Acute Serious Hepatitis of Unknown Cause in Children
(Galenos Publishing House, 2022) Kılbaş, E.P.K.; Altındiş, M.
On April 5, 2022, an increase in cases of acute hepatitis of unknown etiology was reported in previously healthy children under the age of 10 in the United Kingdom. Since there is no link between these patients, called acute non-HepA-E hepatitis, and viral hepatitis agents (hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E), the possible etiology, and pathogenesis of this emergency is being investigated. One of the alarming features of this epidemic is the high requirement for liver transplantation in a fraction of the cases. In cases other than hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E, a case definition is made by looking at a series of clinical pictures, including serum transaminase levels and age. As of August 26, 2022, 513 cases of acute hepatitis have been reported in Europe and 1,010 globally. Adenovirus was detected in 75% of cases tested in the UK, but data for other countries are still lacking. The role of other etiologic agents is still under investigation. The exact disease pathogenesis has not yet clear. Evidence of human-to-human transmission of the disease remains unclear. Epidemiological studies are critical in clarifying the uncertainties regarding the existence of links between the cases reported to date. Continuing the national and international surveillance activities of the countries in an organized manner is the most basic issue required for the elimination of the epidemic. Using Media by Nurses: a Case of Novel Coronavirus Disease
(Association of Executive Nurses, 2021) Kaya, A.; Seren, A.K.H.
The term “media” used to explain the mass media provides the transmission of messages and information regarding the society. According to the researches, media has an important power in influencing the masses in terms of public interests and policies. By addressing the media as a priority, through individual or professional organizations, nurses can be effective in exposing the profession’s image in the media and policy issues affecting the profession. A more consistent approach to presenting nursing research to the public and using the media for this purpose will enable the public to perceive nursing as it is and support the use of research. In this review, basic knowledge tried to be provided by the nurses about what to do through the media and, the actions taken in the media related to the novel coronavirus disease which emerged first at the end of 2019 in Wuhan Province of China and in March 2020 in Turkey, were examined. © 2021 SHYD.

Nurse Employment In Some Countries In The World And In Turkey
(Association of Executive Nurses, 2023) Soydaş, K.; Harmancı Seren, A.K.; Seren, Arzu Kader Harmancı
For a well-functioning health system, employing a sufficient number of appropriately qualified nurses is essential. The quantity and quality of nursing care are affected by the physical conditions of the workplace, support services, information systems, administrative practices, training and experience of nurses, care delivery models, and the number of nurses in the unit. Many criteria have been developed considering these different variables. These criteria are used in line with the health policies of each country. The aim of this review is to offer a framework for the employment policies of nurses in the world and Turkey. © 2023 The Authors.

Radioprotective Effect of Resveratrol for Early and Late Ionizing Radiation-Induced Damages on Colon and Rectum in Rats
(Marmara Univ, 2023) Beceren, Ayfer; Aydemir, Sezgin; Atasoy, Beste Melek; Esin, A. K.; Ercan, Feriha; Sener, T. Emre; Sener, Goksel; Ak, Esin; Emre Şener, T.
Radiotherapy, which is routinely used to treat a wide range of oncological disorders, primarily affects the malignant tissue in the targeted area, but also have negative effects in the surrounding tissues. Pelvic radiotherapy causes early and late effects on the colon and rectum. Resveratrol (RVT) has been revealed to have a number of pharmacological effects in a variety of experimental models and clinical circumstances, therefore it has piqued the interest of scientists in recent years. In this study, we aimed to investigate the potential protective effects of resveratrol (RVT), a strong antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anti-mutagenic agent, against toxicity of colonic and rectal tissues seen in the early and late stages after pelvic radiation. The treatment durations of the current study were designed as one week and ten weeks interval by following radiation exposure. Sprague Dawley rats were divided into 5 groups (8 animals/group) as the control, radiation-early effects (Rd-E), radiation-late effects (Rd-L), and RVT-treated Rd-E (Rd-E+RVT) and RVT-treated Rd-L (Rd-L+RVT) groups. Ionizing radiation was performed to the pelvic area that covers colon and rectum in single fraction of 20 Gy in a linear accelerator using with 6 MV photon energy. RVT was orally administered (10 mg/kg/day) immediately following the radiation exposure and continued daily for 1 and 10 weeks for early and late groups, respectively. Pelvic radiation caused a significant decrease in glutathione level, while malondialdehyde levels, myeloperoxidase activity and 8-hydroxydeoxyguanosine were increased in both Rd-E and Rd -L groups in the colon and rectum tissues. Additionally, light microscopic evaluations (H & E staining) revealed degeneration of epithelium and inflammatory cell infiltration in the colonic and rectal tissues in radiation groups. RVT treatment reversed all conducted biochemical parameters and ameliorated histomorphological changes following early and late effects of pelvic radiation in tissues. In conclusion, resveratrol may be a candidate as a radioprotector for normal tissues during and after radiotherapy.
