    Comprehensive Proteomic and Metabolomic Analysis of Novel Substituted Fluoroquinolone Derivatives in Escherichia Coli Isolates

    Antimicrobial resistance is one of the most important global problems, and new antibiotic requirements have been emerging as a key point in this issue. In the present work, we focused on the efficiency of two novel promising fluoroquinolone derivatives on resistant Escherichia coli isolates at the molecular level. Their mode of action and adaptation process were evaluated by using proteomics and metabolomics analysis. Proteomics analysis showed that two compounds have an effect mainly on the ribosomal process and energy metabolism. Moreover, we observed compounds that affect various important antimicrobial targets, such as ribosomal subunits, phosphotransacetylase, and chaperone proteins. In metabolomics analysis, we found that compounds altered bacterial metabolism directly. Pathway analysis showed that cofactor biosynthesis and energy metabolism were affected mainly by undertreated groups. Our experiments demonstrated that novel fluoroquinolone derivatives have promising results at the molecular level and results will contribute to further studies. © 2026 John Wiley & Sons Ltd.

    Ludwig's Angina in a 6-Year Child: Case Report

    Ludwig's angina is a rare but potentially fatal cellulitis that affects the submandibular, sublingual, and submental spaces, typically triggered by dental infections. This case report details a severe presentation of Ludwig's angina in a 6-year-old girl who presented with submandibular swelling, fever, voice alterations, and respiratory distress. Diagnosis was based on clinical evaluation, supported by CT imaging, revealing significant airway narrowing and lymphadenopathy. The patient was promptly intubated to secure the airway, followed by emergency surgical drainage and intravenous antibiotics. Postoperative care included sedation, ongoing monitoring in the PICU, and close follow-up by multiple specialties. After a 10-day hospitalization, the patient showed significant recovery with no complications. The case underscores the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in preventing severe complications such as airway obstruction, sepsis, and mediastinal spread. It highlights the critical role of interdisciplinary collaboration, including pediatric infectious disease specialists, surgeons, and anesthesiologists, in managing this life-threatening condition effectively.

    Post-Covid Neutropenia in an Infant With Thalassemia Minor: Case Report

    This case of an 11-month-old female who developed severe neutropenia following COVID-19 infection underscores the need for heightened vigilance and monitoring of hematological parameters in infants post-COVID-19. The exact mechanism of COVID-19-induced neutropenia is not fully understood, but it may involve cytokine-induced suppression of hematopoiesis and bone marrow repression due to the inflammatory response. Given the potential for serious clinical implications, including increased susceptibility to infections, it is crucial to effectively identify and manage neutropenia in this vulnerable population. Further research is necessary to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and optimize treatment strategies for COVID-19-related hematological complications in infants.

    A Guide To Facilitate the Creation of a Femoral Tunnel for Arthroscopic Ligamentum Teres Reconstruction: a Three-Dimensional Computed Tomography Study

    The ideal femoral tunnel passing through the centre of the femoral neck targeted to the footprint of the ligamentum teres (LT) is established during the LT reconstruction surgery with the free-hand technique. We aimed to quantitatively determine the entry site and define the angular orientation of the ideal femoral tunnel with its relevance to the femoral valgus angle (FVA) and the femoral anteversion angle (FAA) to facilitate the creation of an ideal femoral tunnel during the LT reconstruction surgery. A total of 60 randomly selected CT images were obtained to reconstruct three-dimensional femur models. A virtual reamer representing the ideal femoral tunnel was placed in the femur models. The femur length, FVA, FAA, the femoral tunnel anterior angle, the femoral tunnel superior angle and the skin- and bony-entry sites were measured. The femoral tunnel angular orientation was strongly correlated with the FVA and the FAA. Mathematical formulas were defined by which entry site of the reamer and the anterior and superior angulation of the femoral tunnel could be estimated before the surgery. The mean skin-entry site was 67.3 mm distal and 0.1 mm anterior to the centre of the greater trochanter's superior border. The angular orientation of the femoral tunnel using FVA and FAA can be easily estimated using mathematical formulas before LT reconstruction surgery. The entry site and angular orientation of the femoral tunnel described in this study can be used to reduce dependency on the usage of fluoroscopy and the workload on the surgeon during the LT reconstruction surgery.

    Tinea Capitis (favus) in a 8-Year Child: Case Report

    Key Clinical MessageIn examining any scalp itch or skin lesions, especially in children with long hair, fungal lesions under the hair may not be diagnosed in a timely manner. Additionally, fungal infection of the scalp, known as tinea capitis, is considered a chronic condition and if left untreated, it can lead to alopecia (hair loss) and permanent scarring.AbstractTinea capitis (TC) is a common cutaneous fungal infection in childhood. In this report, we describe the case of an 8-year-old child presenting with erythematous scalp lesions accompanied by hair loss. Upon examination, palpation revealed a swollen and tender left parotid gland. Notably, the frontal region of the scalp exhibited erythematous lesions and scaly red plaques resembling yellowish paste-like dough. Subsequent clinical evaluation and culture analysis confirmed the diagnosis of TC. The patient received treatment with Terbinafine 125 mg for a duration of 8 weeks. Follow-up examinations conducted after 3 months showed no signs of recurrence. Accurate diagnosis and timely treatment, along with adherence to medication regimens, are crucial in cases of TC, and differential diagnoses should be considered. Treatment should commence promptly upon diagnosis to prevent complications such as scalp baldness and transmission to others. This case report underscores the significance of establishing a precise diagnosis and effective treatment for this dermatophytosis to mitigate the risk of recurrences or therapeutic shortcomings, particularly in infants.

    The Unlikely Combination: Anderson-Fabry Disease and Congenital Dyserythropoietic Anemia Type Ii in a Pediatric Patient

    Anderson- Fabry disease (AFD) is a rare condition, characterized by a lysosomal storage disorder affecting lipid storage. It manifests in two forms: classic (early- onset) and nonclassic (late- onset). Conversely, congenital dyserythropoietic anemia (CDA) is a rare blood disorder caused by ineffective erythropoiesis, which results in the production of abnormal erythroblasts during the maturation of red blood cells, with CDA type II being the most frequent type. Both disorders have well- understood pathophysiologies, yet they are genetically distinct. AFD is inherited in an X- linked manner, whereas CDA type II follows an autosomal recessive pattern of inheritance. Although both AFD and CDA type II have been reported separately in the literature. The co- existence for both AFD and CDA type II has not been reported. We describe a 10- year- old boy, with both which is believed to be the first documented case.

    Digitalization of Memories - an Analysis Relationship Between Autobiographical Memory and Digital Photography

    Photography has been used as a mnemonic since its early years. It has the power to move the past to the present by breaking down the structure of time. Presenting a static image, it records an image of a past time. Looking through family and childhood photo albums, the person embarks on a journey through the past in his/her memory. Following digitalization, the function of photography has been changed in accordance with the transformation of it from analogue to digital. Photography is not only a mnemonic but also contains the function of the enjoyment of individuals, creating self, self-presenting to others. In terms of storage, screening and sharing, digital photography is more convenient and accessible than analogue photography. For these reasons, people's interest in digital photography has been rising and it encourages taking/recording images at the moments that will create their memories in the years ahead. The aim of this paper is to examine the relationship between autobiographical memory (contains information about individual experiences, memories) and forgetting/remembering between digital photography. The nature of the subject required the use of both qualitative and theoretical analysis of the participants' social media usage. The research data was collected conducting semi-structured interviews with participants who shared their images about individual lives and memories on social media. In addition, benefiting from the observation technique, the participants were requested to look at both printed and digital photo albums and asked if they remember the corresponding memories. The theoretical insights are based on critical theory. The studies reveal that memories become digital and affect memory due to rising motivation to take and share pictures on the social media.

    Accentuated Eccentric Load Training: Traditional Set Versus Cluster Set

    Background and Study Aim Material and MethodsThis study aims to comparatively analyse the effects of cluster set (CS) and traditional set (TS) applications on strength and power outputs in accentuated eccentric load (AEL) training. Thirty-two amateur male football players with at least 2 years of strength training history participated in the study (Xage: 18,78 +/- 0,83 years, Xheight:166,73 +/- 8,61 cm., Xbody weight: 69,59 +/- 6,03 kg.). Participants were randomly divided into two groups: CS (n=16) and TS (n=16). In both groups, the same "AEL Training" was applied and different set models were used. Augmented eccentric load (AEL) training was performed with 3 sets of 8 repetitions, 50% concentric and 80% eccentric of 1 Repetition Maximum (1-RM) and with a fast lifting tempo. The sets were completed with 20 seconds of rest after every two repetitions in the AEL-CS group and without any rest between repetitions in the AEL-TS group, and the training sessions were performed twice a week for 4 weeks. Countermovement jump (CMJ), 50cm drop jump-reactive strenght index (DJ-RSI) test, 1-RM strenght test, 10-20-30m sprint test and Illinois Agility Test (IAT) were performed on the athletes before and after the training.ResultsWhen analysing the data obtained in this study, Skewness and Kurtosis values and Kolmogorov-Smirnov values were examined to determine homogeneity. In order to compare the pre-test and post-test averages between groups, ANOVA was used for Repeated Measures, and Sample T Test was used to compare the pre-test and post-test averages within groups. The statistical significance level was determined as p<0.05. When the groups were compared, the difference in the improvement rate averages was tested. At the end of the four-week study, drop jump-reactive strength index (DJ-RSI), countermovement jump (CMJ), Illinois Agility Test (IAT) 10-20-30m sprint values and 1-RM values were improved percentage-wise in both AEL-CS and AEL-TS groups. Between the groups, a significant difference was observed between DJ-RSI, CMJ, and 10-20-m Sprint Test results (p<0.05). When we compare the results within groups, it can be concluded that the AEL-CS group showed more improvement in terms of strength, change of direction (COD) skills and Sprint compared to the AEL-TS group.ConclusionsIn conclusion, it can be advised to use cluster set in accentuated eccentric load training in order to improve strength, Sprint and COD skills.

    Effects of Triphasic Training Model Combined With Two Different Cluster Sets on Vertical Jump and Reactive Strength Index

    Background and Study Aim This study aims to examine the effects of the Triphasic Training Model (TTM) applied with different set designs (15-30 sec intra-set) on reactive strength index (RSI) and vertical jump values. Material and Methods Sixteen male athletes over 18 with at least three years of strength training experience (2 days a week) actively engaged in sports participated in the study. The study group was divided into two groups by calculating the relative strengths. The 15-second cluster set (C15) group exercises were performed with 15 seconds of rest between repetitions, and the 30-second cluster-set (C30) group practiced the exercises with 30 seconds of rest between repetitions. The triphasic training model was applied to all study groups for six weeks. Countermovement jump (CMJ) and drop jump tests were performed on the athletes before and after the training. Optojump brand photocell system was used for CMJ and RSI tests. For the RSI test, the desk height was determined as 40cm. Kolmogorov-Smirnov values were examined to assess the homogeneity of the data. To compare the means between groups, ANOVA was used for Repeated Measures, and a t-test was used to compare the pretest-posttest mean of the groups. The statistical significance level was determined as p<0.05. Results After triphasic training, CMJ and RSI values of both C15 and C30 groups increased (p<0.05). When the within-group pretest-posttest values were examined, it was seen that the C30 group showed more improvement than the C15 group. Conclusions As a result, it was seen that the triphasic training model applied twice a week for six weeks improved the CMJ and RSI values of the athletes, and it was more effective to use C30 instead of C15 in the use of cluster sets.
