The Impact of Interaction Between Verteporfin and Yes-Associated Protein 1/Transcriptional Coactivator With Pdz-Binding Motif-Tea Domain Pathway on the Progression of Isocitrate Dehydrogenase Wild-Type Glioblastoma
(Sage Publications Ltd, 2023) Osama, Mahmoud; Essibayi, Muhammed Amir; Osama, Mona; Ibrahim, Ismail A.; Mostafa, Mostafa Nasr; Eksi, Murat Sakir; Şakir Ekşi, Murat; Nasr Mostafa, Mostafa
Verteporfin and 5-ALA are used for visualizing malignant tissue components in different body tumors and as photodynamic therapy in treating isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) wild-type glioblastoma (GBM). Additionally, verteporfin interferes with Yes-associated protein 1 (YAP)/Transcriptional coactivator with PDZ-binding motif - TEA domain (TAZ-TEAD) pathway, thus inhibiting the downstream effect of these oncogenes and reducing the malignant properties of GBM. Animal studies have shown verteporfin to be successful in increasing survival rates, which have led to the conduction of phase 1 and 2 clinical trials to further investigate its efficacy in treating GBM. In this article, we aimed to review the novel mechanism of verteporfin's action, the impact of its interaction with YAP/TAZ-TEAD, its effect on glioblastoma stem cells, and its role in inducing ferroptosis.

The Best Whey Protein Powder Selection Via Vikor Based on Circular Intuitionistic Fuzzy Sets
(Mdpi, 2023) Buyukselcuk, Elif Caloglu; Sari, Yigit Can; Çaloğlu Büyükselçuk, Elif
People try very hard to have a symmetrical, strong, and beautiful body. The human body needs high amino acids for muscle protein synthesis. Whey protein is a good choice that contains all amino acids, which increases muscle protein synthesis and improves body shape with resistance exercise. For this reason, those who do sports, especially professionals, prefer to use these products frequently. A large number of commercial whey protein powders are sold on the market, and to achieve maximum purpose, individuals want to use the best one. Intuitionistic fuzzy sets are used in order to minimize the negative effects of the uncertainty environment and ambiguous information encountered in the decision-making process on the solution. In this study, VIKOR, based on the circular intuitionistic fuzzy set, has been used to determine the best whey protein supplement. In line with the comprehensive literature review and expert opinions, the evaluation criteria affecting the selection process have been determined, and the solution of the problem has been focused.

Experiences of Hearing Parents of Children With Hearing Loss: a Qualitative Study
(Mdpi, 2023) Dikec, Gul; Turk, Eda; Yuksel, Esin; Celebi, Kubra; Ozdemir, Meltem
This qualitative study was carried out with a phenomenological design to determine the life experiences of the parents of children with hearing loss. The study sample consisted of twenty parents, who did not have hearing loss, of children with hearing loss registered in a special education and rehabilitation center. The data were collected through in-depth interviews in Istanbul between December and January 2022. Colaizzi's phenomenological interpretation method was used for qualitative data analysis. It was determined that parents of children with hearing loss experienced anxiety, sadness, and happiness during diagnosis. They needed more information at first, but then they gained knowledge in the process, and it took work to accept this process. They stated that having a child with hearing loss requires more time, responsibility, and effort than other children. This situation affects their social life, and they experience interpersonal conflicts. When parents were asked how they coped, they said they did it through prayer, social support, or time to themselves. It can be recommended to apply psychosocial intervention programs to the parents of children with hearing loss, especially their mothers, from the first diagnosis process.

Monkeypox Post-Covid Knowledge, Worrying, and Vaccine Adoption in the Arabic General Population
(Mdpi, 2023) Swed, Sarya; Bohsas, Haidara; Alibrahim, Hidar; Rakab, Amine; Hafez, Wael; Sawaf, Bisher; Sah, Ranjit
Background: The outbreak of monkeypox was declared a global public health emergency by the World Health Organization on 23 July 2022. There have been 60,000 cases reported worldwide, most of which are in places where monkeypox has never been seen due to the travel of people who have the virus. This research aims to evaluate the general Arabic population in regard to the monkeypox disease, fears, and vaccine adoption after the WHO proclaimed a monkeypox epidemic and to compare these attitudes to those of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: This cross-sectional study was performed in some Arabic countries (Syria, Egypt, Qatar, Yemen, Jordan, Sudan, Algeria, and Iraq) between 18 August and 7 September 2022. The inclusion criteria were the general public residing in Arabic nations and being older than 18. This questionnaire has 32 questions separated into three sections: sociodemographic variables, prior COVID-19 exposure, and COVID-19 vaccination history. The second portion assesses the knowledge and anxieties about monkeypox, while the third section includes the generalized anxiety disorder (GAD7) scale. Logistic regression analyses were performed to compute the adjusted odds ratios (aOR) and their confidence intervals (95%CI) using STATA (version 17.0). Results: A total of 3665 respondents from 17 Arabic countries were involved in this study. Almost two-thirds (n = 2427, 66.2%) of the participants expressed more worry about COVID-19 than monkeypox diseases. Regarding the major cause for concern about monkeypox, 39.5% of participants attributed their anxiety to the fear that they or a member of their family may contract the illness, while 38.4% were concerned about monkeypox becoming another worldwide pandemic. According to the GAD 7 score, 71.7% of the respondents showed very low anxiety toward monkeypox and 43.8% of the participants scored poor levels of knowledge about monkeypox disease. Participants with previous COVID-19 infection showed a 1.206 times greater acceptance to receive the monkeypox vaccine than those with no previous infection. A 3.097 times higher concern for monkeypox than COVID-19 was shown by the participants who perceived monkeypox as dangerous and virulent than those who did not. Participants who have a chronic disease (aOR: 1.32; 95%CI: 1.09-1.60); participants worried about monkeypox (aOR: 1.21; 95%CI: 1.04-1.40), and perceived monkeypox as a dangerous and virulent disease (aOR: 2.25; 95%CI: 1.92-2.65); and excellent knowledge level (aOR: 2.28; 95%CI: 1.79-2.90) have emerged as significant predictors. Conclusions: Our study reported that three-fourths of the participants were more concerned about COVID-19 than monkeypox disease. In addition, most of the participants have inadequate levels of knowledge regarding monkeypox disease. Hence, immediate action should be taken to address this problem. Consequently, learning about monkeypox and spreading information about its prevention is crucial.

Whey Protein Concentrate Ameliorates the Methotrexate-Induced Liver and Kidney Damage
(Cambridge Univ Press, 2023) Tufan, Elif; Sivas, Guezin Goksun; Gurel-Gokmen, Begum; Yilmaz-Karaoglu, Suemeyye; Dursun, Ercan; Caliskan-Ak, Esin; Tunali-Akbay, Tugba; Yllmaz-Karaoǧlu, SÜmeyye; Çallşkan-Ak, Esin
Methotrexate (MTX) is a cytotoxic immunosuppressant that is widely used in the treatment of tumours, rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. This study aims to evaluate the effects of whey proteins on MTX-induced liver and kidney damage by focusing on oxidant-antioxidant systems and eating habits. The study was conducted in four groups of thirty Sprague-Dawley rats (control, control + whey protein concentrate (WPC), MTX, MTX + WPC). A single dose of 20 mg/kg MTX was administered intraperitoneally to the MTX groups. Control and MTX groups were given 2 g/kg WPC by oral gavage every day for 10 d. At the end of day 10, blood samples were drawn and liver and kidney tissues were removed. MTX administration increased the lipid peroxidation level and decreased glutathione level, superoxide dismutase and glutathione-S-transferase activities in the liver and kidney. Administration of WPC significantly reduced the damage caused by MTX in the liver and kidney. While a decrease in serum urea level and an increase in serum creatinine level were detected in the MTX group, WPC administration reversed these results up to control group levels. Administration of WPC to the MTX group significantly reversed the histopathological damage scores of the liver and kidney. WPC administration ameliorated the MTX-induced oxidative damage in the liver and kidney tissues due to its antioxidant properties. Liver and kidney damage can be prevented by using whey proteins as a nutraceutical in MTX therapy. In conclusion, whey proteins demonstrated a protective effect against MTX-induced liver and kidney damage.

The Effect of an Educational Peer-Based Intervention Program on Sexual and Reproductive Health Behavior
(Wiley, 2024) Ogul, Zeynep; Sahin, Nevin Hotun
IntroductionThe fact that adolescent people experience risky sexual behavior and have insufficient knowledge of sexual and reproductive health (SRH) indicates the need for SRH education. This study investigates the impact of peer-educated SRH programs on the knowledge and behaviors of adolescents.MethodThis study was conducted as a randomized controlled trial on 275 university students. The subjects were randomly assigned to the peer educators (n = 25), intervention (n = 125) and control (n = 125) groups using systematic random sampling. Peer educators provided face-to-face SRH education to the intervention group. The researcher provided the same education to the control group via the online conference method. SRH knowledge and behavior evaluated with scales before, after, and 3 and 6 months after the SRH education. The obtained data were analyzed using SPSS version 25 through statistical tests and analysis of covariance.ResultsThe female and male ratio of the participants was almost equal (49.4%, 50.6%). The mean age was found to be 20.42 +/- 1.14 years. The mean scores of the students in the intervention group increased from 21.20 +/- 0.14 to 35.20 +/- 0.07 for sexual health knowledge questionnaire (SHKQ), and from 130.56 +/- 0.55 to 147,90 +/- 0,25 for reproductive health scale (RHS) after the education. Compared with the control group, these increases in the mean scores of SHKQ and RHS were found to be statistically significant.ConclusionThe findings show the important role of the SRH peer education method on the effect of transferring knowledge about sexual behaviors. Health and education policy-makers are advised to implicate SRH peer education.

Drawing Transmission Graphs for Covid-19 in the Perspective of Network Science
(Cambridge Univ Press, 2020) Gursakal, N.; Batmaz, B.; Aktuna, G.
When we consider a probability distribution about how many COVID-19-infected people will transmit the disease, two points become important. First, there could be super-spreaders in these distributions/networks and second, the Pareto principle could be valid in these distributions/networks regarding estimation that 20% of cases were responsible for 80% of local transmission. When we accept that these two points are valid, the distribution of transmission becomes a discrete Pareto distribution, which is a kind of power law. Having such a transmission distribution, then we can simulate COVID-19 networks and find super-spreaders using the centricity measurements in these networks. In this research, in the first we transformed a transmission distribution of statistics and epidemiology into a transmission network of network science and second we try to determine who the super-spreaders are by using this network and eigenvalue centrality measure. We underline that determination of transmission probability distribution is a very important point in the analysis of the epidemic and determining the precautions to be taken.
