Conference Object Safe Drug Administration in Pediatric Nursing Education: A Quasi- Experimental Design Study(Atatürk Univ, 2023) Kan Onturk, Zehra; Sanci, YagmurObjective: This study was carried out to determine the correlation between the performance of students who received simulation-based pediatric nursing education and their self-confidence regarding safe drug administrations during simulation. Methods: The study was conducted in pretest and posttest quasi-experimental design and carried out on a sample group (n = 39) based on criteria established at the Nursing Department of a foundation university. Students were subjected to a simulation of "Drug Management in Children" within the scope of the pediatric nursing course. The researchers collected data through a checklist, a self-confidence scale, and tests (pretest and posttest) used in the simulation application on "Drug Management in Children." Results: The students obtained a mean score of 129.00 +/- 14.36 on the self-confidence scale. The posttest scores of the students were statistically significantly higher than the pretest scores (P = .011). The performance mean score of the students from the simulation checklist for safe drug administrations was 36.28 +/- 6.65. There was no statistically significant correlation between the scores from the self-confidence scale, the pretest, the posttest, and the checklist scores (P > .05). Conclusion: This study underlines the importance of having a suitable level of self-confidence for students' educational gains and also indicated that there was no correlation between self-confidence and performance. Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2The Effect of a Video-Based Covid-19 Paediatric Patient Education on State Anxiety in Children With Suspected Covid-19 Admitted To Hospital(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2023) Sanci, Yagmur; Celik, Serap; Yildiz, SuzanBackground: Anxiety causes the long-term psychological impacts on children during the pandemic. Objective: The aim of this study is to reduce anxiety in paediatric patients and increase their adherence to treatment through a video-based COVID-19 paediatric patient education. Methods: This quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest single group was carried out in a research hospital's COVID-19 Paediatric Emergency Area in Turkey between May and August 2020. The sample consisted of 128 children aged between 4 and 12 years. Results: In the study, it was found that 50.8% of the children who came to the COVID-19 Paediatric Emergency Area due to suspicion of COVID-19 were boys and their mean age was 8.54 & PLUSMN; 2.62. 21.1% of the children were hospitalised before and 73.4% were afraid of the hospital. State stress scores of the participants before the patient education were higher in those, who didn't attend school between ages of 4-10, than those who went to school. State stress mean scores of the children from all age groups decreased significantly after the education. Conclusions: The video-based paediatric patient education decreases the children's hospital-related anxiety during the pandemic and increased their adherence to treatment.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 7Effect of Peppermint-Lemon Aromatherapy on Nausea-Vomiting and Quality of Life in Pediatric Patients With Leukemia: a Randomized Controlled Trial(Elsevier Science inc, 2023) Sanci, Yagmur; Yildiz, Suzan; Aycicek, Ali; Mohur, NaciyeBackground: Nausea and vomiting, frequently induced by chemotherapy, can delay treatment protocols and the healing process. Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine how aromatherapy inhalation with peppermint and lemon using a diffuser affects nausea-vomiting management and quality of life in 2-12-year-old children undergoing chemotherapy. Design and methods: The study utilized a pretest-posttest control group experimental design with randomized groups. A total of 90 children who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study. The experimental group received Mentha Piperita and Citrus Lemon essential oils through a diffuser, while the placebo group received water through a diffuser. The control group did not receive any intervention. Results: Pulse and respiratory rates of children treated with aromatherapy were found to be significantly lower than the other groups. After aromatherapy application, quality of life of the children in the experimental group was significantly higher than the other groups. The change in the Index of Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching scores of the experimental group on the 4th chemotherapy cycle compared to the 1st chemotherapy cycle was significantly higher than the change in the other groups. Conclusions: Consequently, it was determined that inhalation aromatherapy with peppermint-lemon was effective in the management of chemotherapy-induced nausea-vomiting symptoms and quality of life compared to the placebo and control groups. Practice implications: Inhalation aromatherapy with mint-lemon can be used as an alternative method to improve the quality of life in children with leukemia who suffer from chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. Simulation-based training is a promising method to strengthen knowledge and preparedness. Methods: This quasi-experimental pretest-posttest study was conducted with 20 nurses working in a pediatric emergency unit of a state hospital between March and April 2024. Data were collected using a socio-demographic form and the "Scale for Determining the Knowledge Level of Nurses and Midwives in Diagnosing the Symptoms and Risks of Child Abuse and Neglect." Nurses participated in simulation-based training with a structured scenario, followed by debriefing and posttest. Results: Knowledge scores significantly increased after training, particularly in recognizing physical and behavioral symptoms of abuse. However, improvements were limited in identifying children at higher risk of neglect and abuse. Conclusion: Simulation-based training enhances nurses' knowledge of child abuse recognition and should be integrated into nursing education and in-service programs to improve clinical preparedness.
