In this study, grounded theory and in-depth interviews are used as a qualitative research method, beauty bullying is defined with the movie Mean Girls, and the "tween jargon" that can be clearly seen in social media is reflected in the spoken language. For example, words and abbreviations used by children such as tag, "break my scale", "send ss/dm", "bro/sis", "feno", "efso" are also used in daily language. As a result, the expression of tween jargon with the way of life of these children determines the increase of beauty cyberbullying, competition and language degeneration of this new girl culture. In addition, it is predicted that this study will contribute not only to the corruption of language but also literature in terms of childhood degeneration. © 2021 Cyprus International University. Method: Using the keyword 'schizophrenia,' Turkish tweets were gathered from the Python Tweepy application between December 19, 2020 and January 18, 2021. Features were extracted using the Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) method and artificial neural networks and tweets were classified as positive, neutral, or negative. Approximately 5% of the tweets were qualitatively analyzed, constituting those most frequently liked and retweeted. Results: The study found that, of the total of 3406 schizophrenia-related messages shared in Turkey over a period of one-month, 2996 were original, and were then retweeted a total of 1823 times, and liked by 25,413 people. It was determined that 63.4% of the tweets shared about schizophrenia contained negative emotions, 28.7% were neutral, and 7.71% expressed positive emotions. Within the scope of the qualitative analysis, 145 tweets were examined and classified under four main themes and two sub-themes; namely, news about violent patients, insult (insulting people in interpersonal relationships, insulting people in the news), mockery, and information. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that the Turkish tweets about schizophrenia, which were emotionally analyzed using artificial intelligence were found often to contain negative emotions. It was also seen that Twitter users used the term schizophrenia, not in a medical sense but to insult and make fun of individuals, frequently shared the news that patients were victims or perpetrators of violence, and the messages shared by professional branch organizations or mental health professionals were primarily for conveying information to the public.Article Relationship Between Coronaphobia, Cognitive Functions, Sleep Quality, and Diet Quality in Older Adults During Covid-19(Galenos Publ House, 2024) Balci, Leyla Atas; Polat, Selda; Coskunsu, Dilber Karagoezoglu; Altuncevahir, Ilayda; Koc, Bilge Meral; Ozkul, EcenurObjective: The relationship between the quality of diet and sleep, cognitive function, and fear related to coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) among older adults in Turkey during the pandemic remains unclear. This study aimed to investigate the correlation between diet quality, cognitive function, sleep quality, and levels of coronaphobia in individuals aged 65 and above, to understand the impact of COVID-19. Materials and Methods: Sleep quality, diet quality, coronaphobia, and cognitive status of 72 older individuals were evaluated using the Pittsburgh sleep quality index, healthy eating index 2010, Montreal cognitive assessment scale, and coronavirus-19 phobia scale, respectively. Results: The participants had poor diet quality (54.2%), poor sleep quality (62.5%), obesity (41.7%), higher levels of coronaphobia, and cognitive impairment. There was a moderate negative relationship between sleep quality and coronaphobia and between cognitive status and coronaphobia (p <= 0.00); and a weak positive relationship between diet quality and cognitive status (p<0.05). However, no relationship was found between sleep quality and diet quality, and between coronaphobia and diet quality (p>0.05). Conclusion: Our study highlights the significant challenges faced by older adults during the COVID-19 pandemic, including poor nutrition quality, sleep disturbances, coronaphobia, and cognitive impairment. Our findings suggest a potential interplay between nutrition quality, sleep patterns, and cognitive function among older adults, with those experiencing coronaphobia exhibiting additional cognitive and sleep-related concerns. We advocate the implementation of targeted interventions aimed at mitigating cognitive impairment, addressing nutritional deficiencies, and improving sleep quality among older adults, irrespective of COVID-19 infection status, to enhance overall well-being during these challenging times.Article Citation - WoS: 9Citation - Scopus: 7RELATIONSHIP OF DAILY TIME SPENT OUTDOORS WITH SLEEP QUALITY AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING AMONG COMMUNITY-DWELLING OLDER ADULTS DURING COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS(Gunes Kitabevi Ltd Sti, 2021) Sansal, Kenan Eren; Balci, Leyla Atas; Cinar, Fadime; Coskunsu, Dilber Karagozoglu; Tanriover, Sezin Hatice; Uluengin, Mehmet BenguIntroduction: Given the recent constraints imposed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the importance of the daily light-dark cycle for entraining the human circadian system, it is possible to state that the elderly are likely to be at serious risk of experiencing sleep-related problems. Whilst reduced or limited time outdoors, and thus, exposure to diurnal bright light appear to be detrimental to sleep and emotional well-being in old age, further research is required to confirm this relationship. Materials and Method: To build on earlier work, a two-week study was conducted in a sample of 79 community-dwelling older adults recruited by using snowball sampling method. Throughout the study, the participants were allowed to be outdoors from 10.00 a.m. to 1.00 p.m. on weekdays. Whilst the participants were performing their daily habitual activities, they were asked to keep an activity diary and report on their sleep quality and emotional wellbeing using two questionnaires. Results: The results demonstrated that participants' daily time spent outdoors (49.13 minutes on average) positively correlated with their perceived sleep quality and emotional well-being at various - but significant - levels (p<0.05). Moreover, significant negative correlations were identified between participants' sleep quality and experienced emotional disturbances (p<0.001). Conclusion: Based on the research findings, it is reasonable to conclude that spending momentary periods outdoors may have adverse consequences for the elderly. To maintain a healthy sleep-wake cycle and alleviate related emotional problems in old age, increasing outdoor time and diurnal bright light exposure should be encouraged.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Functional Features and Benefits of Residential Gardens: the Case of Istanbul (european Side)(Aves, 2022) Bozkurt, Selvinaz Gulcin; Yener, Serife Doganay; Akdeniz, Nilufer SeyidogluThis article investigates the extent to which residential gardens affect human welfare in Istanbul (the European side). The developing technology, population growth, and immigration are factors which expose the city of Istanbul to intense construction. Consequently, the gardens in the houses located at the center of Istanbul are decreasing day by day, limiting outdoor activities for the residents, and affecting them physically and mentally. In this study, a questionnaire was applied to 400 people in Istanbul's European side to investigate the extent to which residential gardens affect human well-being. These questionnaires were applied according to five-point Likert scales and the results were analyzed in the SPSS program by applying correlation analysis. The data obtained from the applied questionnaires were analyzed in the SPSS program. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that residential gardens have a positive influence on the physical and psychological development of people, and also contribute to the protection of nature and biological diversity. Statistically, it has been determined that people mostly use their gardens in the summer months (49.30%) and on the weekends, and spend an average of 0-2 hours (57.50%) in their gardens. In addition, these analyses were associated with participant characteristics such as age (18-25, 26-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 60 and older), gender (female/male), socioeconomic status (occupation and income) and social demography (change in population). As a result, this study showed that residential gardens in urban areas contribute significantly to people and nature, that more garden areas should be added to the residences to be built in urban areas, and that these areas should be designed in a functional and sustainable way for people to benefit from nature in the best way.Article Design and Implementation of a Low Cost and Portable Tactile Stimulator Br(Tubitak Scientific & Technological Research Council Turkey, 2022) Kazma, Coskun; Levent, Vecdi Emre; Cardak, Merve; Aydin, NizamettinWhen central nervous system has a problem, somatic area I and II respond to stimulation differently. Therefore, it is possible to identify some of the central nervous diseases when somatosensory on the fingertip is stimulated and responses are recorded and analyzed. We designed a system to stimulate the mechanoreceptors on fingertips. It is composed of a mechanical system for fingertip stimulation, an embedded controller, a control computer, and a software to control overall operation.
