In addition, an adaptation of the Turkish version of the Family Health Behavior Scale (FHBS) was performed in this study.Design and methods: This is a descriptive and methodological study. The research sample consisted of 358 parents who have a child between the ages of 5 and 12 studying in one of the seven state schools at the kindergarten, primary, and secondary school levels in Istanbul. Data were collected between February 2022 to May 2022 using the Parent and Child Descriptive Information Form, the Family Nutrition and Physical Activity (FNPA) Screening Tool, and the FHBS. IBM SPSS 25.0 (IBM, Armonk, NY, USA) and SPSS AMOS 21.0 software were used to analyze the data. Results: It was found that the confirmatory factor analysis result of FHBS confirmed the original structure of the scale, and Cronbach's Alpha coefficient was calculated as 0.80. A positive correlation was found between the parents' total scores of FNPA and FHBS (r:0.511, p < 0.001).Conclusions: It is recommended to evaluate the child and their parents holistically in preventing and managing childhood obesity. School health nurses should plan family-centered interventions to improve health behaviors and carry out these interventions with a multidisciplinary team. Moreover, it has been determined that FHBS is a valid and reliable measurement tool for the Turkish population.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1A Single-center's Early Surgical Outcomes of Living Donor Liver Transplantation(Elsevier Science inc, 2023) Anilir, Ender; Oral, Alihan; Atasoy, Alp; Civan, Hasret Ayyildiz; Topcu, Feyza Sonmez; Bayramoglu, Mert; Unal, BulentBackground. Living donor liver transplantation (LDLT) has become an increasingly common surgical option because the number of cadaveric donors is insufficient to fulfill the organ needs of patients facing end-stage cirrhosis. Many centers are investigating different surgical techniques to achieve lower complication rates. We aimed to examine our complication rates in light of demographic data, graft data, and perioperative findings as a single-center experience. Methods. The study included one hundred and three patients who underwent LDLT for endvein, and bile anastomosis type rates; anhepatic phase; cold ischemia time; operation time; and blood product transfusion rates were analyzed. Biliary complications in patients with single or multiple biliary anastomoses, right or left liver transplants, and with or without hepatic artery thrombosis were analyzed statistically. Results. There was no significant difference in biliary complications between patients who underwent single or multiple bile anastomosis (P = .231) or patients receiving right lobe and left lobe transplants (P = .315). Although there was no statistically significant difference in the rate of portal vein thrombosis between the regular and reconstructed portal vein anastomosis groups (P = .693), the postoperative portal vein thrombosis rate was statistically higher in patients with left lobe transplants (P = .044). Conclusions. Vascular and biliary complication rates can be reduced with increasing experience.Article Citation - WoS: 3Citation - Scopus: 7Effect of Peppermint-Lemon Aromatherapy on Nausea-Vomiting and Quality of Life in Pediatric Patients With Leukemia: a Randomized Controlled Trial(Elsevier Science inc, 2023) Sanci, Yagmur; Yildiz, Suzan; Aycicek, Ali; Mohur, NaciyeBackground: Nausea and vomiting, frequently induced by chemotherapy, can delay treatment protocols and the healing process. Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine how aromatherapy inhalation with peppermint and lemon using a diffuser affects nausea-vomiting management and quality of life in 2-12-year-old children undergoing chemotherapy. Design and methods: The study utilized a pretest-posttest control group experimental design with randomized groups. A total of 90 children who met the inclusion criteria were included in the study. The experimental group received Mentha Piperita and Citrus Lemon essential oils through a diffuser, while the placebo group received water through a diffuser. The control group did not receive any intervention. Results: Pulse and respiratory rates of children treated with aromatherapy were found to be significantly lower than the other groups. After aromatherapy application, quality of life of the children in the experimental group was significantly higher than the other groups. The change in the Index of Nausea, Vomiting, and Retching scores of the experimental group on the 4th chemotherapy cycle compared to the 1st chemotherapy cycle was significantly higher than the change in the other groups. Conclusions: Consequently, it was determined that inhalation aromatherapy with peppermint-lemon was effective in the management of chemotherapy-induced nausea-vomiting symptoms and quality of life compared to the placebo and control groups. Practice implications: Inhalation aromatherapy with mint-lemon can be used as an alternative method to improve the quality of life in children with leukemia who suffer from chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. Beliefs Toward Mental Health Conditions(Elsevier Science inc, 2023) San, Eda Ozkara; Dikec, Gul; Ata, Elvan E.; Ozkara San, EdaBackground: Negative beliefs can be a barrier to provide quality nursing care for persons living with mental health conditions. This international SP simulation study explored nursing students' beliefs toward persons with mental health conditions in the United States (US) and Turkey before and after participating in a mental health standardized patient simulation. Methods: A quasi-experimental study design was used in two settings in two countries. Measures included a socio-demographic survey and the Beliefs toward Mental Illness scale. Results were analyzed using paired sample t-test, independent t-test, and chi-square tests. Results: Students in the US had significantly lessened negative attitudes toward persons with mental health conditions when compared to the Turkey group. Conclusion: SP simulation may offer opportunities to improve nursing students' beliefs toward persons with mental health conditions.Article Effects of Peroperative Cold Ischemia Time and Anhepatic Phase in Adult Living Donor Liver Transplant Recipients: Operation Time That Is Not Affected by the Anhepatic Phase but Is Prolonged by Cold Ischemia Time(Elsevier Science inc, 2024) Anilir, Ender; Topcu, Feyza Sonmez; Sahin, Emrah; Oral, Alihan; Civan, Hasret Ayyildiz; Poyrazoglu, Kursat Orhan; Unal, Bulent; Sönmez Topçu, Feyza; Orhan Poyrazoğlu, Kürşat; Ayyildiz Civan, HasretObjective. It was aimed to examine the overall role of cold ischemia time and anhepatic phase durations in terms of peroperative blood transfusion needs, hospital stay conditions and postoperative charges, and survival in recipients. Material and Methods. One hundred forty-eight adult living donor liver transplant recipients (18 years and older) were included in the study. Whether the anhepatic phase and cold ischemia duration have an effect on the rates of surgery time, blood product transfusion, total hospital and intensive care unit stay, postoperative biliary complications, hepatic vein thrombosis, portal vein thrombosis, early postoperative bleeding, sepsis, and primary graft dysfunction. Was analyzed statistically. In addition, the effect of the anhepatic phase and cold ischemia time on graft survival was statistically examined by creating an average of the patient follow-up period. Results. It was observed that the operation time increased statistically as the cold ischemia time increased (P P = .000). No statistically significant fi cant relationship was found between other fi nd- ings and cold ischemia time and anhepatic phase. Conclusion. Prolonged surgery time due to increased cold ischemia time may be an important fi nding in terms of peroperative and postoperative results of the graft.Article Development of the Medical Adherence Scale in Adolescents Using Psychotropic Medication and Evaluation of Validity and Reliability in Turkish Population(Elsevier Science inc, 2024) Dikec, Gul; Bilac, Oznur; Sonkaya, Hilal Isleyen; Aydemir, Omer; Işleyen Sonkaya, HilalPurpose: Although treatment non -adherence is relatively high among adolescents, there is a need for standardized measurement tools that measure adherence to treatment in adolescents. This study aimed to develop a new measurement tool to assess the adherence to treatment of adolescents with mental disorders who use psychotropic medication. Methods: The data of this methodologically designed study were collected between 01.04.2022 and 01.07.2023 in the Department of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry of a university hospital in the Aegean Region of Turkey. The Medication Adherence Reporting Scale and Adolescent Medical Adherence Scale draft form were used for data collection. The scale items were formed from the themes, sub -themes, and statements in the qualitative study that the researchers had conducted with adolescents with mental disorders and their parents, clinicians' experiences, and systematic reviews and meta -synthesis in the literature. The study sample consisted of 95 adolescents with mental disorders. Exploratory factor analysis was performed with Varimax rotation to determine the factorial construct validity of the scale. Internal consistency analyses were performed in reliability analyses, and Cronbach's alpha coeff icient was used. Results: The mean age of the adolescents was 14.18 years (1.81); 50.5% were male, and 96.8% were attending school. When the mental disorder diagnoses were analyzed, 65.3% of the adolescents were being followed up with Attention De ficit and Hyperactivity Disorder diagnoses, and 58.8% were using stimulants. The 12 -item form of the Adolescent Medical Adherence Scale was found to have a three -factor structure with item -total correlation values ranging between 0.26 and 0.66, and these factors were named functionality, responsibility in treatment, and medication adherence. Factor loadings ranged between 0.44 and 0.86, and the items explained 62.98% of the total variance. The internal consistency coef ficients of the scale were between 0.69 and 0.83 for the subscales and 0.82 for the total scale. Conclusion: Based on the analysis and results used in this study, the Adolescent Medical Adherence Scale is a valid and reliable new measurement tool. Practice implications: This tool can be used in clinical settings to evaluate adolescents' treatment adherence and prognosis. Clinical studies conducted with adolescents can also determine adherence to treatment and affecting factors. (c) 2024 Elsevier Inc. We elicited financial biases of first -year university students and their parents. Results indicate the intergenerational transmission of illusion of control, loss -aversion, and overconfidence from parents to children as well as transmission of affinity bias only from parents to daughters. Financial knowledge and saving habits of students have a strong influence on the transmission of financial biases. In addition, we found a moderate effect of economic preferences in the transmission process.
