Article Sexual Problems of Women with Kidney Transplant: A Qualitative Study(Galenos Publ House, 2026) Akinci, Naile; Varisoglu, Yeliz Yildirim; Dogan, BayramObjective: This qualitative study aimed to explore the experiences, perspectives, and challenges faced by women who underwent kidney transplantation, particularly regarding the impact of transplantation on their own and their partner's sexual lives. Methods: The study was conducted with 15 women who had received kidney transplants at a private hospital in & Idot;stanbul. Data were gathered using a two-part semi-structured interview form developed by the researcher based on a review of the relevant literature. The data obtained from the interviews were analyzed using content analysis. Data analysis was carried out concurrently with data collection. This study adhered to the consolidated criteria for reporting qualitative research. Results: Based on a thematic analysis of the interviews, four main themes emerged: concerns about reproductive health, including subthemes of fear of infertility and anxiety about pregnancy; disease-associated sexual reluctance, including subthemes of reduced sexual interest, fatigue, weakness, sleep disturbances, and depression; perception of femininity and body image, including subthemes of feelings of incompleteness and inadequacy; concerns about the spouse/partner, including subthemes of fears about being unable to meet the sexual needs of the spouse/partner and feelings of guilt related to their partner's sexual dissatisfaction. Conclusion: In conclusion, sexual dysfunction continues to persist among women even after kidney transplantation due to various physical and psychological factors. To support patients in maintaining a healthy sexual life as part of their overall well-being, sexual health should be routinely assessed by a multidisciplinary team, including transplant surgeons, surgical and obstetric/ gynecology nurses, and psychologists.Article Pre-Service Physical Education Teachers' Teacher Identity Scale (PPET-TI): Adaptation Study to Turkish Culture(Hacettepe University, 2026) Sonmez, Huseyin Ozan; Asci, Fevziye Hulya; Mirzeoglu, Ayse Dilsad; Asci, HülyaIn Turkey, the lack of measures for assessing the teacher identity of pre-service physical education teachers remains a significant challenge. Developing quantitative instruments grounded in a robust theoretical framework is crucial, as such tools would not only advance research in this field but also contribute to improving the quality of physical education teacher education. This study aims to test the reliability and validity of the Pre-service Physical Education Teachers' Teacher Identity Scale (PPET-TI) to Turkish pre-service physical education teachers. The PPET-TI is a 7-point Likert-type scale comprising 17 items and three subscales: self-definitions, teaching goals, and professional responsibilities. Two hundred fifty pre-service physical education teachers (96 females and 154 males; (x) over bar (age) = 21.25 +/- 2.36) voluntarily participated in the study. Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA) and Exploratory Structural Equation Modeling (ESEM) were conducted to evaluate the construct validity. The results of the CFA indicated that S-B chi(2)/df 1.90, CFI 0.95, TLI 0.94, RMSEA 0.06, and SRMR 0.05. The results of the ESEM indicated that S-B chi(2)/df 2.79, CFI 0.98, TLI 0.97, RMSEA 0.08, and SRMR 0.03. The item factor loadings ranged from 0.58 to 0.97 in the CFA and ranged from 0.45 to 0.82 in the ESEM. The findings indicated that the scale exhibited both discriminant and convergent validity, with CR and Cronbach's alpha being strong. An evaluation of the fit indices, item factor loadings, and inter-item relationships revealed that the CFA results were more consistent with the original structure of the scale. Based on all the findings, it can be concluded that the Turkish version of the scale is suitable for assessing the teacher identities of pre-service physical education teachers.Article Determination of Age- and Gender-Specific Reference Values for Different Functional Tests with or without Cognitive Dual-Task in Young Adults: An Observational Study(Turkey Assoc Physiotherapists, 2025) Analay Akbaba, Yildiz; Emirza Cilbir, Cigdem; Poyraz Isleyen, Tugce; Evrendilek, Halenur; Gungor Eroglu, Nazli; Asena Yekdaneh, Aye; Gungor, Feray; Güngör, Nazlı; Emirza, Cigdem; İşleyen, Tuğçe Poyraz; Analay, Yıldız; Yekdaneh, Ayşe AsenaPurpose: To determine the age-and gender-specific reference values for the five functional tests performed with or without cognitive dual-task in young adults. Methods: In this cross-sectional observational study, a total of 107 participants were divided into four subgroups based on gender and age: females 18-25 years (G1), and 26-35 years (G2), and males 18-25 years (G3), and 26-35 years (G4). Participants completed the timed up and go test (TUG), 4 meter gait speed test, 10 meter walk test (10MWT), timed 25-foot walk test, and 1 minute sit-to-stand test (1MSTS) with and without dual-tasks. The mean value of each test was recorded. Results: Significant differences were observed in some functional tests. TUG was longer in G1 compared to G2 (p=0.019), 10MWT dual-task performance differed between G1 and G3 (p=0.041), and 1MSTS and 1MSTSdual scores were higher in G3 compared to G4 (p=0.044 and p=0.035, respectively). All dual-task conditions led to decreased performance compared to single-task conditions (p<0.001) Conclusion: The dual-task added to the performance tests changes the time, speed, and number of repetitions in healthy individuals, and these effects may vary according to age and gender. These reference values can guide clinical assessments of dual-task performance in this population.Article The Relation Between Personality Traits and Chemotherapy Symptoms of Cancer Patients(Marmara Univ, Inst Health Sciences, 2025) Özkan, İlknur; Taylan, Seçil; Eroglu, Nermın; Kolac, NurcanObjective:This study is important as it is one of the first studies to evaluate the relationship between personality traits and symptoms. Methods:This study was planned as descriptive and cross-sectional. The study was conducted with 468 patients who were voluntary to participate in the study and applied to the chemotherapy unit in a private oncology hospital in Istanbul between January-June 2019. Data were obtained using the Patient Information Form, Chemotherapy Symptom Assessment Scale (C-SAS), and Big Five Inventory. Results:The data were evaluated on computer environment. The mean age of the patients was 59.46±11.78 years, 59.8% are female, 35.7% were secondary school graduate, and 36.5% were housewives.When the mean scores of the big five inventory were examined, it was found that the mean scores were 29.72±3.38 in Extraversion subscale, 28.31±5.62 in Agreeableness subscale, 27.14±4.44 in Conscientiousness subscale, 25.26±3.31 in Neuroticism subscale, and 28.31±5.62 in Openness subscale. One-unit increase in neuroticism was determined to increase post-treatment nausea by 1.14 times, diarrhea by 1.28 times, change in sexual life by 1.14 times, feeling pessimistic and sad by 1.071 times, and feeling anxious and distressed by 1.08 times. Conclusion:It was observed that the personality traits of cancer patients were correlated with the symptoms they experienced related to chemotherapy and the symptoms decreased with the increase of openness, extraversion, agreeableness and conscientiousness characteristics and the symptoms increased with the increase of neuroticism characteristic.These results indicated that healthcare professionals should consider personnel characteristics of cancer patients while evaluating the symptoms they experienced and providing care.Article Myrtus Communis Ameliorates Ionizing Radiation-Induced Cardiopulmonary Injury in Rats: Trod-Grog Study(Keai Publishing Ltd, 2026) Aytekin, Aynur; Isci, Oguzhan; Ozyilmaz, Nagehan; Karaoglu, Sumeyye Yilmaz; Ertas, Busra; Sen, Ali; Atasoy, Beste Melek; Yılmaz Karaoğlu, SümeyyeObjectives: Ionizing radiation (IR), widely used in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, can damage vital organs such as the heart and lungs through oxidative stress. This study aims to assess the potential radioprotective effect of Myrtus communis (MC) against cardiopulmonary injury. Methods: Thirty female rats were divided into four groups. Control (C) and IR (R) groups received oral saline. The treatment (R+MC) and pretreatment (R+preMC) groups received MC (100 mg/kg) for 4 days (starting on the day of IR) and 8 days (starting 4 days before IR), respectively. All IR-exposed groups (R, R+MC, R+preMC) received a single 10 Gy whole-body irradiation. Histopathological changes were assessed by hematoxylin-eosin staining, while oxidative stress was evaluated by measuring malondialdehyde (MDA), glutathione (GSH), myeloperoxidase (MPO), nitric oxide (NO), superoxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione S-transferase (GST), and tissue factor activity (TFa) levels. Protein profiles in tissues were analyzed by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). Results: Histopathologically, MC reduced alveolar and cardiomyocyte damage in both R+MC and R+preMC groups. IR increased all oxidative stress markers and decreased antioxidant parameters in heart and lung tissues (p < 0.05-0.001). Both MC treatment and pretreatment reversed these effects, significantly reducing oxidative/inflammatory markers and restoring antioxidant enzyme activities (p < 0.05-0.001). The R+preMC group demonstrated a stronger protective effect than the R+MC group. Conclusion: Our study shows that MC has a radioprotective effect on the cardiopulmonary system by decreasing oxidative damage. MC appears to be a promising natural compound for advanced radioprotection research, and further molecular and clinical studies could clarify its mechanisms and potential applications<bold>.</bold>Article Implementation of the Homeostasis-Enrichment (Hep®) Approach for an Infant at Risk for Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Case Report(Necmettin Erbakan Univ, Fac Medicine-Neu Press, 2025) Balikci, Aymen; Balikci, Ayse Firdevs Aracikul; Demirbag, Izgi Miray; Sirma, Gamze Cagla; Beaudry-Bellefeuille, Isabelle; May-Benson, Teresa A.Background and Clinical Significance: This case report explicates the implementation and outcomes of the Homeostasis-Enrichment-Plasticity (HEP (R)) Approach in a 10-month-old male infant with an increased risk of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) who exhibited challenges in sensory functioning and motor development. Case Presentation: The intervention was carried out utilizing the eleven-step HEP (R) Approach process. The Peabody Developmental Motor Scale-2 (PDMS-2), Test of Sensory Function in Infants (TSFI), Adaptive Behavior Assessment System-3 (ABAS-3), and Goal Attainment Scale (GAS) were used as outcome measures before and after the intervention. A pediatric physical therapist conducted an hour-long intervention weekly for 10 weeks using the HEP (R) Approach implementation guide. Post-intervention, the infant's fine and gross motor skill scores in the PDMS-2 and General Adaptive Composite in the ABAS-3 exhibited significant improvement, as determined by the 95% confidence interval overlap analysis. The TSFI total score also improved categorically. An overall GAS score of +1.6 corresponded to a t-score of 74.12, indicating significant progress towards the individualized intervention goals. Conclusions: The HEP (R) Approach enhanced motor development, sensory functioning, general adaptive skills, and parental goals in a 10-month-old infant at risk for ASD. The results support further examination of the HEP approach's effectiveness in infants at risk for ASD.Article Measuring Narcissism in Cyberspace: Psychometric Evaluation of the Turkish Online Narcissism Personality Inventory (ONPI)(Istanbul Univ, Methodology & Sociology Research Center, 2025) Aytac, Sevinc Serpil; Bilir, Kadriye Burcu Ongen; Aydin, Gulden Cetin; Yuzaki, EnginThe widespread use of digital technologies and the increasing prevalence of internet usage in a globalized world have significantly influenced individuals' personality traits. In particular, the restriction of face-to-face interactions during global pandemics has led individuals to maintain their lives in digital environments. These developments have made it increasingly important to investigate the relationship between internet use and personality characteristics. This study aims to adapt the Online Narcissistic Personality Inventory (ONPI), developed by Chou and Farn (2015) based on the 40-item Narcissistic Personality Inventory by Raskin and Terry (1988), into Turkish and to examine its psychometric properties. The study sample consists of 397 individuals from diverse age groups and socio-demographic backgrounds. Data was analyzed using SPSS 30 and AMOS 30 software. According to the results of the exploratory factor analysis, the item factor loadings ranged from 0.466 to 0.812, and the total variance explained by the scale was found to be 58.36%. Confirmatory factor analysis results (Chi-square/df:2.584; RMSEA:0.063; NFI: 0.84; IFI: 0.90; TLI: 0.87; CFI: 0.90; GFI: 0.90) indicated that the scale exhibits a five-factor structure with 27 items. The internal consistency of the scale was high, with a Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.93. Additionally, the item total correlations ranged between 0.326 and 0.700. The findings demonstrate that the Turkish adaptation of the Online Narcissistic Personality Inventory is a valid and reliable measurement tool.Article Accelerated Planar Development of Convex Free-Form Mesh Patches Using a Variable Step-Size Energy Dissipation Approach(Sciendo, 2025) Yavuz, Erdem; Yazici, RifatFree-form complex surfaces are prevalent in modern graphic applications. With the increasing prevalence of complex 3D surfaces enabled by advances in range scanning and 3D printing technologies, minimising parameterization times for large meshes has become crucial. This paper proposes an efficient approach for the planar development of convex free-form mesh patches using an improved energy-based technique with a variable step-size algorithm. Building upon the energy model of Wang et al., our study addresses the limitations of conventional energy dissipation algorithms, which employ fixed step sizes. The proposed variable step-size method, particularly suitable for convex or disk-shaped mesh surfaces, dynamically adjusts steps, significantly reducing energy dissipation iterations. Leveraging our previous geometric flattening method, we further enhance planar surface development using an advanced mass-spring-based approach. Here, we show that our method accelerates the mechanical flattening process while maintaining high accuracy, achieving a shape error of 0.400 and an area error of 0.147 after 36 iterations for the Surf1 patch, reducing the required iterations by nearly half compared to the fixed step-size method. This study compares the chemical composition and the antioxidant, antidiabetic, and antimicrobialproperties of ethanol extracts of G. glabra L. two different varieties from different regions. The phytochemicalcompositions was determined using GC-MS. Additionaly, total phenolic (TPC), flavonoid (TFC) and triterpene (TTC)contents were determined. Glycyrrhizic acid contents were analysed by HPLC. G. glabra var. glandulifera (GF1) showedthe highest antioxidant activity. All extracts had strong antidiabetic effects, besides GF1 showing the highest effect. TheMIC values was determined against 8 bacterial and 1 yeast strain and values ranged from 2.500 to 0.500; 2.500 to 0.714;2.500 to 0.714 for G. glabra var. glabra (GB), GF1, G. glabra var. glandulifera (GF2) respectively. Phytochemical studies haveshown that TPC was 100.60±5.06, 127.90±0.30, 69.01±0.30 mg GAE /g extract; TFC was 80.07±0.15, 25.35±0.0, 16.58±0.31mg KE/g and TTC was 217.30±6.05,172.40±2.17, 126.30±4.50 mg OE/g extract for GB, GF1, GF2, respectively. GF1 inparticular has the highest glycyrrhizic acid content. This study will contribute to the creation of new treatment strategiesand potential therapeutic agents in addition to the use of G. glabra L. in traditional treatments. Our study is also apreliminary study for future studies.Article A Novel Acoustic Source Localization Technique for Edge AI Applications: A Lightweight Framework and Implementation for IoT and Smart Sensing Devices(Istanbul University, 2025) Yarkan, S.This paper presents a novel and computationally efficient three-point signal estimation method for acoustic direction finding, designed specifically for low-cost embedded platforms. The proposed approach offers a lightweight alternative to traditional cross-correlation techniques by minimizing computational complexity while preserving high angular resolution. The method was implemented and tested on an STM32F429 microcontroller using a pair of MAX4466 electret microphones arranged on a fixed baseline. The system architecture leverages bare-metal signal processing routines optimized with Acorn RISC Machine Cortex. Microcontroller Software Interface Standard (ARM CMSIS-DSP) libraries, enabling real-time performance on resource-constrained hardware. Extensive experiments were conducted to evaluate the angular estimation accuracy under varying signal-tonoise ratios and source orientations. Results show that the system maintains sub-degree mean square error for source angles up to 30°, with noticeable performance degradation observed at 40° due to the directional response characteristics of the microphone elements. A comprehensive explanation is provided linking this degradation to reduced microphone sensitivity at wider angles of incidence. The proposed solution is ideal for applications requiring embedded acoustic localization, including smart interfaces, vehicular monitoring, and surveillance systems. In addition, the paper discusses the implications of deploying such systems in artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled and security-critical environments, highlighting emerging threats such as adversarial acoustic interference and spoofing attacks. These challenges underscore the importance of resilient and efficient DF methods that can operate reliably within the constraints of embedded systems. The presented work lays the foundation for future research in secure, scalable, and AI-compatible acoustic sensing platforms. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.
