Article Ameliorative Effects of Myrtus Communis L. Extract Involving the Inhibition of Oxidative Stress on High Fat Diet-Induced Testis Damage in Rats(Taylor & Francis Ltd, 2024) Coskunlu, Busra; Koroglu, M. Kutay; Hersek, Irem; Ertas, Busra; Sen, Ali; Sener, Goksel; Ercan, FerihaThe possible protective effects of Myrtus communis L. (MC) extract on a high fat diet (HFD)-induced testicular injury in a rat model were investigated using histological and biochemical methods. Wistar albino rats were divided into three groups: a standard diet control group; a HFD group; and an HFD+MC group. The HFD and HFD+MC groups were fed with a HFD for 16 weeks. MC extract (100 mg/kg) was given orally five days a week to the rats in the HFD+MC group during the last four weeks of the experiment. Leptin, triglyceride, high-density lipoproteins, cholesterol, estrogen, testosterone, LH and FSH were analyzed in blood serum. Sperm parameters were evaluated from the epididymis. Testicular morphology, proliferative, apoptotic and NADPH oxidase-2 (NOX2)-positive cells were evaluated histologically. Testicular oxidative stress parameters were analyzed biochemically. In the HFD group, lipid and hormone profiles were changed, abnormal spermatozoa, degenerated seminiferous tubules with apoptotic and NOX2-positive cells were increased in number, and sperm motility and germinal proliferative cells decreased compared to the control group. Moreover, testicular malondialdehyde, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine and myeloperoxidase levels increased, whereas glutathione and superoxide dismutase levels decreased in the HFD group compared to the control group. All these histological and biochemical features were ameliorated by MC treatment of HFD-fed rats. In conclusion, HFD caused alterations in sperm parameters and testicular morphology by increasing oxidative damage and apoptosis. MC extract may have potential protective effects by inhibiting oxidative damage.Article Assessment of the Nutritional Status of Syrian Refugee Women in the Lactation Period(Sage Publications Inc, 2026) Isik, Tulay; Garipagaoglu, MuazzezBackground: The Syrian civil war has caused large-scale displacement, with many Syrian refugee women migrating to T & uuml;rkiye. Lactation is a critical period requiring adequate nutrition for maternal and infant health. However, data on the nutritional status of lactating Syrian refugee women are limited. Aim: This study aimed to assess the nutritional status of lactating Syrian refugee women who migrated to T & uuml;rkiye due to the Syrian civil war. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between October 5, 2017, and January 29, 2018, with 102 lactating Syrian refugee women with infants aged 0-6 months attending the Istanbul Al Farah Child and Family Support Center. Participants were selected using convenience sampling. Inclusion criteria were being a Syrian refugee woman in the lactation period, having an infant aged 0-6 months, and volunteering to participate in the study. Women with chronic illnesses or metabolic disorders were excluded. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews with the assistance of a translator, using a structured Turkish questionnaire covering demographic information, anthropometric measurements, and 3-day dietary records. Dietary intake was analyzed with the BEBIS9 program and compared to the T & uuml;rkiye Nutrition Guide recommendations. Although the dietary data were collected in 2017-2018, the analysis was conducted using the most up-to-date national guidelines to reflect current public health priorities. Results: Participants (n = 102) had an average age of 27.9 +/- 5.7 years, BMI of 27.3 +/- 4.6 kg/m(2), and monthly income of 1267 TL. Their daily energy intake was 1593.7 +/- 556.5 kcal/day. A large proportion of participants had inadequate intake of micronutrients, with the highest insufficiency observed for pyridoxine (88.2%), followed by vitamin A (81.4%), vitamin C (76.5%), thiamine (71.5%), riboflavin (63.7%), folic acid (81.4%), vitamin B12 (72.6%), iron (62.8%), and zinc (68.6%). Women with higher BMI in early lactation consumed more fat (p < 0.05). Significant associations were found between micronutrient intake and sociodemographic factors (p < 0.05). However, due to the small sample size and use of convenience sampling, the generalizability of the findings is limited. Future studies with larger and more representative samples are needed to confirm these results. Conclusion: Syrian refugee women in the lactation period showed inadequate intake of energy and essential micronutrients, likely due to poor socioeconomic and living conditions. Interventions such as culturally sensitive nutrition education, postpartum micronutrient supplementation, and improved access to migrant-friendly healthcare services are needed. Additionally, targeted policies and sustainable public health nutrition programs-such as food voucher schemes, fortified food distribution, and maternal support groups-should be developed in collaboration with health institutions and NGOs to improve maternal and infant health outcomes in this vulnerable population.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Assessment of the Psychometric Properties of the Online Education Student Satisfaction Scale: a Methodological Study(Springer Publishing Company, 2024) Harmancı Seren, A.K.; Alan, H.; Türkmen, E.; Gungor, S.; Baykal, Ü.Background and Purpose: Assessing student satisfaction is essential in evaluating the quality of education. The number of valid and reliable tools that measure students’ satisfaction with online education is limited. This methodological study aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the online education student satisfaction scale. Methods: Eleven academicians from the nursing field provided expert opinions on content validity. Separate 25 students evaluated the language clarity of the draft scale. The study sample included 525 third- and fourth-year nursing students. Finally, a group of 30 nursing students different from the sample participated in the test–retest. The study created an item pool based on the recent literature. The researchers calculated the items’ content validity rates and the scale’s content validity index by taking the experts’ opinions. In addition, item–total score correlation analysis, exploratory factor analysis, discrimination analysis, stability test, and internal consistency analysis were performed. Results: An item with a low-correlation value was excluded from the scale. The correlation coefficients of the remaining items were between.536 and.811. In the second round of exploratory factor analysis, a five-factor structure emerged that explained 72.1% of the total variance. In addition, item discrimination, stability, and internal consistency test results ensured that the scale was valid and reliable. Conclusions: The online education student satisfaction scale with five subdimensions containing 28 items is a valid and reliable tool. Razak; Altun, S.Fear of movement, pain, and loss of shoulder function are the most common problems irrespective of their approach to management after proximal humeral fracture (PHF). However, it has been unclear whether there could be differences between both treatments in early clinical outcomes. It can help physiotherapists to guide in choosing treatment approaches. This study aimed to compare kinesiophobia, pain, range of motion (ROM), shoulder function, and Quality of life (QoL) in patients treated with either conservative (CT) versus surgical (ST) after PHF. In addition, it aimed to determine correlations between fear of movement and seconder outcome measures. This cross-sectional study enrolled the patients having 5-6 weeks (being permitted active movement) after being treated either CT or ST and receiving no physical therapy. Pain, passive and active ROMs, shoulder function, fear of movement, and QoL were evaluated. 42 patients were recruited. Kinesiophobia scores were similar (p=0.55) and moderate in both groups. There was a significant difference in degrees of shoulder active flexion, active and passive abduction in favor of the CT group (p=0.05, p=0.02, p=0.04, respectively). However, there was no difference between groups regarding the remaining clinical outcomes. Furthermore, kinesiophobia showed a moderate negative correlation with energy/fatigue, social functioning, and general health. These findings showed that patients treated surgically did not have more kinesiophobia, less function, and QoL before starting physiotherapy, despite having soft tissue damage and different types of fractures. However, surgically treated patients had significantly less range of motion.Article Comparative Cross-Sectional Study on Sexual Function of Couples During Pregnancy: Assisted Reproductive Techniques Versus Spontaneous Conceptions(Womens Health & Action Research Centre, 2024) Dulger, Ozlem; Dinmez, Sinem; Torun, Sebahat D.; Osmanoglu, Usame O.This study aims to compare the sexual functions of couples undergoing assisted reproductive techniques (ART) with those conceiving spontaneously during pregnancy. A total of 102 couples participated in this cross-sectional study, with 68 couples in the spontaneous conception group and 34 couples in the ART group. Data collection was conducted face-to-face in the antenatal clinic using separate "Descriptive Information Form" for women and men, "Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI)" for women, and "Libido Scoring System (LSS)" for men. Descriptive statistical methods, Chi-square and Fisher exact tests, t-test, and Pearson correlation test were used for data analysis. It was observed that the mean FSFI total scores of women who conceived spontaneously and through ART during pregnancy were at a good level (>= 30), while the mean LSS scores of their partners were at a moderate level (5-7). No statistically significant distinction existed among the groups. Further research is advisable by adjusting the sample selection criteria, such as gravida, duration of ART treatment, and gestational age.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 6Comparison of in Vitro Antifungal Activity Methods Using Extract of Chitinase-Producing aeromonas Sp. Bhc02(Springer, 2023) Cadirci, Bilge Hilal; Yilmaz, GulesmeBiological control to prevent fungal plant diseases offers an alternative approach to facilitate sustainable agriculture. Since the chitin in fungal cell walls is a target for biocontrol agents, chitinases are one of the important antifungal molecules. In this study, the aim was to investigate a new chitinase isolated from a fluvial soil bacterium and to show the antifungal activity of the characterized chitinase by comparing the three common methods. The bacterium with the highest chitinase activity was identified as Aeromonas sp. by 16 S rRNA sequence analysis. Following the determination of the optimum enzyme production time, the enzyme was partially purified, and the physicochemical parameters of the enzyme were investigated. In the antifungal studies, direct Aeromonas sp. BHC02 cells or partially purified chitinase were used. As a result, in the first method in which the Aeromonas sp. BHC02 cells were spread on the surface of petri dishes, no zone formation was observed around the test fungi spotted on the surface. However, zone formation was observed in the methods in which the antifungal activity was investigated using the partially purified chitinase enzyme. For example, in the second method, the enzyme was spread on the surface of PDA, and zone formation was observed only around Penicillum species among the test fungi spotted on the surface. In the third method, in which the necessary time was given for the formation of mycelium of the test fungi, it was observed that the growth of Fusarium solani, Alternaria alternata and Botrytis cinerea was inhibited by the partially purified chitinase. This study concludes that the results of the antifungal activities depend on the method used and all fungal chitins cannot be degraded with one strain's chitinase. Depending on the variety of chitin, some fungi can be more resistant.Article Development and Psychometric Properties of the Self-Efficacy Scale for Symptom Management and Self-Care in Patients with Cardiac Surgery(Springer Publishing Co, 2025) Aksut, Rabia Saglam; Capik, Canturk; Elmas, Tugce BozkurtBackground and Purpose: Evaluating self-efficacy for symptom management and self-care is crucial for ensuring follow-up care after cardiac surgery. As there is not yet a validated measurement tool for this evaluation, the aim of this study was to develop the Self-Efficacy Scale for Symptom Management and Self-Care (SESMSC: Cardiac Surgery) in patients with cardiac surgery and to examine its psychometric properties. Methods: The Symptom Management Theory and Bandura's Self-Efficacy Theory were used as the theoretical background for scale development. A multiphase design was utilized. The initial development phase consisted of item generation and expert panel review. The second phase comprised a three-step validation process: (a) face and content analysis (CFA) for construct validity, and (c) Cronbach's alpha, test-retest, and item- total correlation analysis to assess internal consistency reliability. The sample (n = 401) was randomly divided into two subsamples for EFA and CFA (EFA group: n = 201; CFA group: n = 200). Results: EFA suggested a 20-item, two-factor structure with factor loadings of .342-.782. The two subscales of the scale were labeled symptom management self-efficacy and self-efficacy for ch's alpha, test-retest, and item-total correlation results demonstrated acceptable internal consistency reliability. Implications for Practice: The SESMSC: Cardiac Surgery may be a useful tool to evaluate self-efficacy for symptom management and self-care after cardiac surgery. Further evaluation in independent samples is needed to investigate its psychometric properties and usefulness in clinical practice.Article The Effect of Sportive Latin American Ballroom Dance on Foot and Ankle Posture(Amer Podiatric Med Assoc, 2025) Kayiskiran, Onurcan; Coskunsu, Dilber Karagozoglu; Isiklar, CagdasBackground: Correct use of the feet, step techniques, and positions constitute significant factors in the success of a dancer. Moreover, the type of dance has crucial effects on the posture of the foot and ankle. Therefore, the primary aim of our study was to determine whether there was a relationship between dancesport, dance experience (years), shoe-wearing time (hours), and shoe heel height (centimeters) in dance athletes performing Sportive Latin American Ballroom (SLAB) dance. Second, we aimed to compare the foot posture of SLAB dancers and nondancers with similar demographic characteristics. Methods: Twenty-six professional SLAB dancers and 26 nondancers who had similar demographic characteristics and did not use high-heeled shoes volunteered to take part in this study. Foot posture (using the Foot Posture Index [FPI]), foot pronation (using the navicular drop test [NDT]), tibiocalcaneal angle, hallux valgus angle (HVA) (using a goniometer), and ankle dorsiflexion range of motion (ROM) (using the weightbearing lunge test) were evaluated. Results: There was a positive moderate correlation between FPI score and shoe-wearing time on the dominant (P = .041; r = 0.40) and nondominant (P = .026; r = 0.43) sides. A positive very good correlation was found between shoe heel height and HVA (P < .001; r = 0.75). A negative good correlation was observed between years of dancing and nondominant ankle dorsiflexion ROM (P = .027; r =-0.43). When dancers and nondancers were compared, a statistically significant difference was found between FPI and NDT scores (P < .001). The FPI and NDT scores, tibiocalcaneal angle, HVA, and ankle dorsiflexion ROM were significantly greater in the dancer group compared with the nondancer group (P < .001) in all measurements of the dominant and nondominant sides. Conclusions: Revealing the relationship between dance experience and shoe-wearing time and the difference between the foot posture and deformities of athletes who perform SLAB dance and those of nondancers constitutes a pivotal endeavor that will increase awareness and knowledge among dancers and clinicians. This study aimed to evaluate the impact of vibration stimulation on pain induced by subcutaneous injections and patient satisfaction.MethodsThis was a prospective, randomized, single-blind, crossover study design. Data were collected from 85 patients. Vibration and non-vibration subcutaneous anticoagulant injections were administered randomly by the same investigator following a standardized procedure. Pain and satisfaction were evaluated by a study-blind investigator using the Visual Analogue Scale immediately after the injection. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Student's t-test, paired sample test, and a generalized linear mixed model.ResultsA total of 175 injections were analyzed. It was found that the pain level of patients was lower when vibration was applied (4.06 +/- 1.68 vs. 5.32 +/- 2.19, p = 0.004). Additionally, patient satisfaction was higher when vibration was used (7.17 +/- 1.71vs. 5.97 +/- 2.46, p = 0.011).ConclusionThe results of this study demonstrated that vibration was effective in reducing the pain associated with subcutaneous anticoagulant injections and in increasing patient satisfaction. Vibration can be used as a method to alleviate pain from subcutaneous anticoagulant injections and enhance patient satisfaction. Clinically, this suggests that incorporating vibration during subcutaneous injections can be a simple, non-pharmacological strategy to improve patient comfort and adherence to therapy.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 5Effects of myrtus Communis L. Myrtus communis leaf extracts (Myr) have antioxidant properties, and apocynin (Apo) is an effective NADPH-oxidase inhibitor. The data on tissue boron levels are quite lacking. The aim of this novel study was to investigate the effects of Myr and Apo treatment on boron levels and oxidative lens damage in rats fed a high-fat diet (HFD). Materials and Methods: Wistar albino male rats were randomly divided into four groups: the control group, HFD group, HFD + Myr group, and HFD + Apo group. Body weight and blood lipids were determined before and after the experiment. After decapitating the rats, the lenses were removed and homogenized. Catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities and boron, malondialdehyde (MDA), and reduced glutathione (GSH) levels in the lens homogenates were determined. Results: The HFD increased serum triglyceride (p<0.05), total cholesterol level (p<0.001), body weight (p<0.001), and lens MDA levels (p<0.01) and decreased lens GSH (p<0.05) and boron level (p<0.01), SOD (p<0.001), and CAT activity (p<0.001). However, Myr and Apo treatment reduced the rats' body weight (p<0.001), serum triglyceride (p<0.05), and total cholesterol level (p<0.001) and increased lens boron (p<0.01; p<0.001), GSH levels (p<0.05; p<0.01), and CAT activity (p<0.001). Conclusion: Both Myr and Apo may be able to reduce oxidative stress in the lenses of obese rats caused by HFD by increasing boron levels.Article Citation - WoS: 4Citation - Scopus: 6Effects of Balance and Strength Training for Ankle Proprioception in People With Chronic Ankle Instability: a Randomized Controlled Study(Amer Podiatric Med Assoc, 2024) Yekdaneh, Asena; Mutlu, Cigdem YaziciBackground: After an ankle sprain, the ligament and joint capsule are damaged, and as a result, proprioceptive sense is damaged, causing a feeling of giving away in the ankle and resulting in recurrent sprains. Given the relevant studies, it has been seen that people with chronic ankle instability (CAI) commonly have deficits in joint position sense and reinjury risks. Joint position sense plays an important role in ankle control, thereby reducing the risk of injury. Therefore, this study aims to compare the effects of balance and strength training on ankle proprioception in people with CAI. Methods: This single-blind randomized controlled study included 29 volunteer participants (21 women and eight men) aged 18 to 30 years. Participants with a Cumberland ankle instability scale score less than or equal to 24 were randomly divided into two treatment groups: strength training (n = 14) and balance training (n = 15). Y balance test, joint position, and vibration sense were evaluated at the beginning and end of the treatment. "Hop to stabilization" exercises were applied to the balance group and resistive bands exercises to the strength group, which were performed for 6 weeks, 35 minutes per day, two times per week. Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in the anterior, posterolateral, and posteromedial directions of the Y balance test (P = .89, P = .50, and P = .34, respectively), but the strength training group showed significant improvement in ankle proprioception (140 degrees) and vibration sense (fifth finger) (P < .001), and the post hoc Cohen's d effect size values were medium (.52) and small (.25), respectively. Conclusions: The findings of this study show that strengthening and balance exercises have similar effects on dynamic balance, but strengthening exercises are more effective in improving joint position and vibration sense. Given the positive effects of both exercise programs, it is recommended to implement the two interventions separately or together for CAI rehabilitation.Article Citation - Scopus: 6Effects of Computer-Based Balance Exercises on Balance, Pain, Clinical Presentation and Nerve Function in Patients With Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy: a Randomized Controlled Study(International Society of Musculoskeletal and Neuronal Interactions, 2024) Reyhanıoglu, D.A.; Yıldırım, G.; Sengun, I.Ş.; Kara, B.Objective:To evaluate the use of a computer-based biodex balance exercise system (BBS) on balance, neuropathic pain, clinical presentation and nerve function in patients with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Methods: A total of 32 participants with DPN were randomly assigned in a 1:1 ratio to an intervention group (IG) or control group (CG). The IG performed exercises using the BBS twice weekly for 8 weeks, while CG were informed regarding diabetes self-management. At baseline and after study completion, participants underwent balance (postural stability and fall risk) and neuropathic pain assessment (DN4 questionnaire) and were screened using the Michigan Neuropathy Screening Instrument and nerve conduction test. Results: Among the baseline participants, 14 in the IG and 13 in the CG completed the study. Balance training improved postural stability (overall, p<0.001), fall risk (p<0.001), neuropathic pain (p=0.01) and symptoms (p<0.001), and clinical presentation (p=0.02), but not nerve function, within the IG. At follow-up, IG displayed significantly improved stability (p<0.001) and fall risk (p=0.02) and decreased neuropathic symptoms (p=0.01) compared to the CG. Conclusion: Computer-based balance exercises improve balance, pain, and clinical presentation of DPN, but not nerve function, in patients with DPN. Methods: Thirty volunteers aged 20 to 40 years old with NNP over 3 months duration were included. Participants were randomly divided into the following 2 groups: (1) MSM group (n = 15) and (2) ISM group (n = 15). Ipsilateral (intervention side) and contralateral (opposite side of intervention) VAs and ICAs were evaluated using spectral color Doppler ultrasound before and immediately after manipulation. Measurements were recorded by visualizing the ICA carotid sinus (C4 level) and the VA at the V3 segment (C1-C2 level). The blood flow parameters of peak systolic velocity (PSV), end-diastolic velocity, resistive index, and volume flow (only for VA) were evaluated. The spinal segment, in which biomechanical aberrant movement was detected by palpation in the upper cervical spine, was manually manipulated in the MSM group. The same methodology was performed for the ISM group using an Activator V instrument (Activator Methods). Results: Intragroup analysis exhibited no statistically significant difference between the MSM and ISM groups in terms of PSV, end-diastolic velocity, resistive index of ipsilateral and contralateral ICA and VA, in addition to volume flow of both VAs preintervention and postintervention (P > .05). Within the intergroup analysis, there was a significant difference in ipsilateral ICA PSV (P = .031) (preintervention vs postintervention difference was -7.9 & PLUSMN; 17.2 cm/s [95% confidence interval, -17.4 to 1.6] in the ISM group and 8.7 & PLUSMN; 22.5 cm/s [95% confidence interval, -3.6 to 21.2]) in the MSM group (P < .05). Other parameters did not show any significant difference (P > .05). Whether the anhepatic phase and cold ischemia duration have an effect on the rates of surgery time, blood product transfusion, total hospital and intensive care unit stay, postoperative biliary complications, hepatic vein thrombosis, portal vein thrombosis, early postoperative bleeding, sepsis, and primary graft dysfunction. Was analyzed statistically. In addition, the effect of the anhepatic phase and cold ischemia time on graft survival was statistically examined by creating an average of the patient follow-up period. Results. It was observed that the operation time increased statistically as the cold ischemia time increased (P P = .000). No statistically significant fi cant relationship was found between other fi nd- ings and cold ischemia time and anhepatic phase. Conclusion. METHODS: The study was conducted with cross-sectional design. The data were gathered from the mothers of children with chronic diseases who were followed up at the endocrine outpatient clinic of a hospital in Istanbul between February 1, 2021, and May 31, 2021. The data were collected by conducting face-to-face interviews with mothers of 117 children through information form, Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and the Coping with Stress Scale (CSS). RESULTS: It was determined that 35.9% of the mothers stated that they had problems during the pandemic since their children suffered from chronic diseases. The mean scores of the mothers were 26.88 +/- 6.69 points for the PSS and 87.35 +/- 11.04 points for the CSS and there was a negative and weak correlation between their scale scores (r = -.190; p < .05). CONCLUSION: It was found that families faced many different problems during the pandemic, such as the treatment and control of their children. In case of extraordinary situations such as pandemics, nurses should provide planned guidance and counseling services to children with chronic diseases and their families in order to manage the negative situations they experience.Article Citation - WoS: 2Citation - Scopus: 1Examining the Sensory Processing Skills and Occupational Performance of People With Multiple Sclerosis(Taylor & Francis inc, 2024) Aydoner, Selen; Bumin, GoncaThis study aimed to compare sensory processing skills and occupational performance between participants with multiple sclerosis and healthy controls. Eighty participants were enrolled in this study, 40 with multiple sclerosis and 40 with healthy controls. Participants were between 18 and 65 years of age and asked to complete the Adult Sensory Profile, and Canadian Occupational Performance Measure. The findings of the study revealed that participants with multiple sclerosis had a lower ability to register sensory input, a higher sensory sensitivity, and avoidance, as well as lower levels of performance and satisfaction in their daily occupations, compared to the healthy controls (p < 0.05). People with multiple sclerosis often experience difficulties with sensory processing and occupational performance in daily life. We compared the effectiveness of ESWT versus instrument-assisted soft-tissue mobilization using Graston Technique (GT) instruments in addition to stretching exercises (SEs) in CPHP. Methods: Sixty-nine patients were randomly assigned to three groups: ESWT+SEs (group 1), GT+SEs (group 2), and SEs only (control group) (ratio, 1:1:1). The SEs, twice daily for 8 weeks, were standard for all. Group 1 received low-intensity ESWT; in group 2, GT was the selected method. Visual analog scales (for initial step and activity pain), the Foot Function Index (FFI), the 12-item Short-Form Health Survey (SF-12), and the Tampa Scale for Kinesiophobia were used pretreatment, posttreatment, and at 8-week and 6-month follow-up. Results: Visual analog scale and FFI scores improved posttreatment and during follow-up in all groups (P < .001). Although effect sizes were greater in groups 1 and 2 than in the control group in initial step pain posttreatment and at 8-week follow-up, group 2 had the highest effect size at 6 months. Mean SF-12 scores in groups 1 and 2 improved on the post-treatment assessment. Furthermore, group 2 showed significant improvements in FFI scores compared with the other groups at 6-month follow-up (F = 6.33; P = .003). Conclusions: Although ESWT+SEs and GT+SEs seem to have similar effects on initial step pain posttreatment and at 8-week follow-up, GT+SEs was found most effective for improving functional status at 6 months in the management of CPHP. © 2022, American Podiatric Medical Association. This study investigated the relationship between sensory processing, motor and visual perceptual skills, and executive functions, and school readiness in kindergarten children. A total of 138 kindergarten children administered the Sensory Profile, the Bruininks-Oseretsky Test 2- Brief Form, the Test of Visual Perceptual Skills-3, the Childhood Executive Functioning Inventory, and the Primary School Readiness Scale. The results showed that sensory processing, motor and visual perceptual skills, and executive functions were correlated with children's school readiness, and these skills were also highly predictive of children's school readiness (p < 0.05). HIV/HBV coinfection is correlated with high morbidity and mortality. For this particular reason hepatitis B vaccination is crucial for people living with HIV. Methods: Patients who are being followed-up for HIV/AIDS and who have received a hepatitis B vaccine in 4 HIV clinics over a 5-year time period have been studied. Our multi-centered, retrospective, cross-sectional and observational study investigates factors that affect hepatitis B vaccination immune response of individuals living with HIV. The patients have been studied for the parameters such as age, sex, CD4 count at the time of diagnosis or vaccination, HIV-RNA levels, comorbidities, vaccine dosage, success of immunization after vaccination, and the demographics of the patients who have and have not developed immunity. Results: Of 645 patients that are being followed-up in our clinics, 158 received hepatitis B vaccine; 39 of these 158 patients have been excluded from the study because they did not fulfil the inclusion criteria. Finally, 119 patients were evaluated in the study, 17 of the patients (14.3%) were females and 102 (85.7%) were males. The median age was 41.11 +/- 10.09 (min-max: 18-75). Twenty-three of the patients (19.3%) were at the stage of AIDS during diagnosis while 80.7% were at the stage of HIV infection. Ninety-one of the patients (76.5%) have been administered a single dose hepatitis B vaccine on the standard 0, 1st, 6th month vaccination schedule, whereas 23.5% were administered a double dose on the same vaccination schedule. When further evaluated to find whether the patient was able to develop sufficient immunity (anti-HBs >= 10), it was found that the immune response was statistically significantly higher in the patients whose CD4 count was greater than 200 at the time of the first diagnosis and vaccination (p = 0.05 and p = 0.001, respectively). The patients have also been evaluated according to the number of doses they received (1 vs. 2). The immune response of the patients who received two doses was statistically significantly higher (p = 0.041). Conclusion: We can conclude that in the patients with CD4 count less than 200 at the time of their diagnosis and vaccination a high dose recombinant hepatitis B vaccine should definitely be administered as the normal dose and higher dose have similar side effect profiles and the higher dose provides greater immunity.Article Citation - WoS: 5Citation - Scopus: 6Hepatoprotective Effects of Parsley (petroselinum Crispum) Extract in Rats With Bile Duct Ligation(Elsevier, 2023) Ede, Seren; Özbeyli, Dilek; Erdogn, Omer; Cevik, Ozge; Kanpalta, Fatma; Ercan, Feriha; Senerg, GokselBackground and study aims: This study aimed to investigate the possible protective effects of parsley extract (Petroselinum Crispum; PC) against oxidative liver damage caused by bile obstruction in rats. Material and methods: Bile duct ligation (BDL) method was used to induce liver injury in rats. The rats were divided into the three groups each consisting of 8 rats; Sham-operated control (C), bile duct ligated + saline treated (BDL), and BDL + PC treated groups. PC extract was given at a dose of 2 g/kg orally for 28 days. Aspartate amino transferase (AST), alanin amino transferase (ALT), and bilirubin levels were analyzed in sera. In order to determine free radicals in liver injury, luminol and lucigenin chemiluminescence tests used. Oxidative stress was evaluated through superoxide dismutase, glutathione, malondialdehyde, Na+/K+-ATPase and 8-hydroxy guanosine levels. Furthermore, inflammation marker myeloperoxidase, apoptosis marker caspase-3, and fibrosis markers TGF- beta and hydoxyproline were investigated. The liver tissues were also examined for histological evaluations.Results: While PC treatment decreased AST and ALT levels which increased with BDL, oxidant damage parameters also decreased with this treatment. Conclusion: The present study, which is the first research for PC extract on cholestasis induced liver damage, demonstrated that PC extract could be a potential therapeutic agent against liver fibrosis and need further studies.
