Review Citation Count: 15Appraising Systematic Reviews: a Comprehensive Guide To Ensuring Validity and Reliability(Frontiers Media Sa, 2023) Shaheen, Nour; Shaheen, Ahmed; Ramadan, Alaa; Hefnawy, Mahmoud Tarek; Ramadan, Abdelraouf; Ibrahim, Ismail A.; Flouty, OliverSystematic reviews play a crucial role in evidence-based practices as they consolidate research findings to inform decision-making. However, it is essential to assess the quality of systematic reviews to prevent biased or inaccurate conclusions. This paper underscores the importance of adhering to recognized guidelines, such as the PRISMA statement and Cochrane Handbook. These recommendations advocate for systematic approaches and emphasize the documentation of critical components, including the search strategy and study selection. A thorough evaluation of methodologies, research quality, and overall evidence strength is essential during the appraisal process. Identifying potential sources of bias and review limitations, such as selective reporting or trial heterogeneity, is facilitated by tools like the Cochrane Risk of Bias and the AMSTAR 2 checklist. The assessment of included studies emphasizes formulating clear research questions and employing appropriate search strategies to construct robust reviews. Relevance and bias reduction are ensured through meticulous selection of inclusion and exclusion criteria. Accurate data synthesis, including appropriate data extraction and analysis, is necessary for drawing reliable conclusions. Meta-analysis, a statistical method for aggregating trial findings, improves the precision of treatment impact estimates. Systematic reviews should consider crucial factors such as addressing biases, disclosing conflicts of interest, and acknowledging review and methodological limitations. This paper aims to enhance the reliability of systematic reviews, ultimately improving decision-making in healthcare, public policy, and other domains. It provides academics, practitioners, and policymakers with a comprehensive understanding of the evaluation process, empowering them to make well-informed decisions based on robust data.Conference Object Citation Count: 1Design and Development of a New Tactile Stimulator(Ieee, 2019) Levent, Vecdi Emre; Levent, Vecdi Emre; Aydin, Nizamettin; Bilgisayar Mühendisliği BölümüWe have designed and implement a tactile stimulator to obtain information from the central nervous system. Our system consists of two main components. The first one is tactile stimulator, which was designed to stimulate index and middle finger tips, stimulating mechanoreceptors according to the test protocol. Second one is a personal computer running a desktop software for the implementation of test protocols. The flow is as follows; the subjects are asked the question of the test protocol through the personal computer. The parameters are then transmitted to the embedded board on the machine. The embedded board drives step motors to apply the relevant test parameters. The desktop software expects the individual to answer the question using the right or the left mouse button of the computer mouse. After answering the relevant question, the test proceeds to the next step. According to the test protocol, the stimulation process of the mechanoreceptors located at the index and middle finger tips must start and terminate at the same time. From this perspective, the embedded board with 3 18F46K22 PIC microcontrollers produces 2 square wave signals with different frequencies and amplitudes at the same time. The embedded system card developed with the PIC microcontroller is also developed with FPGA. The system has also been tested on 24 blue and white collar employees and a significant result has been obtained.Article Citation Count: 0Do We Learn To Internalize Stigma From Our Parents? Comparison of Internalized Stigmatization in Adolescents Diagnosed With Adhd and Their Parents(Mdpi, 2022) Dikeç, Gül; Bilac, Oznur; Kardelen, Cansin; Sapmaz, Sermin Yalin; Hemşirelik BölümüThis study compared internalized stigmatization levels of adolescents diagnosed with attention deficit and hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) with those of their parents. The study's data were collected from 107 adolescents diagnosed with ADHD and their parents between July 2020 and March 2021. The adolescents were followed up in the child and adolescent psychiatry outpatient clinic of a university hospital in western Turkey. The information forms for adolescents and parents, the Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale-Adolescent Form (ISMI-AF) and the Parental Internalized Stigma of Mental Illness Scale (PISMI), were used to collect the data. There was no statistically significant difference between the total scores of internalized stigma and subscale mean scores of the adolescents and their parents (p > 0.05); only the subscale scores for stereotype endorsement were found to be significantly different (p < 0.05). PISMI scores affected ISMI-AF scores, which can be interpreted as parents' perspectives and attitudes toward stigmatization affecting adolescents. For ADHD, whose frequency is increasing daily, intervention studies should be conducted to reduce adolescents' and parents' internalized stigma and to enhance the educational outcomes of adolescents.Article Citation Count: 1The Effect of Whey Proteins on the Brain and Small Intestine Nitric Oxide Levels: Protein Profiles in Methotrexate-Induced Oxidative Stress(Istanbul Univ, 2022) Yılmaz Karaoğlu, Sümeyye; Tufan, Elif; Sivas, Guzin Goksun; Gokmen, Begum Gurel; Dursun, Ercan; Ozbeyli, Dilek; Tunali-Akbay, Tugba; Eczane Hizmetleri BölümüObjectives: The aim of this study was to determine the effects of whey proteins on methotrexate (MTX)-induced brain and small intestine damage. Materials and Methods: 30 Sprague Dawley rats (200-300 g) were divided into four groups: Control, control + whey, MTX, and MTX+whey. MTX was administered at 20 mg/kg (single dose) intraperitoneally to the MTX group rats, and 2 mg/kg of whey protein were administered by oral gavage for 10 days to the whey groups. Lipid peroxidation, glutathione, and nitric oxide (NO) levels, as well as glutathione-Stransferase and superoxide dismutase activities were measured in the brain and small intestine. SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of the brain and intestine tissues were also carried out. Results: While MTX treatment caused oxidative damage in the brain and small intestine, whey protein administration ameliorated MTXinduced oxidative stress. MTX administration did not change the brain's NO level, while an increase in intestinal NO level was detected. Conclusion: MTX induced oxidative stress in the brain and small intestine changed the protein metabolism in these tissues regardless of reduced food intake. Consecutive 10-day administration of whey proteins has shown its therapeutic effect on MTX-induced brain and small intestine oxidative damage.Article Citation Count: 0The Effects Of Panax Ginseng on Serum Oxidative Stress Following Bisphenol a Exposure(Istanbul Univ, 2024) Ede Pazarbaşı, Seren; Şener, Göksel; Dorucu, Dogancan; Sener, Goksel; Tunali-Akbay, Tugba; Eczane Hizmetleri Bölümü; Eczacılık Meslek Bilimleri BölümüObjective: Bisphenol A (BPA) is a toxic compound that causes oxidative stress by disrupting antioxidant enzymes and promoting tissue lipid peroxidation. This study aimed to examine the impacts of BPA on serum oxidative stress in rats and to detect the antioxidant feature of Panax ginseng (PxG) in reducing BPA-induced oxidative stress. Materials and Methods: Wistar Albino rats (250-300 g) were divided into control, control + PxG, BPA, and BPA + PxG groups. 50 mg/kg BPA and 100 mg/g PxG were given for six weeks. Serum total antioxidant and oxidant status, lipid peroxidation, and glutathione levels were determined. Results: BPA administration increased total oxidant status and lipid peroxidation, while PxG administration to the BPA group decreased these parameters. PxG also increased total antioxidant status and glutathione levels compared to the BPA group. Conclusion: BPA was seen to cause an increase in oxidative parameters and PxG administration to restore the oxidative stress that was generated after BPA exposure, suggesting that this may help to prevent the adverse effects caused by BPA exposure.Article Citation Count: 0Evaluation of Growth in Children Aged One- Two Years: a Cross- Sectional Study(Istanbul Univ, 2022) Garipağaoğlu Denizhan, Muazzez; Simsek, Tugce; Garipagaoglu, Muazzez; Beslenme ve Diyetetik BölümüObjective: The study was conducted to evaluate growth in children aged 1-2 years. Methods: In this study conducted with 302 children and their mothers, data on children and their families were obtained using a questionnaire. Z-scores were determined by measuring the weight and height of the children, and these were compared with percentile curves developed for Turkish children. Energy and macronutrient consumption were determined by taking a daily food consumption record for each child. Results: The average age, birth weight and height of children were 18.6 +/- 3.2 months, 3.2 +/- 0.5 kg and 50.0 +/- 2.3 cm, respectively. Their current weight and height were determined as 11.4 +/- 1.6 kg and 80.6 +/- 6.5 cm. It was observed that 85.6% of the children had normal body weight, 69.5% normal BMI and 56.2% normal height z score. It has been determined that body weight and height z-scores are higher in girls compared to boys (22.1%, 32.6% and 24.7% respectively in + 2SD). Body weights of children with high monthly income were also found to be significantly higher (15.6% in + 2SD, p=0.038). Conclusions: It has been concluded that the standards, gender and the economic status of the family in this age period are effective on childrens' growth.Book Part Citation Count: 0Evaluation of Labor Market Issues in Sport and Exercise Environment in Turkey(Routledge, 2021) Ersoz, Gozde; Ersöz, Gözde; Beden Eğitimi ve Spor Bölümü[No Abstract Available]Conference Object Citation Count: 0Fpga Based Dco-Ofdm Phy Transceiver for Vlc Systems(Ieee, 2019) Levent, Vecdi Emre; Saglam, Gurol; Ugurdag, H. Fatih; Annafianto, Nur Fajar Rizqi; Aydin, Furkan; Tesfay, Shewit Weldu; Uysal, Murat; Bilgisayar Mühendisliği BölümüSatisfying the demand for high bandwidth and low latency in Visible Light Communication (VLC) systems is a difficult challenge. VLC channels exhibit frequency-selectiveness at peak-speeds. This phenomenon generates a serious inter-symbol interference effect. A physical layer (PHY) design that can carry out physical layer communication tasks to overcome all these strains is required. In this study, an FPGA based PHY design that implements DCO-OFDM algorithm is described for VLC systems. A demo was performed with the developed PHY design using an LED transmitter and a photodetector receiver.Book Part Citation Count: 0Marketing Ethics and Ethical Issues Related To Marketing Communication(Springer-verlag Singapore Pte Ltd, 2018) Sayil, Emine Mediha[No Abstract Available]Conference Object Citation Count: 0Parametric Trigger Signal Generation With Microcontroller and Fpga Based Architectures(Ieee, 2019) Levent, Vecdi Emre; Levent, Vecdi Emre; Aydin, Nizamettin; Bilgisayar Mühendisliği BölümüA new system to obtain information from the central nervous system has been developed. ABasic design education and its content have different dimensions from the education system the student previously received due to its structure and difficulty comprehending because it contains new literature for the student and often has abstract educational content. On the other hand, the students have difficulty perceiving the information acquired in this course and question how they can benefit from it in the following years and professional life. ATherefore, the aim of the study is to analyze the basic design principles through modern architectural structures. In the study created by qualitative research method, the data were obtained by analyzing the principles mentioned in the determined examples. These examples were selected among the Bauhaus and later modern buildings by considering the role of the Bauhaus school, where the basic design principles emerged in the spread of modern architecture, and the scope of the study was created. As a result of the study, concrete uses and equivalents of basic design principles were revealed with the determined examples. Thus, data on how students will benefit from basic design principles have been revealed.Conference Object Citation Count: 1Solving the Sales Problem of a Poultry Meat Company With Thinking Process(Future Acad, 2019) Birgün, Semra; Aydin, Selman; Birgun, Semra; Endüstri Mühendisliği BölümüThe use of new technology in order to achieve real improvement and to increase productivity in a business can be effective in the long term only through the correct analysis of the current status of the business. After the current status is detected, the improvement studies should be continued towards the existing constraints and the studies for eliminating new constraints that will occur at certain time intervals should be repeated. Unless improvement can be sustained, long-term solutions cannot be in question. In family foundations or charitable foundations; factors such as close relationships, special connection, and lack of education come to the forefront, and bulky organizations prevent innovative developments. There is a need for approaches that see the business as a whole and predict the future by uncovering the real situation. One of them is Theory of Constraints. In this paper, a case study is presented in which the problems arising from production and planning, sales and management mistakes in a food business, which is a charitable foundation, were elevated with the application of Theory of Constraints. In the study, the steps such as Current Reality Tree, the Evaporating Cloud and the Future Reality Tree from the Thinking Process were realized. As a result of putting the recommendations into practice, significant improvements were made in the business under examination. Arzu Ceylan; Endüstri Mühendisliği BölümüIndustry 4.0 has caused many changes in commerce as well as in industry. Institutions should therefore revise their strategies and make strategic decisions that will adapt to today's digital world. In the current physical or digital business competition environment, firms want to make their products more attractive by branding and delivering them to large masses. A brand is a feature that separates the product or company from the others and is an advantage both the produces and the consumer. Firms have a wider market share by ensuring the transportation and awareness of its products, and while ensuring its sustainability, consumers can gain prestige, protect their rights, and so on. The trademark must be registered in order to be valid. However, when the application was made in Turkey rejection rate of the brand has increased steadily. This situation causes great waste for the applicant and the applicant institution. In this paper, a study has been conducted with the aim of revealing how problems should be resolved by investigating the causes of rejection of applications and thus increasing the acceptance rate. In this study, Thinking Processes application was made within the framework of the Theory of Constraints approach, which aims to achieve continuous improvement by removing constraints. Thus, it is foreseen that there will be a guide on the possible mistakes of the firm managers who will make a trademark application and how these problems can be resolved. When the history of the relationship between two countries is examined, it is observed that similarities to today's relationship between parties occurred occasionally. These convergences especially in the period after the Cold War, had increased in the period when diplomatic breakups between Turkey and the USA had come up. Historically, Turkey, in its national security calculations, had always followed-up a policy that is taking Russia to the center, and that is balancing the level of threat directed by Russia by the Western allies. Today, the convergence with Russia is being actualized as the result of a reverse functioning of a similar strategic calculation.
