Article Visual Tracking Efficiency across Different Spacing Widths: A Text-Free Eye-Tracking Study(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2026) Akyurek, Gokcen; Akcay, Arif; Aydoner Bektas, SelenThis study examined how spatial spacing influences visual tracking efficiency using a novel text-free eye-tracking paradigm designed to minimize the influence of reading-related processes. Twenty participants visually followed straight, curved, and angular paths with five different widths (0.5-3 cm), while eye movements were recorded using a Tobii Eye Tracker T120. Results showed that narrow angular paths (0.5-1 cm) were associated with significantly higher fixation counts and longer fixation durations compared to wider angular paths and other paths. For angular paths, fixation counts differed significantly between 0.5 cm and 2.5 cm (p = .005), and between 0.5 cm and 3 cm (p = .003). Total fixation counts and total fixation durations were significantly greater for angular paths than for straight and curved paths. The findings indicate that narrower spatial constraints increase visual-perceptual load and reduce oculomotor fluency, whereas moderate spacing (approximately 2.5 cm) facilitates smoother visual guidance. The results are limited to visual tracking and oculomotor control within constrained geometric layouts and do not reflect reading behavior. The study highlights the utility of text-free visual tracking tasks for isolating low-level perceptual and oculomotor processes and informing future research on spatial layout and visual guidance in digital environments.Article From Schizophrenic Desiring-Machines to Neoliberal Spectators: Deleuzian Notes on Turkish Football Fandom(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2026) Erturan-Ogut, Esin Esra; Irak, DağhanDrawing on Deleuze and Guattari's concepts of desire and schizophrenia, this paper examines the transformation of Turkish football fandom from a schizo socius into a disciplined and regulated one. Ultras once functioned as desiring-machines that resisted commodification and political intervention but, in the last decade, have increasingly been contained through surveillance, repression and economic exclusion under authoritarian neoliberal governance, resulting in the withdrawal of fans from overt political expression. By situating Turkish football fandom within a Deleuzian framework, the study contributes to a postmodern understanding of the football socius and highlights the tension between grassroots resistance and neoliberal regulation.Article Comparison of Executive Functions, Visual Perception, and Cognitive Skills in High-Average and Average-Ability Children with Dyslexia(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2026) Akyurek, Gokcen; Aydoner Bektas, SelenThis study compared executive functions, visual perception, and cognitive skills in high-average and average-ability children with dyslexia. Seventy-six children aged 8-12 were assessed using the Executive Functions and Occupational Routines Scale (EFORTS), the Test of Visual-Perceptual Skills - Third Edition (TVPS-3), and the Dynamic Occupational Therapy Cognitive Assessment for Children (DOTCA-CH). High-average ability children scored higher on DOTCA-CH domains such as visual-motor construction and thinking operations, while average-ability peers performed better on all TVPS-3 subtests. EFORTS differed only in play-leisure routines. Findings suggest that dyslexia presents with diverse cognitive patterns, emphasizing the need for approaches that address individual differences.Article A New Measurement Tool for School Readiness with Developmental, Learning, and Functional Outcomes: A Comprehensive School Readiness Assessment Scale (COSRAS)(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2026) Aydoner Bektas, Selen; Bumin, Gonca; Karahan, SevilayThis study aimed to develop the Comprehensive School Readiness Assessment Scale (COSRAS), a multidimensional instrument designed to evaluate school readiness in children aged 57-72 months. Scale development followed DeVellis's framework. An initial item pool of 216 items was generated based on developmental, learning-related, and functional school readiness constructs and subsequently refined through expert review to 182 items. The finalized scale was completed by teachers of 1813 children, and test-retest reliability data were obtained from 386 teachers. Content validity indices were high, ranging from 0.892 to 1.000. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported the proposed eight-factor structure, demonstrating excellent model fit (CFI = 0.999; RMSEA = 0.000-0.009). Convergent validity with the Primary School Readiness Scale was strong (r = 0.665-0.695). The internal consistency of the scale was excellent across all domains (alpha = 0.916-0.969), and test-retest reliability was high (ICC > 0.990). COSRAS demonstrates strong psychometric properties and provides a comprehensive assessment of school readiness by integrating developmental competencies, learning-related skills, and functional performance. The scale enables early identification of children who may be at risk for neurodevelopmental or learning-related challenges before school entry. COSRAS may assist educators and allied professionals in early childhood and school-based settings by offering domain-specific profiles that inform instructional planning, individualized supports, and early intervention strategies.Article Effect of Gender Equality Education on Health Students Gender Perceptions and Roles: A Randomized Controlled Trial(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2026) Isbay Aydemir, Beyzanur; Sahin Tokatlioglu, Tugba; Kuru Akturk, Nur Bahar; Dikec, GulAim To evaluate the impact of community gender equality education program on health sciences students' perceptions of gender, gender roles, and their awareness of social norms and gender inequality. Design A single-blind, two-arm, parallel-group randomized controlled trial. Methods Conducted with 70 students at a foundation university in Istanbul (2024-2025). The intervention group received two weeks structured training. Data were collected using the Perception of Gender Scale (PGS) and Gender Roles Attitude Scale (GRAS). Results No significant differences were observed at baseline. Post-intervention, the intervention group showed significant improvements in PGS and GRAS scores, while no change was found in the control group. Conclusion Short-term gender equality education program effectively improved students' gender perceptions and attitudes.Article Past and Present of Nation-Building: Ideological Instrumentalization of Ministry of Youth and Sports of Turkey(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2026) Erturan-Ogut, Esin EsraWhen Erdogan declared in 2012, 'We will raise a pious generation', Turkey already had a national identity rooted in secularism and Turkism since the early Republic. His statement signalled an attempt to reshape identity along the AKP's anti-Kemalist lines. This study examines shifting nation-building agendas in state-run youth and sports institutions, comparing the early Republican era with the AKP period. Early programmes emphasized Turkism, secularism, and paramilitarism, reflecting the ideological imperatives of the time. Under the AKP, however, programmes increasingly promoted Islamism and neo-Ottomanism, opposing earlier values. The study argues that AKP-era youth policies deliberately sought to replace Kemalist principles, with the Ministry of Youth and Sports serving as a channel for ideological nation-building absent in formal education.Article The Influence of Leisure Screen Time on Sleep Patterns and Feeding Behaviors in Primary School Children(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2026) Aydoner Bektas, Selen; Bumin, GoncaThe increasing use of screen-based devices in children's daily lives has raised concerns about their effects on health behaviors such as sleep and feeding. This study investigated the relationship between leisure screen time and sleep and feeding problems in primary school children. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with 322 children aged 7-10 years and their parents. Parents completed questionnaires measuring children's daily leisure screen time, sleep patterns, and feeding behaviors. Results showed that weekend leisure screen time (M = 149.4 minutes/day) was higher than weekdays. Significant positive correlations were found between leisure screen time and both total feeding problem scores (weekdays: r = 0.22; weekends: r = 0.25, p < .01) and sleep disturbances (weekdays: r = 0.29; weekends: r = 0.32, p < .01). The most affected areas were selective eating and sleep initiation/maintenance. Regression analysis revealed that weekend leisure screen time significantly predicted feeding problems (beta = 0.22, p = .001) and sleep disturbances (beta = 0.27, p < .001), explaining 8% and 12% of the variance, respectively. The findings indicate the importance of managing children's screen time - particularly on weekends - to support healthier sleep and eating patterns and guide family-based interventions.Article Positioning School Readiness as Ecological Fit: The School Readiness Ecological Approach (SERA) for Occupational Therapy and Education(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2026) Aydoner Bektas, SelenTraditional perspectives on school readiness have emphasized child-level competencies such as cognitive, language, and behavioral skills. While important, the narrow focus overlooks the ecological systems - families, teachers, and communities - that shape children's adaptation to school. The participation-oriented perspective of occupational therapy has also been largely absent from the discourse. The School Readiness Ecological Approach (SERA) reframes school readiness as a matter of ecological fit rather than merely a set of children's skills. Based on Bronfenbrenner's ecological systems theory and the Person - Environment - Occupation model, SERA conceptualizes readiness as the outcome of dynamic exchanges between children, families, educators, schools, and policy environments. SERA addresses key gaps by: (1) shifting focus from isolated child attributes to participation in real-life contexts; (2) integrating occupational therapy's holistic perspective into readiness; and (3) providing a multi-level framework to guide research, practice, and policy. SERA emphasizes four domains - child, family, educational environment, and community - as interconnected contributors to school readiness trajectories. As a conceptual bridge across education, health, and social systems, SERA will broaden theoretical scope, foster interdisciplinary collaboration, and promote inclusive, and sustainable strategies. Reconceptualizing school readiness as ecological fit will help move beyond deficit-based views and support more equitable and effective school transitions.Article Citation - WoS: 1Post-Truth Populism as an Emerging Electoral Strategy: The Case of Turkey's 2023 Elections(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2025) Eldem, TubaThis article develops a new theoretical framework to explain how right-wing populist incumbents mobilise electoral support in competitive authoritarian regimes. It argues that post-truth populism, defined as the strategic fusion of securitised discourse and emotionally charged identity appeals with epistemic manipulation, enables populist leaders to shape the political battlefield through affective and symbolic narratives rather than policy content. Drawing on discourse analysis of President Recep Tayyip Erdo & gbreve;an's 2023 campaign in Turkey, the article shows how the ruling coalition reframed the elections as an existential struggle against internal and external enemies while simultaneously offering emotionally resonant promises of national revival. Rather than focus solely on institutional advantages or voter grievances, this study foregrounds the discursive agency of populist leaders and their ability to manufacture fear, pride and loyalty. By analysing how Erdo & gbreve;an's campaign displaced economic accountability with emotionally saturated, post-factual narratives, the article contributes to literatures on populism, post-truth politics and securitisation. It argues that the convergence of post-truth politics and populist securitisation forms a powerful mechanism for authoritarian endurance in hybrid regimes, transforming elections into moralised referenda on identity and national survival.Article Logistics Performance and Agricultural Exports: Evidence From Sub-Saharan Africa(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2025) Vardar, N. Baris; Cifter, Atilla; Delipinar, Gul Esin; Tekelioglu, Mehmet GurelThis paper investigates the relationship between logistics performance and agricultural exports in Sub-Saharan Africa. Using dynamic panel data from 2012 to 2022, we examine the impact of various components of logistics performance on aggregate agricultural exports. We also analyse how logistics performance affects exports in agricultural subsectors. Our results show that improvements in logistics infrastructure, customs procedures, and international shipping services significantly increase agricultural export performance. The food and live animals subsector benefits the most, followed by crude materials and animal and vegetable oils and fats subsectors. We also find that financial development, foreign direct investment, and world demand are important drivers of agricultural exports in Sub-Saharan Africa. We include institutional quality indicators in our analysis for robustness checks, showing that governance factors also play a significant role in boosting exports. These findings highlight the need for targeted investment in logistics and complementary economic policies, supported by good governance, to harness the region's agricultural export potential and promote sustainable economic development.
