Article Empowering a Mother of Children With Autism: a Case Report on the Impact of Tele-Occupational Performance Coaching on Parent-Child Relationships, Maternal Self-Efficacy, and Occupational Performance(Routledge Journals, Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2025) Bektas, Selen Aydoner; Bumin, Gonca; Aydoner Bektas, SelenThis case report aimed at tele-occupational performance coaching to empower the mother of a child with autism spectrum disorder by enhancing occupational performance, parent-child relationships, and maternal self-efficacy. Over 8 weeks, the intervention addressed goals collaboratively identified by the mother, including self-care, productivity, and leisure-related tasks. Results revealed clinically significant improvements, with a two-point increase in Canadian Occupational Performance Measure scores for both performance and satisfaction. Significant score increases were also obtained on the Parent-Child Relationship Scale and the Early Intervention Parenting Self-Efficacy Scale. The findings underscore the effectiveness of tele-occupational performance coaching in enhancing family dynamics and parental capabilities while emphasizing the potential of telehealth as a scalable and accessible modality for delivering family-centered occupational therapy. Future research should expand on these findings by incorporating diverse populations and assessing long-term outcomes.Article Perceived Stress and Performance of Daily Activities Among Emergency Healthcare Workers During the COVID-19 Pandemic(Sage Publications Ltd, 2025) Yücel, Hülya; Bektas, Selen AydonerBackground: During the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare workers were exposed to intense stress in the emergency departments and sudden changes in their daily lives. Objective: The study aimed to investigate the impact of the pandemic on performance and participation in the activities of daily living, personal lives, and overall well-being of the healthcare workers in an emergency department. Methods: Seventy-eight people working in an emergency department of a university hospital (100% of those eligible) participated in the study during June-July 2022. A self-report survey, cross-sectional design was used to collect data. Participants completed the Perceived Stress Scale-10 (PSS) and the Canadian Occupational Performance Measure (COPM). Independent sample t-tests, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis were used for statistical analysis. Results: There was a significant negative correlation between PSS and COPM Performance (r = −0.524) as well as between PSS and COPM Satisfaction (r = −0.508), indicating that higher levels of stress were associated with lower performance and satisfaction. In addition, work-related factors, including working experience, daily working hours, and time available for rest at work, were significantly associated with PSS, COPM Performance, and Satisfaction (p < 0.05). The strongest multivariate associations (p = 0.001) were found between lacking time to rest at work and PSS (direct) and COPM Performance and Satisfaction (inverse). Conclusion: The stress experienced by emergency healthcare workers during COVID-19 negatively impacted their performance, daily activities, personal lives, and well-being. A potential implication is that policy-makers addressing work-related factors and implementing regulations could improve the well-being of these workers in their professional practices. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 1Examining the Sensory Processing Skills and Occupational Performance of People With Multiple Sclerosis(Taylor & Francis inc, 2024) Aydoner, Selen; Bumin, GoncaThis study aimed to compare sensory processing skills and occupational performance between participants with multiple sclerosis and healthy controls. Eighty participants were enrolled in this study, 40 with multiple sclerosis and 40 with healthy controls. Participants were between 18 and 65 years of age and asked to complete the Adult Sensory Profile, and Canadian Occupational Performance Measure. The findings of the study revealed that participants with multiple sclerosis had a lower ability to register sensory input, a higher sensory sensitivity, and avoidance, as well as lower levels of performance and satisfaction in their daily occupations, compared to the healthy controls (p < 0.05). People with multiple sclerosis often experience difficulties with sensory processing and occupational performance in daily life. More research and practice are needed on the role of sensory processing and occupational performance in daily life in people with multiple sclerosis.
