After obtaining ethical approval, researchers conducted semi\documentclass[12pt]{minimal} \usepackage{amsmath} \usepackage{wasysym} \usepackage{amsfonts} \usepackage{amssymb} \usepackage{amsbsy} \usepackage{mathrsfs} \usepackage{upgreek} \setlength{\oddsidemargin}{-69pt} \begin{document}$$\:-$$\end{document}structured interviews with 25 clinical nurses. The interviews explored nurses' perceptions of AI, including its basic concepts, applications in nursing practice, ethical and social implications, and potential benefits and drawbacks.ResultsThe analysis identified four overarching themes: (1) Nurses' Conceptualizations of Artificial Intelligence, (2) Opportunities of AI in Nursing Practice, (3) Threats of AI in Nursing Practice, and (4) Ethical and Psychological Concerns in AI-Based Nursing Practice. The findings revealed that nurses had a foundational understanding of AI and its definitions. They acknowledged both the positive and negative impacts of AI technologies on their practice. Nurses expressed that AI could reduce workload, enhance patient care, and improve efficiency. However, they also articulated significant threats, including concerns over professional redundancy, emotional disconnection in caregiving, de-skilling, and the risk of dehumanizing the healthcare environment. Additionally, ethical and psychological concerns emerged, such as ambiguity in accountability, threats to data security and patient safety, unsuitability in psychiatric care contexts, staff surveillance anxiety, and risks of misuse or systemic bias.ConclusionThe study concluded that while nurses possess a basic understanding of AI, the effective and ethical integration of AI technologies in nursing requires targeted training, institutional preparedness, and robust interdisciplinary collaboration. To ensure AI complements rather than compromises nursing values, it is imperative to equip nurses with skills in digital literacy, ethical reasoning, and critical engagement with AI tools. The findings highlight the necessity of structured education programs and policy development that address both the technological and humanistic dimensions of AI use in healthcare. Future research should actively incorporate patient and public voices to ensure that AI-driven transformations in care remain aligned with the principles of patient-centeredness and human dignity.Article Psychometric Evaluation of the Person-Centred Climate Questionnaire - Staff Version(BMC, 2025) Arici, Furkan Cihat; Harmanci Seren, Arzu Kader; Edvardsson, DavidBackgroundValid and reliable instruments are needed to assess person-centredness that serve as quality care indicators. Person-Centred Climate Questionnaire - staff version is an interculturally used tool to evaluate person-centredness in clinical settings. This study aimed to examine the psychometrics of the tool in the Turkish language.MethodsThis was a methodological study involving a sample of 140 nurses. One of the researchers collected data using the Turkish version of the questionnaire-staff version in a private hospital in Istanbul. After performing the language validity steps, the researchers analysed the content validity ratios of the items and the questionnaire's content validity index, and they performed exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis to validate the construct. The internal consistency of the subdimensions and the questionnaire was determined utilising a Cronbach's Alpha test.ResultsThe content validity ratios of the items ranged from 0.84 to 1, and the correlation coefficients ranged from 0.50 to 0.69. The three-factor structure accounted for 70.40% of the total variance. The items' standardised factor loads were between 0.501 and 1.140. The Cronbach's alpha consistency value was 0.90.ConclusionThe staff version of the questionnaire is an adequately valid and reliable instrument in the Turkish language.Article Citation - WoS: 22Citation - Scopus: 22The Earthquakes in Turkey and Their Effects on Nursing and Community Health(Wiley, 2023) Seren, Arzu Kader Harmanci; Dikec, Guel; Harmanci Seren, Arzu KaderBackgroundSevere damage was experienced in 10 provinces in Turkey, and the north of Syria, with the earthquakes that hit Kahramanmaras at midnight and afternoon on February 6, 2023. AimThe authors aimed to give brief information to the international nursing community about the situation related to earthquakes in the aspects of nurses. ConclusionThese earthquakes caused traumatic processes in the affected regions. Many people, including nurses and other healthcare professionals, died or were injured. The results demonstrated that the required preparedness had not been applied. Nurses went to these areas voluntarily or on assignment and cared for individuals with injured. The universities in the country passed to distance education because of the shortage of safe places for victims. This situation also negatively influenced nursing education and clinical practice by interrupting in-person education one more time after the COVID-19 pandemic. Implications for nursing and nursing policySince the outcomes show a need for well-organized health and nursing care, policymakers may consider getting nurses' contributions to the disaster preparedness and management policy-making processes.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 2The Effect of a Video-Based Covid-19 Paediatric Patient Education on State Anxiety in Children With Suspected Covid-19 Admitted To Hospital(Elsevier Sci Ltd, 2023) Sanci, Yagmur; Celik, Serap; Yildiz, SuzanBackground: Anxiety causes the long-term psychological impacts on children during the pandemic.Objective: The aim of this study is to reduce anxiety in paediatric patients and increase their adherence to treatment through a video-based COVID-19 paediatric patient education.Methods: This quasi-experimental study with pretest-posttest single group was carried out in a research hospital's COVID-19 Paediatric Emergency Area in Turkey between May and August 2020. The sample consisted of 128 children aged between 4 and 12 years.Results: In the study, it was found that 50.8% of the children who came to the COVID-19 Paediatric Emergency Area due to suspicion of COVID-19 were boys and their mean age was 8.54 & PLUSMN; 2.62. 21.1% of the children were hospitalised before and 73.4% were afraid of the hospital. State stress scores of the participants before the patient education were higher in those, who didn't attend school between ages of 4-10, than those who went to school. State stress mean scores of the children from all age groups decreased significantly after the education.Conclusions: The video-based paediatric patient education decreases the children's hospital-related anxiety during the pandemic and increased their adherence to treatment.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1On Clinical Nurses' Views About Diversities- a Qualitative Study(Cell Press, 2024) Cakir, Hanife; Seren, Arzu Kader Harmanci; Harmanci Seren, Arzu KaderIt is a must for nurses to provide healthcare to people from diverse cultures, ethnicities, religions, and genders. This descriptive qualitative study aimed to explore nurses' approaches to various people. The study collected data via semi-structured interviews and contacted 40 nurses through snowball sampling. Most nurses were between the ages of 25-40 and female, 22 of them had postgraduate degrees, and 18 had undergraduate degrees in nursing. Only 10 of them had received special training related to diversity. MaxQda software program was used for content analyses, and four basic themes were determined respectively, "Nurses' perceptions of diversity," "Nurses' perceptions of diversity towards patients," "Nurses' perceptions of diversity towards healthcare professionals," and "Nurses' perceptions of diverse towards the institution." Participant nurses mainly revealed that although legal and organizational procedures aimed to prevent discriminative attitudes in clinical environments, discriminatory attitudes of nurses and healthcare professionals toward diverse people still occurred.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 5Disaster Risk Perception and Sustainable Earthquake Awareness Among Public and Private University Nursing Students(Wiley, 2024) Kolac, Nurcan; Eroglu, Nermin; Nirgiz, CansuBackground: This research was conducted in descriptive type to determine the disaster risk perception and sustainable earthquake awareness of nursing students studying at public and private universities. Methods: The study sample consisted of 400 nursing students studying at one public and one private university. The research was conducted between April and May 2023. The data were collected using a Sociodemographic Form, University Students Disaster Risk Perception Scale (USDRPS), and Sustainable Earthquake Awareness Scale (SEAS). Data were collected online using a questionnaire created on Google Forms. Analyses included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation values, independent groups t-test, post-hoc Tukey test, LSD, and ANOVA test. Results: Of the students, 61.8% had a disaster experience, 17.4% had lost a relative in the disaster, and 76.8% did not consider themselves prepared for a possible disaster. In the study, the exposure sub-dimension score of the disaster risk perception scale was found to be higher in students who had disaster experience than in those who did not (p = 0.032). Nursing students from the private university had higher sustainable earthquake awareness scores than those studying at the state university (p = 0.001). The mean scores of female students on the earthquake preparedness and preparation application sub-dimensions showed a significant difference compared to the scores of male students (p = 0.016). In the study, sustainable earthquake awareness total and earthquake preparedness sub-dimension scores were higher in second-year nursing students than in students of other years (p = 0.042; 0.015). Those who had received disaster training had low scores on the uncontrollable sub-dimension of the disaster risk perception scale, and high scores on the total SEAS and earthquake-structure relationship, earthquake preparedness, and earthquake preparation application sub-dimensions (p < 0.05). Conclusions: In the study, three out of four students did not find themselves prepared for disasters. Those who had disaster experience had higher disaster risk perceptions. Students who had received disaster-related training had more positive earthquake preparedness, earthquake-structure relationship, and earthquake preparation applications than those who had not. Students who were female and were in the second year had higher earthquake awareness. Studies can be carried out to inform people about the pre-disaster and preparation stages to raise awareness about disasters at universities. METHODS: The study was conducted with cross-sectional design. The data were gathered from the mothers of children with chronic diseases who were followed up at the endocrine outpatient clinic of a hospital in Istanbul between February 1, 2021, and May 31, 2021. The data were collected by conducting face-to-face interviews with mothers of 117 children through information form, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and the Coping with Stress Scale (CSS). RESULTS: It was determined that 35.9% of the mothers stated that they had problems during the pandemic since their children suffered from chronic diseases. The mean scores of the mothers were 26.88 +/- 6.69 points for the PSS and 87.35 +/- 11.04 points for the CSS and there was a negative and weak correlation between their scale scores (r = -.190; p < .05). CONCLUSION: It was found that families faced many different problems during the pandemic, such as the treatment and control of their children. In case of extraordinary situations such as pandemics, nurses should provide planned guidance and counseling services to children with chronic diseases and their families in order to manage the negative situations they experience.Article Citation - WoS: 10Citation - Scopus: 13The Relationship Between Nurses' Personality Traits and Their Perceptions of Management by Values, Organizational Justice, and Turnover Intention(Wiley, 2022) Altuntas, Serap; Seren, Arzu Kader Harmanci; Alacam, Burcu; Baykal, Ulku; Harmanci Seren, Arzu KaderPurpose To determine the relationship between nurses' personality traits and their perceptions of management by values, organizational justice, and turnover intention. Design and Methods It was a descriptive study. A demographic questionnaire, the big five personality scale, the organizational justice scale, the management by values scale, and the turnover intention scale were used to collect data. Findings Data analysis did not demonstrate any relationship between nurses' personality traits and their perceptions of management by values, organizational justice, and turnover intention. However, results of regression analysis concluded that perceptions of management by values affected the nurses' perceptions of organizational justice positively. Design and Methods This methodological study was carried out on 870 participants in Istanbul, a city with the country's highest and most diverse population. Findings Content validity, construct validity, item analyses, and stability of the draft tool were tested. The seven-factor scale structure was confirmed. Cronbach's alpha coefficient of the scale was .93. Practice Implications The Perceived Global Future Scale, consisting of 36 items and seven dimensions, was used. Background Because 'change' is an inevitable fact of today's health care environments, developing change management competencies at all levels is a must to survive and compete for the organisations and professionals in the health care systems. Methods A descriptive qualitative approach was used. The sample consisted of 18 nurses reached by using snowball sampling. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews and analysed using the Colaizzi method in the NVivo12 program. Results The results of the study were collected under three main themes: 'general approaches and initial responses to change', 'factors affecting attitudes toward change' and 'strategic mistakes made by managers during the change process'. Conclusion The study showed that nurses show different reactions to change. Their attitudes towards change could be affected positively and negatively by the relevant factors. Nurses thought that managers were making strategic mistakes during the change process. Implications for nursing management Recognizing the approaches of nurses and managers towards change and increasing awareness of the mistakes during the change process may contribute to the achievement of the change processes in health care settings.
