Article Relationship Between Resilience, Secondary Traumatic Stress and Work-Related Factors Among Mental Health Professionals(Kare Publ, 2025) Dikec, Gul; Tokatlıoglu, Tugba Sahın; Çetinkaya, Saadet; Yasar, SaadetObjectives: Resilience is the ability to maintain or rapidly recover mental health under stress. Mental health profes- sionals are often exposed to workplace stress through violence, emotional labor, restrictions, and traumatic stories. Secondary traumatic stress results from being affected by others’ traumatic experiences. Examining the relationship between resilience and secondary traumatic stress among mental health professionals is therefore essential. Methods: This descriptive study was conducted between February and April 2022. Data were collected using the Per- sonal Information Form, the Resilience Scale for Adults, and the Secondary Traumatic Stress Scale. Participants included 212 psychiatric and mental health nurses, 28 psychiatrists, 14 psychologists, and six social workers. Results: A significant positive relationship was found between resilience and secondary traumatic stress. The regres- sion model, including secondary traumatic stress, gender, educational status, willingness to work in mental health, job satisfaction, and unit of work, significantly predicted resilience. Conclusion: Secondary traumatic stress and work-related factors, such as willingness and satisfaction with working in mental health and the unit of work, were found to play an essential role in resilience. Institutional support and supervision may strengthen resilience, while reducing secondary traumatic stress can enhance motivation and well- being. Institutions are recommended to implement strategies that address these factors to improve both resilience and professional effectiveness.Article Evaluation of Dietary Habits and Related Parameters in a Group of Inpatients With Mental Disorders(Kare Publ, 2025) Dikec, Gul; Ata, Elvan Emıne; Özer, Duygu; Çalışkan, Mahinur Betül; Taliskan, Mahinur BetulObjectives: This study aimed to examine the dietary habits and related parameters of individuals with mental disorders. Methods: This study was descriptive and cross-sectional. The sample consisted of 94 individuals hospitalized in the psychiatric clinic of a hospital between June and December 2021. Data were collected using an information form cre- ated by the researchers. Results: Of the participants, 83% were male, and 25.5% had a chronic physical illness. The patients had a diagnosis of mental disorder for an average of 6.07 years. The most common side effect was an increase in appetite (36.4%). Additionally, 76.6% ate within 15 minutes, 93.6% consumed fish once a week or never, and 56.4% never exercised. In- dividuals who consumed home-cooked meals had lower BMI averages than those who consumed fast food. A weakly significant positive correlation was found between BMI and waist circumference averages and the duration of medica- tion use. Individuals with anxiety disorders had lower waist circumference, glucose, and LDL values compared to those with mood disorders. In contrast, individuals with psychotic disorders had significantly lower LDL levels than those diagnosed with mood disorders. Conclusion: Individuals with mental disorders were found to have inadequate and unbalanced nutrition, consuming diets rich in carbohydrates and low in protein, which negatively affected their parameters. Psychiatric nurses should evaluate the dietary habits of patients and provide counseling about healthy nutrition.Article Dodder (Cuscuta sp.) Extract Prevents Cognitive Deficits in a Rat Model of Hepatic Encephalopathy(Kare Publ, 2024) Cevik, Ozge; Sen, Ali; Şener, Göksel; Ercan, Feriha; Doğan, Ahmet; Özbeyli, Dilek; Hatipoğlu, Bilge Nur; Albayrak, Omercan; Koyuncuoglu, TurkanOBJECTIVE: In our study, the protective effect of dodder plant extract against encephalopathy induced by cholestatic liver disease model was investigated. METHODS: Spraque Dawley rats were used in the study. For the cholestatic liver disease model, the bile duct ligation (BDL) was applied. The groups were determined as control, Cuscuta sp. (CUS), BDL and BDL + CUS. Double ligation was performed in the bile duct in the BDL groups. For the applications, saline (SF) was administered to the control and BDL groups for 28 days while 250 mg/ kg of Cuscuta sp. extract was given by oral gavage to the CUS and BDL + CUS groups. At the end of the experiment, cognitive eval- uations were made by applying new object recognition and Morris water maze tests. After these tests, blood-brain barrier (BBB) measurements were made in half of the groups. In the other half of the groups, brain tissue samples were taken by decapitation and transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-β), 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) and sodium-potassium adenosine triphospha- tase (Na+/K+-ATPase) measurements were made in the tissues. Histological examinations of the tissues were also performed. RESULTS: Cognitive performance was low, and BBB permeability was found to be increased in the group with bile duct liga- tion. In addition, TGF-β and 8-OHdG levels were increased in tissues, while Na+/K+-ATPase enzyme activity was suppressed. Treatment with Cuscuta sp. increased cognitive performance and decreased BBB permeability. Other biochemical parameters examined were significantly (p<0.05–0.001) reversed and supported by histological findings. CONCLUSION: Our findings in the study suggest that dodder plant may be beneficial for the protection of cognitive perfor- mance and brain tissue in encephalopathy caused by cholestasis. Oxidative stress has been shown to be a contributing factor for nephrolithiasis and many agents have been studied to prevent and treat oxidative stress-related nephrolithiasis and renal damage. Myrtus communis (MC) extract has been shown to be an important antioxidant in different animal models. In this study, MC extract was administered preventively or therapeutically to rats with kidney stones, and its effectiveness was investigated. METHODS: Wistar albino rats were divided into four groups (n=8); control (C), ethylene glycol (EG), EG+preventive MC, and EG+curative MC groups. The nephrolithiasis model was created by adding 0.75% EG to drinking water for 8 weeks. Ultimately, 24-hour urine was collected to measure calcium, citrate, and creatinine levels. After decapitation, kidney tissues were harvested for histological analyses, measurement of osteopontin and 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine (8-OHdG) levels, and N-acetyl-beta-glucosaminidase (NAG), myeloperoxidase (MPO) and caspase-3 activities. RESULTS: In 24-hour urine samples, calcium, citrate and creatinine levels were decreased in the EG group, while oxalate levels were increased and in treatment groups these parameters returned to control levels. MPO, 8-OHdG, caspase-3 and NAG activity were significantly increased in tissue and these changes were reversed in both MC groups. Histological findings also supported the biochemical parameters. CONCLUSION: MC can reduce oxidative stress and histopathological changes in kidney tissues in rat nephrolithiasis model when used as either a preventive or therapeutic agent. If supported with further clinical trials, MC might have clinical implications in preventing oxidative renal cell injury and ultimately kidney stone formation.Review Citation - WoS: 6Citation - Scopus: 7Molecular Epidemiology of Carbapenem-Resistant Acinetobacter Baumannii Isolates in Turkiye: Systematic Review(Kare Publ, 2023) Kilbas, Elmas Pinar Kahraman; Kilbas, Imdat; Ciftci, Ihsan Hakki; Kahraman Kilbas, Elmas PinarThe World Health Organization has designated carbapenem-resistant Acinetobacter baumannii (CRAB) as a "critical" pathogen on the global priority list of antibiotic-resistant bacteria. This study aims to discuss the molecular epidemiology of CRAB isolates in Turkiye in the last 12 years and the prevalence of gene regions associated with resistance or pathogenesis using a systematic review method. Our study consists of a literature search, determination of eligibility and exclusion criteria, qualitative analysis of studies, data extraction, and statistical analysis. All studies were analyzed according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis Guidelines. The incidence rates of blaOXA-23, blaOXA-23-like, blaOXA-24/40, blaOXA-24/40-like, blaOXA-51, blaOXA-51-like, blaOXA-58, and blaOXA-58-like genes in CRAB strains were 76.4%, 68.6%, 1.2%, 3.4%, 97.0%, 98.6%, 8.4%, and 17.1%, respectively. It was determined that the prevalence of the blaOXA-23 and blaOXA-58 gene regions showed a statistically significant change over the years. Due to the high prevalence of A. baumannii strains carrying the blaOXA-23 variant, it is necessary to follow its geographical distribution and transposon and plasmid movements. Based on available data, molecular surveillance of CRAB strains should be standardized. In addition, sterilization and disinfection processes applied within the scope of an effective struggle against CRAB strains that can remain live on surfaces for a long time should be reviewed frequently.
