The quantity and quality of nursing care are affected by the physical conditions of the workplace, support services, information systems, administrative practices, training and experience of nurses, care delivery models, and the number of nurses in the unit. Many criteria have been developed considering these different variables. These criteria are used in line with the health policies of each country. However, still there are many nurses unemployed and looking for an appropriate job. Therefore, this descriptive study aimed to examine unemployment reasons among nurses in Turkey. The study collected data from 266 unemployed nurses through an online questionnaire included demographic, socioeconomic, professional, and working characteristics, job expectations, and reasons for unemployment. Descriptive statistics were used in data analysis. The study findings revealed that the nurses thought they were unemployed due to a lack of information exchange between educational institutions and health labor markets, low wages, and intense workload. © 2024 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
