Safe Drug Administration in Pediatric Nursing Education: A Quasi- Experimental Design Study
(Atatürk Univ, 2023) Kan Onturk, Zehra; Sanci, Yagmur
Objective: This study was carried out to determine the correlation between the performance of students who received simulation-based pediatric nursing education and their self-confidence regarding safe drug administrations during simulation. Methods: The study was conducted in pretest and posttest quasi-experimental design and carried out on a sample group (n = 39) based on criteria established at the Nursing Department of a foundation university. Students were subjected to a simulation of "Drug Management in Children" within the scope of the pediatric nursing course. The researchers collected data through a checklist, a self-confidence scale, and tests (pretest and posttest) used in the simulation application on "Drug Management in Children." Results: The students obtained a mean score of 129.00 +/- 14.36 on the self-confidence scale. The posttest scores of the students were statistically significantly higher than the pretest scores (P = .011). The performance mean score of the students from the simulation checklist for safe drug administrations was 36.28 +/- 6.65. There was no statistically significant correlation between the scores from the self-confidence scale, the pretest, the posttest, and the checklist scores (P > .05). Conclusion: This study underlines the importance of having a suitable level of self-confidence for students' educational gains and also indicated that there was no correlation between self-confidence and performance.

Çocukluk Dönemine Hizmet Veren Öğretmenlerin İlk Yardım Öz Yeterliklerinin Değerlendirilmesi
(2024) Sancı, Yagmur; Kablan, Duygu; Caner, Melisa; Citil, Dilek

The Effect of a Video-Based Covid-19 Paediatric Patient Education on State Anxiety in Children With Suspected Covid-19 Admitted To Hospital
(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2023) Sanci, Yagmur; Celik, Serap; Yildiz, Suzan
Background: Anxiety causes the long-term psychological impacts on children during the pandemic. Objective: The aim of this study is to reduce anxiety in paediatric patients and increase their adherence to treatment through a video-based COVID-19 paediatric patient education. Methods: This quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest single group was carried out in a research hospital's COVID-19 Paediatric Emergency Area in Turkey between May and August 2020. The sample consisted of 128 children aged between 4 and 12 years. Results: In the study, it was found that 50.8% of the children who came to the COVID-19 Paediatric Emergency Area due to suspicion of COVID-19 were boys and their mean age was 8.54 & PLUSMN; 2.62. 21.1% of the children were hospitalised before and 73.4% were afraid of the hospital. State stress scores of the participants before the patient education were higher in those, who didn't attend school between ages of 4-10, than those who went to school. State stress mean scores of the children from all age groups decreased significantly after the education. Conclusions: The video-based paediatric patient education decreases the children's hospital-related anxiety during the pandemic and increased their adherence to treatment.
