Article The Practice Environment Scale of the Nursing Work Index Short Form in Turkish: A Psychometric Study(BMC, 2026) Arici, Furkan Cihat; Harmancı Seren, Arzu Kader; Seren, Arzu Kader Harmanci; Ayan, GüzinBackgroundThe work environment is a concept encompassing factors that increase or decrease a nurse's ability to practice the nursing profession competently and provide high-quality care. This study aims to adapt the short form of the Nursing Work Index-Nursing Work Environment Assessment Scale, which is used in many countries to evaluate the nursing work environment, to Turkish.MethodsThe study sample consisted of 711 nurses. For this study, data were collected from the researchers' personal social media accounts (WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and Instagram) between October and December of 2024. The Turkish version of the short form of the Practice Environment Scale from the Nursing Work Environment Index was used to collect the data. After creating the Turkish version of the instrument through translation and back-translation and collecting data, the researchers conducted content validity analyses, construct validity tests, and internal consistency analyses to assess the instrument's psychometric properties.ResultsThe items' content validity ratios were 0.93, and correlation coefficients varied between 0.605 and 0.523. The one structure accounted for 56.122% of the total variance. PES-5 scale findings: chi & sup2;/df 3.76, CFI 0.973, TLI 0.946, SRMR 0.031, RMSEA 0.090, CR 0.62. The standardized factor loadings for the scale items ranged from 0.610 to 0.743. The scale was compatible with its five items and one-factor structure The items' standardized factor loadings ranged from 0.370 to 0.575. The Cronbach's alpha consistency value was 0.804.ConclusionA short form of the practice environment scale of the Nursing Work Index is a valid and reliable tool in Turkish.Article Citation - WoS: 10Citation - Scopus: 11The Relationship Between Critical Thinking and Job Performance Among Nurses: a Descriptive Survey Study(Wiley, 2023) Ates, Nimet; Erdal, Nurgul; Seren, Arzu Kader Harmanci; Harmancı Seren, Arzu KaderAimThis study investigated the relationship between nurses' critical thinking skills and job performance and whether critical thinking and its subdomains predict job performance. BackgroundIt is expected that nurses may use critical thinking skills to provide evidence-based quality patient care in health care settings. However, there is limited evidence about whether critical thinking is related to job performance among nurses. DesignThis was a descriptive, cross-sectional survey study. MethodsThe study included 368 nurses working in the inpatient wards of a university hospital in Turkey. The survey included a demographic information questionnaire, the Critical Thinking Scale in Clinical Practice for Nurses and the Nurses' Job Performance Scale. The collected data were analysed using descriptive statistics, comparisons, reliability and normality tests, correlation and regression analysis. ResultsParticipating nurses got average scores from the critical thinking and job performance scale and sub-scales, and there was a positive, mid-level and statistically significant correlation between the scale scores. According to the multiple linear regression analysis results, personal critical thinking, interpersonal and self-management critical thinking and the total critical thinking scores positively affected the job performance scores of nurses. ConclusionAs critical thinking predicts nurses' job performance, managers of hospitals and nursing services should consider training programs or activities to increase nurses' essential thinking competencies, thus improving clinical nurses' performances.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 4Evaluation of Psychosocial Outcomes of Living Liver Donors in Liver Transplantation(Aves, 2022) Ordin, Yaprak Sarigol; Seren, Arzu Kader Harmanci; Karayurt, Ozgul; Kul, Gulay Aksu; Kilic, Murat; Bozoklar, Cemal Ata; Tokat, Yaman; Harmancı Seren, Arzu KaderBackground: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the risk factors affecting psychosocial outcomes of living liver donors after liver transplantations. Methods: This was a descriptive, cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of living liver donors followed by 2 liver transplantation centers in 2 private hospitals in 2 different provinces, between August 2017 and October 2019. All the living liver donors were contacted without a time frame after donation and all the participants were evaluated once. The Beck Depression Scale, SF-36, General Self-Efficacy Scale, and Perceived Available Support Scale were used to collect data. The t-test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney U-test, and Pearson correlation analysis were used for data analysis. Results: The mean age of the patients was 34.31 +/- 8.22 years. There was a positive, weak correlation between age and physical function. Gender, marital status, financial status, and education levels significantly affected physical components, social function, vitality, depression, and self-efficacy scores. High depression levels negatively affected the physical component, self-efficacy, and social support scores of the living liver donors. High self-efficacy positively affected social support. Conclusion: The study revealed that gender, marital status, employment status, and education levels were associated with psychosocial outcomes. The financial status was the main factor affecting each psychosocial variable. Financial status needs to be assessed in detail before and after the operation.
