivo. The observed effects could be attributed to inhibition of acetylcholinesterase activity, attenuation of oxidative stress and prevention of neuronal apoptosis in the hippocampus and frontal cortex of AD rats. Modulation of pro-inflammatory enzymes, including cyclooxygenase-2, inducible nitric oxide synthase and myeloperoxidase, might further contribute to the neuroprotective properties of OEOO, as predicted by our in silico models. This study aimed to determine the antioxidant effects of Panax ginseng (PxG) extract against MTX-induced liver, lung, ileum and kidney damage. Twenty-four Sprague Dawley male rats (weight 250-300 g) were used in the study. The animals were randomly separated into three groups: a) Control, b) MTX-treated (MTX) and c) MTX+PxG-treated (MTX+PxG) groups. MTX was administered intraperitoneally at 20 mg/kg, as a single dose to MTX and MTX+PxG groups. PxG was administered orally at 100 mg/kg to the MTX+PxG group for five days. Saline was given to the control and MTX groups for 5 days. At the end of the experiment, liver, lung, ileum, and kidney samples were obtained. Malondialdehyde (MDA) and glutathione (GSH) levels, superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione-S-transferase (GST) and tissue factor (TF) activities were determined in all tissues. In addition, histological examinations were done through light microscopy. GraphPad Prism 5v. was used for statistics, and p<0.05 were considered significant. Administration of MTX caused severe injury in tissues. Findings showed that MDA level, SOD, and GST activities were significantly normalized in the MTX+PxG group compared to the control group. A significant reduction in GSH level observed in the MTX group was reversed with PxG administration In addition, TF activity and total protein levels were found to be impaired in the MTX group, but TF activity was significantly improved in liver and lung tissues and total protein level was significantly reversed in lung and ileum in MTX+PxG group. The results of histological examinations showed that MTX-induced damage was ameliorated with the PxG administration. This study aimed to examine the impacts of BPA on serum oxidative stress in rats and to detect the antioxidant feature of Panax ginseng (PxG) in reducing BPA-induced oxidative stress. Materials and Methods: Wistar Albino rats (250-300 g) were divided into control, control + PxG, BPA, and BPA + PxG groups. 50 mg/kg BPA and 100 mg/g PxG were given for six weeks. Serum total antioxidant and oxidant status, lipid peroxidation, and glutathione levels were determined. Results: BPA administration increased total oxidant status and lipid peroxidation, while PxG administration to the BPA group decreased these parameters. PxG also increased total antioxidant status and glutathione levels compared to the BPA group. However, the significant side effects of MTX limits its use. In this study, we aim to assess the hepatoprotective properties of Momordica charantia (MC) against MTX-induced liver damaged in rats.MATERIALS AND METHODS: Following one dose of MTX (20 mg/kg), the rats were given either distilled water or MC extract (300 mg/kg, po) for 5 days. After the dissection of the rats, the liver was removed to analyse tumour necrosis factor -a (TNF-a), interleukin-113 (IL-113), transforming growth factor 13 (TGF-13) and 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxy-guanosine (8-OhdG) levels and superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and caspase-3 activities. The tissues were also examined histopathologically.RESULTS: The hepatic TNF-a, IL-113, TGF-13, 8-OhdG levels, and Caspase-3 activity in the MTX group were found to be significantly increased compared to the control group. However, MC extract was able to significantly decrease TNF-a, TGF-13, 8-OhdG levels, and Caspase-3 activity. Also, both the SOD and CAT activity of the MTX group decreased compared to the control group. Although only the SOD levels elevated significantly with MC treatment, the SOD and CAT activities of the MC treated group were similar to the control group. Material and methods: Bile duct ligation (BDL) method was used to induce liver injury in rats. The rats were divided into the three groups each consisting of 8 rats; Sham-operated control (C), bile duct ligated + saline treated (BDL), and BDL + PC treated groups. PC extract was given at a dose of 2 g/kg orally for 28 days. Aspartate amino transferase (AST), alanin amino transferase (ALT), and bilirubin levels were analyzed in sera. In order to determine free radicals in liver injury, luminol and lucigenin chemiluminescence tests used. Oxidative stress was evaluated through superoxide dismutase, glutathione, malondialdehyde, Na+/K+-ATPase and 8-hydroxy guanosine levels. Furthermore, inflammation marker myeloperoxidase, apoptosis marker caspase-3, and fibrosis markers TGF- beta and hydoxyproline were investigated. The liver tissues were also examined for histological evaluations.Results: While PC treatment decreased AST and ALT levels which increased with BDL, oxidant damage parameters also decreased with this treatment.
