Article The Acute Effects of Various Dynamic Stretching Exercises on Jump Performance and Range of Motion(Universidad de Murcia, 2025) Savaan, Mustafa; Pmar, Yeliz; Pmar, Salih; Antrenörlük Eğitimi BölümüThis study aimed to investigate the acute effects of different dynamic stretching (DS) protocols on vertical jump performance and range of motion (ROM). Thirty healthy male participants, with an average age of 23.48 years, body weight of 76.90 kg, and height of 181.87 cm, who had engaged in recreational exercise for at least two years, participated voluntarily. A "cross-controlled randomized" experimental design was utilized to assess four distinct DS protocols: a-DS at 100 bpm for 30", b-DS at 100 bpm for 75" s, c-DS at 150 bpm for 30", and d-DS at 150 bpm for 75". Acute ROM was measured using the Passive Straight Leg Raise Test (PSLR), while jump performance was assessed via countermovement jump (CMJ). Data were analyzed using repeated measures ANOVA and paired samples T-tests with significance set at p<.05. All four DS techniques significantly increased angles measured by PSLR following application (p <.05). CMJ values also showed significant improvements in both groups subjected to the shorter protocols lasting 30"at either tempo (p <.05). Consideration should be given to application duration and tempo when planning DS exercises, as structured warmup routines can enhance flexibility and optimize athletic performance.Article Acute Serious Hepatitis of Unknown Cause in Children(Galenos Publishing House, 2022) Kılbaş, E.P.K.; Altındiş, M.; Tıbbi Hizmetler ve Teknikler BölümüOn April 5, 2022, an increase in cases of acute hepatitis of unknown etiology was reported in previously healthy children under the age of 10 in the United Kingdom. Since there is no link between these patients, called acute non-HepA-E hepatitis, and viral hepatitis agents (hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E), the possible etiology, and pathogenesis of this emergency is being investigated. One of the alarming features of this epidemic is the high requirement for liver transplantation in a fraction of the cases. In cases other than hepatitis A, B, C, D, and E, a case definition is made by looking at a series of clinical pictures, including serum transaminase levels and age. As of August 26, 2022, 513 cases of acute hepatitis have been reported in Europe and 1,010 globally. Adenovirus was detected in 75% of cases tested in the UK, but data for other countries are still lacking. The role of other etiologic agents is still under investigation. The exact disease pathogenesis has not yet clear. Evidence of human-to-human transmission of the disease remains unclear. Epidemiological studies are critical in clarifying the uncertainties regarding the existence of links between the cases reported to date. Continuing the national and international surveillance activities of the countries in an organized manner is the most basic issue required for the elimination of the epidemic. Iron deficiency is a widespread condition and a leading cause of anemia globally. Conversely, excessive iron accumulation can cause severe liver damage, such as cirrhosis, by exacerbating oxidative stress. Consequently, assessing iron status through biomarkers like ferritin, which is a protein that reflects the body’s iron stores, is critical for diagnosing iron-related disorders accurately. The ferritin test, which measures the concentration of ferritin protein in the blood, is a standard method for iron analysis. However, frequent hospital visits for such testing can be both time-intensive and expensive. This has driven significant interest in developing rapid and cost-effective methods for ferritin detection. To meet this demand, a variety of biosensors have been designed using diverse techniques to enable convenient ferritin analysis. Despite considerable advancements in biosensor technologies, a comprehensive classification and analysis of these devices remain lacking, leaving researchers without a unified understanding of their comparative strengths and limitations. This review addresses this gap by systematically categorizing ferritin biosensors based on their underlying mechanisms. The review explores electrochemical biosensors, such as those based on graphene, microfluidics, and ZnO–Mn3O4 nanocomposites, as well as electrical biosensors using quantum dots or gold nanorods. Additionally, optical biosensors, including photonic crystal sensors, surface plasmon resonance systems and magnesium sulfide nanosheets are discussed in detail. Unconventional and immunoassay-based biosensors, such as nanodiamond-based magnetic sensors and nanowire FETs, are also examined to highlight the breadth of detection strategies available. With the rising prevalence of iron-related disorders and the limitations of traditional diagnostic tools, this review underscores the critical need for portable, rapid, and cost-effective ferritin biosensing technologies, offering insights relevant to both clinical practice and future research. © 2025 Elsevier B.V., All rights reserved.Article Assessment of Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy in Nursing Mothers Following Earthquakes: A Case Study of the Kahramanmaraş Earthquakes in Turkey(Kashan Univ Medical Sciences, 2025) Dinmez, Sinem Guven; Karaman, Ozen Esra; Bakir, Emine; Ebelik BölümüBackground: Natural disasters disproportionately impact vulnerable populations, particularly mothers and infants. Research indicates that during such events, mothers often favor formula and supplementary feeding over breastfeeding. Self-efficacy is a critical determinant influencing breastfeeding practices in disaster contexts.
Objectives: This study aimed to examine the breastfeeding characteristics and self-efficacy of nursing mothers following the Kahramanmara & scedil; earthquakes.
Methods: This descriptive study was conducted at the Children's Polyclinic of Iskenderun State Hospital in Turkey from August 1 to August 31, 2023. A total of 54 mothers with infants aged 0-1 year at the time of the earthquake, who continued to breastfeed (providing breast milk for at least one feeding), were selected using a non-probability purposive sampling method. During the study period, all eligible mothers visiting the polyclinic who met the inclusion criteria were evaluated. Data were collected using a "Descriptive Data Form" and the "Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Short Form Scale". Statistical analyses were performed using SPSS version 23, employing Independent Samples t-tests, Mann-Whitney U tests, and One-Way ANOVA for group comparisons. A P-value of less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant.
Results: The mean breastfeeding self-efficacy score among mothers was 58 +/- 5.87 (minimum 40; maximum 70). Mothers who exclusively breastfed their infants had significantly higher self-efficacy scores compared to those who introduced formula (P = 0.021) Among the mothers surveyed, 81.5% reported that their breastfeeding was affected by the earthquake; 41% cited issues related to privacy, while 27% faced challenges regarding shelter. Prior to the earthquake, 72% of infants were exclusively breastfed; however, this figure decreased as 81.5% of infants began receiving complementary foods alongside breast milk post-earthquake.
Conclusion: The findings indicate that mothers breastfeeding self-efficacy is at a moderate level. Additionally, mothers reported alterations in their breastfeeding practices compared to the pre-earthquake period. These results underscore the importance of promoting breastfeeding in disaster-affected areas and highlight the critical role of midwives in supporting these efforts.Article Assessment of the Psychometric Properties of the Online Education Student Satisfaction Scale: a Methodological Study(Springer Publishing Company, 2024) Harmancı Seren, A.K.; Alan, H.; Türkmen, E.; Gungor, S.; Baykal, Ü.; Hemşirelik BölümüBackground and Purpose: Assessing student satisfaction is essential in evaluating the quality of education. The number of valid and reliable tools that measure students’ satisfaction with online education is limited. This methodological study aimed to assess the psychometric properties of the online education student satisfaction scale. Methods: Eleven academicians from the nursing field provided expert opinions on content validity. Separate 25 students evaluated the language clarity of the draft scale. The study sample included 525 third- and fourth-year nursing students. Finally, a group of 30 nursing students different from the sample participated in the test–retest. The study created an item pool based on the recent literature. The researchers calculated the items’ content validity rates and the scale’s content validity index by taking the experts’ opinions. In addition, item–total score correlation analysis, exploratory factor analysis, discrimination analysis, stability test, and internal consistency analysis were performed. Results: An item with a low-correlation value was excluded from the scale. The correlation coefficients of the remaining items were between.536 and.811. In the second round of exploratory factor analysis, a five-factor structure emerged that explained 72.1% of the total variance. In addition, item discrimination, stability, and internal consistency test results ensured that the scale was valid and reliable. Conclusions: The online education student satisfaction scale with five subdimensions containing 28 items is a valid and reliable tool. In the movie, nature and the Na'vi people are depicted as feminine, while modern man and the science, technology, and military power he represents are portrayed as masculine. Although it critiques the colonialist structure of modernity, the film's narrative structure and character portrayals indicate that it reproduces the superiority of Western-centered ideology and the masculine mind. The study analyzes how the film's narrative and character representations implicitly support masculine centrism. The analysis reveals how nature and marginalized cultures are romanticized and presented in the film and how the notion that the feminine can only survive by adopting masculine traits is processed in the subtext. Grounded in a conceptual and theoretical framework, this research focuses on the sustainability of the patriarchal capitalist system and gender politics while critically examining how cinema reconstructs ideological structures through the narratives in the film.Article Citation - Scopus: 1Beautiful, Sexy, and Happy Celebrities: Perfect Mothers or Instamoms(Bridgewater State College, 2023) Güzel, E.The development of information technologies and the Internet has created an enormous economy. In line with this digital transformation, cultural change has come about. Global companies create new trends focused on vanity and pleasure in social media that follow the patriarchal capitalist ideology. Motherhood has also been included in this process, and “perfect motherhood,” as an extension to new generation motherhood, has been popularized on social media. Perfect motherhood requires mothers who are responsible for looking after children and the home to also be successful in their professional and personal lives while looking beautiful, young, chic, sexy, and fit. Recently the celebrification of motherhood, which can be seen on Instagram, became another quality added to the requirements of being a perfect mother. Heightened during the new post-COVID times, the “Instamom” phenomenon conceals the fact that women are driven to more states of increased precarity and vulnerability, alongside unemployment, exploitation, and ecological and economic crises. This study analyzes the perfect motherhood myth through Instamom case studies and attempts to show how Instamoms are perceived by mothers and mothers-to-be. By adopting the digital ethnography method, 30 Instamom accounts (with followers ranging from 135,000 to 3.5 million) in Turkey were observed for a year via passive participant observations. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with six Instamoms and 12 follower mothers and mothers-to-be. In conclusion, it was discovered that Instamoms were perceived by their followers as exemplars of knowledge and beauty. Furthermore, the study revealed that both groups were part of the celebrification and branding process, and those who shared knowledge based on experience were considered sincere and created a bigger impression on their followers. It was also discovered that when sharing on social media, these Instamoms attempted to look their best. Moreover, Instamom accounts that prominently use children to increase viewer interaction demonstrate issues related to the “commercialization of childhood.” Tangible advice for transformative change is included at the end of the research. © 2022 Journal of International Women’s Studies.Article Bibliometric Analysis of Publications on Stigmatization in Psychiatric Nursing Literature(Kare Publishing, 2024) Dikeç, G.; Sarıtaş, M.; Oban, V.; Hemşirelik BölümüObjectives: In the past two decades, the number of publications on stigma has increased in the literature. This study aimed to conduct a bibliometric analysis of publications related to stigmatization in the psychiatric nursing literature. Methods: In this study, a search was performed on the PubMed database on September 11, 2022, with the Medical Searching Terms “(Stigmatization [Title OR Abstract] OR Social Stigma [Title OR Abstract]) OR (Stigma [Title OR Abstract] OR Stereotyping [Title OR Abstract] OR Discrimination [Title OR Abstract]) AND (Psychiatric Nursing [Title OR Abstract] OR Nursing [Title OR Abstract]).” Between 1990 and 2022, 10,571 studies published in English, available in full text, and published in journals indexed with SCI, SSCI, and ESCI were found. Results: The number of published articles reached the highest number in 2020, with an increase of 4.05 times in 30 years; it was determined that 92.8% of the publications were of the descriptive study, and Happell was the most productive author in this field. Frequently, articles were published in the Journal of Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing (n=762), Journal of Psychosocial Nursing and Mental Health Services (n=550), International Journal of Mental Health Nursing (n=480), Issues in Mental Health Nursing (n=445), and Journal of Advanced Nursing (n=429). It was determined that the top five most frequently repeated keywords were humans, female, psychiatric nursing, male, and adult, respectively. Conclusion: The findings obtained from this study can provide information about the number of publications, research types, researchers, and institutions, as well as give ideas for new research strategies in psychiatric nursing literature. Anti-oxidant and anti-inflammatory effects of bitter melon (BM) were reported. The aim of this study was to examine the effects of BM fruit extract on MTX-induced testicular and epididymal damage. Materials and Methods: Sprague Dawley male rats were divided into three groups (n=8) as control, MTX and MTX+BM. A single dose of MTX (20 mg/kg) was injected intraperitoneally to the MTX and MTX+BM groups. BM fruit extract (600 mg/kg) was applied to the MTX+BM group orally for 5 days. Testes were examined for general histopathology, proliferating and apoptotic cells. The epididymis samples were used for the evaluation of sperm morphology. Oxidative and inflammatory markers were analysed biochemically. Results: Increased abnormal spermatozoa, degenerated seminiferous tubules with increased apoptotic cells and decreased proliferative cells were observed in the MTX group. TNF-α, IL-1β, 8-hydroxy-2-deoxyguanosine and caspase-3 levels increased, superoxide dismutase and catalase levels decreased in both testis and epididymis samples. All these histological and biochemical parameters were ameliorated in the MTX+BM group. Conclusion: Methotrexate causes testis damage by decreasing spermatogenic cells and increasing apoptosis through oxidative stress and inflammation. In cancer immunotherapy, the immune system is activated, replaced, engineered, or regenerated to fight cancer. Stem cells are the most widely used for cancer immunotherapy. Stem cells have a natural capacity for self-healing via asymmetric division. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are a specific group of stem cells that have the potential to be used most often in regenerative medicine. In addition to MSCs, induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) and hematopoietic stem cells (HSCs) are used in regenerative medicine for cancer treatment. This aim of this study was to make the Turkish language validity and reliability of the Child and Adolescent Mindfulness Measure (CAMM), which can be used in children and adolescents about mindfulness, which has been very well-liked in recent years, and which has validity and reliability in many languages, and to bring it into our language for the ages of 9-18. Materials and Methods: The total sample of the current study consisted of 156 children and adolescents, 48 of whom were children and adolescents with any mental disorderdiagnosis according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5 (DSM-5). One hundred eight of them did not have any mental disorders diagnosis according to DSM-5, who had only periodic problems or were brought for counseling. Results: In the reliability analysis of the scale, the Cronbach’s alpha coefficient was found to be 0.76 for the whole scale. In test-retest reliability two weeks apart, the two measurements have a strong correlation between the measurements (r=0.634 p<0.0001). Conclusion: In conclusion, our findings show that the Turkish version of the CAMM is a valid and reliable measurement tool for the 9-18 age group. © 2024, Galenos Publishing House. In this study, it is aimed to determine the right cold chain logistics firm for company EDB that is a small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) operating in the food industry. Firstly, the selection criteria are defined according to the literature survey and expert views. AHP approach has been used to calculate the weight of them. After the determination of weight of criteria, VIKOR approach has been used to identify the best cold chain logistics firm for company EDB. Sixty-five healthy male motorcycle racers were divided into four groups according to their age and the power of the motorcycles' engine: (Group-1 [G1] = 600CC/23-34 years; Group-2 [G2] = 600-CC/35-48 years; Group-3 [G3] = 1000-CC/23-34 years; Group-4 [G4] = 1000-CC/35-48 years). Then, Nelson's reaction time and maximal hand grip strength were measured for both hands. There were no significant differences between the groups' grip strength (p>0.05). It was found that G1's right-and left-hand reaction time was faster than that of G2, and G1's left-hand reaction time was faster than that of G3 (p<0.05). The right-hand visual reaction time was found to have a negative weak correlation with the left-hand absolute grip strength (r=-0.247, p=0.047), and there was a weak positive correlation between the left-hand visual reaction time and height (r=0.315, p=0.011). G1's right-hand visual reaction time was better than that of G2 (p < 0.001), and G1's visual left-hand reaction time was better than those of G2 (p < 0.034) and G3 (p < 0.011). Although the absolute and relative hand grip strength values did not differ according to the ages and the engine power of the motorcycle used, it was found that the simple reaction time increased with increasing age.Article Citation - Scopus: 2Comparison of the Hidden Curriculum for Nursing Education of Two Different Universities in the East and West of Turkiye(Inonu University, 2024) Elmali Şimşek, H.; Aksoy, M.The present study aimed to determine and compare the hidden curriculum of two institutions that provide undergraduate nursing education in two different regions of Türkiye. The descriptive and cross-sectional research was conducted with 319 nursing students. Data were collected with the Introductory Information Form and Hidden Curriculum Evaluation Scale in Nursing Education (HCES-N). While the mean score of the HCES-N total score of the nursing students attending the university in the West of Türkiye was 163.31 ± 21.69. The HCES-N total mean score of the nursing students attending in the East of Türkiye was calculated as 145.50 ± 25.81. While the HCES-N total score, school atmosphere, and professional achievement scores of the nursing students attending the university in the West of Türkiye were statistically higher than the nursing students attending the university in the east, the student-teacher-school interaction score was statistically lower. It was determined that the perceptions of the students participating in the study towards the hidden curriculum were moderate, while the perceptions of the students studying in the West of Türkiye were better. In line with these results, it is important to improve the physical conditions of schools in improving the hidden curriculum. © 2024, Inonu University. Due to a shortage of capacity, hospitals cannot treat all patients. We developed a whole hospital-level decision support system to assess and respond to the needs of local populations. We integrated a comparative forecasting approach and discrete event simulation modelling using Hospital Episode Statistics and local datasets. It is clear from the literature that this level of whole hospital simulation model has never been developed before (an innovative decision support system). First, the demands of all hospital specialties were forecasted, and the forecasts were embedded into the simulation model as input. Secondly, a simulation model was developed to capture the patient pathway of all specialties. The model integrates every component of a hospital to aid with efficient and effective use of scarce resources (e.g., staff and beds). As a result, the hospital can meet the increasing demand with its current resources. According to the scenario analysis, the hospital bed occupancy rate will reach the national target (i.e., 85%), and the total hospital revenue will increase by approximately 13%, with a 10% increase in A&E and outpatient and a 20% increase in inpatient demand. In conclusion, the hospital-level simulation model can become a crucial instrument for decision-makers to provide an efficient service for hospitals in England and other parts of the world. © 2023 The AuthorsArticle The Correlation Between Vitamin D Levels and Thyroid Functions in Early Pregnancy(Yuzuncu Yil Universitesi Tip Fakultesi, 2025) Dinmez, Sinem; Özlem, Dülger; Oğul, Zeynep; Ebelik BölümüVitamin D deficiency (serum vitamin D <10 ng/ml) and thyroid dysfunctions are prevalent issues globally, particularly during pregnancy. Evidence suggests a potential link between thyroid function and vitamin D levels. This study aims to investigate the correlation between serum vitamin D levels and thyroid functions in wome n during the first trimester of pregnancy. The study was conducted retrospectively at a University Education and Research Hospital’s pregnancy clinic, covering data from August 2023 to March 2024. The sample group consisted of first -trimester pregnant women who attended routine pregnancy check-ups and had complete vitamin D levels and thyroid function tests (n=185). The sociodemographic data form and blood serum level assessment forms were used as data collection tools. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and correlation analysis. The average age of the pregnant women participating in our study was 27.6±4.9 years, and the Body Mass Index (BMI) was 25.4±4.8 (overweight). The mean number of pregnancies was 1.13±0.3, and the gestational week was 8.19±1.8. Of the participants, 35 had subclinical hypothyroidism, 37 had thyroiditis, and 113 had normal thyroid functions. The study identified 36 women with normal/adequate vitamin D levels (≥20 ng/ml), 113 with vitamin D insufficiency (10–20 ng/ml), and 36 with vitamin D deficiency (<10 ng/ml). The correlation analysis revealed no significant relationship between the thyroid function tests and vitamin D levels of the pregnant women. The assessment of anaerobic power in cyclists often involves the use of the vertical jump and Wingate cycle tests. The lack of research in the field of cycling-specific tests to assess anaerobic performance has led to the improvement of existing research. The objective of this research was to investigate the correlation between the vertical jump test and the Wingate anaerobic cycling tests, both of which are often used to assess anaerobic power in road cyclists. A correlation study was conducted on 15 athletes of the Turkish national road cycling team in the 14-16 age group (15.107 ± 0.717 (SD)). The sample of the study was determined by using the convenient sampling method. On the first day, anthropometric measurements and the vertical jump test were conducted. The Wingate cycle ergometer test, lasting for a duration of 30 seconds, was administered to the participants on the second day. The computer application was used to determine the 30-second peak and average anaerobic power during the test. The results acquired from the study revealed a statistically significant positive relationship between the vertical jump performance and the peak power production measured during the Wingate cycle test (r=0.321, p<0.05). This paper addresses the process of developing critical thinking and design, focusing on the central project, relating to Beylikdüzü Archaeological Excavation Site in Istanbul, Turkiye. This project provides the opportunity for students to explore the context, restrictions of the site and metaphors in design while operating more as an incubator for collaboration than a formal studio course. More specifically, the project aims to improve links between the welcome centre and the archaeological site and hence fills a research gap by exploring the value of producing three-dimensional thinking able to deliver architectural solutions that are new to the context. The purpose of the study is to investigate students' abilities in site analysis, topography and environment for appropriate designs that are functional and sustainable. Methods such as SWOT analysis and topographical studies are incorporated within the framework to propose a unified design solution that is sensitive to both the archaeological site and cultural attachment. The results show integrated and innovative solutions that combined the welcome centre with the archaeological area, helping to enrich the visitor experience. The rise of state control and regulation of the Internet, along with the private sector’s expanding control over information, poses significant challenges to the ideals of freedom and openness that once defined the Internet. This article examines the transformation in Internet governance from a state of minimal regulation to a heavily controlled environment by both governments and corporations and explores how the blockchain technology and decentralised architecture underlying Web3 promise to redefine Internet governance and resist censorship. Through a mixed-method approach that synthesises insights from computer science, political science, and legal studies, the paper argues that public blockchains challenge Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers’ (ICANN) traditional control over DNS and significantly reduce the ability of centralised entities to exert control over content and communication, thereby enhancing freedom of expression and resisting censorship.
