It aims to investigate the current state and future directions of XR opportunities for architecture offices and construction companies in a developing country. A quantitative approach was employed which involves conducting a survey, performing statistical analyses, and verification of the hypotheses. The data were analyzed by SPSS and Excel using the frequency, mean score, standard deviation (SD), and one sample t-test. Thirty-three different companies participated in the survey with a return rate of 56.89%. The results were considered statistically significant since all the p-values were below 0.05. The findings revealed that even though 60% of the companies are not using XR, 60% companies have near future plans on implementing them. According to the results, XR was considered as beneficial and highly motivating for the near future, yet it needs to be widespread for companies to keep themselves abreast of information and communication technology trends. Finally, by considering the findings obtained from the results this study reaches a classification of drivers as 'increased efficiency: time-cost-quality' and 'increased communication and coordination' while barriers as 'technical limitations', 'high costs', and 'unqualified professional'.Article Evaluation of Octenidine Dihydrochloride-Induced Cytotoxicity, Apoptosis, and Inflammatory Responses in Human Ocular Epithelial and Retinal Cells(MDPI, 2025) Ciftci, Ihsan Hakki; Deveci Ozkan, Asuman; Erman, Gulay; Kilbas, Imdat; Aydemir, OzlemBackground/Objectives: Octenidine dihydrochloride (OCT-D) is a broad-spectrum antiseptic with high chemical stability, low toxicity, and no reported microbial resistance, making it a strong candidate for use on mucosal surfaces. Despite increasing interest in its potential ophthalmic applications, limited data exist regarding its cellular effects on ocular tissues. This study aimed to investigate the cytotoxic, apoptotic, inflammatory, and transcriptional responses induced by OCT-D in human conjunctival (IOBA-NHC) and retinal pigment epithelial (ARPE-19) cells. Methods: Cells were exposed to varying concentrations of OCT-D, and viability was assessed using the WST-1 assay to determine IC50 and IC50/2 values. These concentrations were subsequently used in molecular assays. Pro-inflammatory cytokines (IL-6, IL-1 beta, TNF-alpha, IFN-gamma) were quantified by ELISA. Apoptotic activation was evaluated through caspase-3/7 activity assays. Gene expression analysis of apoptotic (Bax, Bcl-2), DNA damage-related (ATM, Rad51), and inflammatory markers was performed using RT-qPCR. Results: OCT-D induced a marked, dose-dependent reduction in cell viability in both cell lines, with ARPE-19 showing greater sensitivity. Caspase-3/7 activity increased significantly at IC50 and IC50/2, confirming intrinsic apoptotic activation. OCT-D markedly suppressed the release of key inflammatory cytokines and downregulated transcription of inflammatory genes. RT-qPCR revealed upregulation of pro-apoptotic and DNA damage-associated genes, demonstrating coordinated activation of apoptotic and genomic stress pathways. Conclusion: OCT-D triggers integrated cytotoxic, apoptotic, and immunomodulatory responses in conjunctival and retinal epithelial cells. Exercise programs were developed by ChatGPT-4, ChatGPT-4o, Gemini-1.5 Pro models, and a group of human expert trainers for a hypothetical obese individual case. All exercise programs were assessed based on the American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) and National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) guidelines. The chatbot-generated programs were consistent with ACSM and NASM standards, indicating their potential use in low-resource settings. Nevertheless, considerable differences were found between human trainers and chatbots in key parameters, including initial load and target heart rate zone recommendations. While AI chatbots have the potential to enhance accessibility, human expertise remains essential to ensure program safety and effectiveness. The results of this study provide insights into the potential role of AI chatbots in personalized exercise programs for weight management.Article Citation - WoS: 16Citation - Scopus: 20A Fast Intrusion Detection System Based on Swift Wrapper Feature Selection and Speedy Ensemble Classifier(Pergamon-elsevier Science Ltd, 2024) Zorarpaci, EzgiDue to the widespread use of the internet, computer network systems may be exposed to different types of attacks. For this reason, the intrusion detection systems (IDSs) are often used to protect the network systems. Network traffic data (i.e., network packets) includes many features. However, most of them are irrelevant and can lead to a decrease in the runtime and/or the detection performance of the IDS. Although various data mining methods have been applied to improve the effectiveness of IDS, research regarding IDSs having high detection rates and better runtime performance (i.e., lower computational cost) is ongoing. On the other hand, the dimensionality reduction techniques help to eliminate unnecessary features and reduce the computation time of a classification algorithm. In the literature, the feature selection methods (i.e., filter and wrapper) have been widely used for the dimensionality reduction in IDSs. Although the wrapper feature selection techniques outperform the filters, they are time-consuming. Again, the ensemble classifiers can achieve higher detection rates for IDSs compared to the stand-alone classifiers, but they require more computation time to build the model. In order to improve the runtime performance and the detection rate of IDS, a swift wrapper feature selection and a speedy ensemble classifier are proposed in this study. For the dimensionality reduction, the swift wrapper feature selection (i.e., DBDE-QDA) is used, which consists of dichotomous binary differential evolution (DBDE) and quadratic discriminant analysis (QDA). For attack detection, the speedy ensemble classifier is used, which combines Holte's 1R, random tree, and reduced error pruning tree. In the experiments, the NSL-KDD, UNSW-NB15, and CICDDoS2019 datasets are used. According to the experimental results, the proposed IDS reaches 95%-97.4%, 82.7%, and 99.5%-99.9% detection rates for the NSL-KDD, UNSW-NB15, and CICDDoS2019 datasets. In this way, the proposed IDS competes with the state-of-the-art methods in terms of detection rate and false alarm rate. In addition, the proposed IDS has a lower computational cost than the state-of-the-art methods. The interviews explored nurses' perceptions of AI, including its basic concepts, applications in nursing practice, ethical and social implications, and potential benefits and drawbacks.ResultsThe analysis identified four overarching themes: (1) Nurses' Conceptualizations of Artificial Intelligence, (2) Opportunities of AI in Nursing Practice, (3) Threats of AI in Nursing Practice, and (4) Ethical and Psychological Concerns in AI-Based Nursing Practice. The findings revealed that nurses had a foundational understanding of AI and its definitions. They acknowledged both the positive and negative impacts of AI technologies on their practice. Nurses expressed that AI could reduce workload, enhance patient care, and improve efficiency. However, they also articulated significant threats, including concerns over professional redundancy, emotional disconnection in caregiving, de-skilling, and the risk of dehumanizing the healthcare environment. Additionally, ethical and psychological concerns emerged, such as ambiguity in accountability, threats to data security and patient safety, unsuitability in psychiatric care contexts, staff surveillance anxiety, and risks of misuse or systemic bias.ConclusionThe study concluded that while nurses possess a basic understanding of AI, the effective and ethical integration of AI technologies in nursing requires targeted training, institutional preparedness, and robust interdisciplinary collaboration. To ensure AI complements rather than compromises nursing values, it is imperative to equip nurses with skills in digital literacy, ethical reasoning, and critical engagement with AI tools. The findings highlight the necessity of structured education programs and policy development that address both the technological and humanistic dimensions of AI use in healthcare. The research sample consisted of 358 parents who have a child between the ages of 5 and 12 studying in one of the seven state schools at the kindergarten, primary, and secondary school levels in Istanbul. Data were collected between February 2022 to May 2022 using the Parent and Child Descriptive Information Form, the Family Nutrition and Physical Activity (FNPA) Screening Tool, and the FHBS. IBM SPSS 25.0 (IBM, Armonk, NY, USA) and SPSS AMOS 21.0 software were used to analyze the data.Results: It was found that the confirmatory factor analysis result of FHBS confirmed the original structure of the scale, and Cronbach's Alpha coefficient was calculated as 0.80. A positive correlation was found between the parents' total scores of FNPA and FHBS (r:0.511, p < 0.001).Conclusions: It is recommended to evaluate the child and their parents holistically in preventing and managing childhood obesity. School health nurses should plan family-centered interventions to improve health behaviors and carry out these interventions with a multidisciplinary team. Due to a shortage of capacity, hospitals cannot treat all patients. We developed a whole hospital-level decision support system to assess and respond to the needs of local populations. We integrated a comparative forecasting approach and discrete event simulation modelling using Hospital Episode Statistics and local datasets. It is clear from the literature that this level of whole hospital simulation model has never been developed before (an innovative decision support system). First, the demands of all hospital specialties were forecasted, and the forecasts were embedded into the simulation model as input. Secondly, a simulation model was developed to capture the patient pathway of all specialties. The model integrates every component of a hospital to aid with efficient and effective use of scarce resources (e.g., staff and beds). As a result, the hospital can meet the increasing demand with its current resources. According to the scenario analysis, the hospital bed occupancy rate will reach the national target (i.e., 85%), and the total hospital revenue will increase by approximately 13%, with a 10% increase in A&E and outpatient and a 20% increase in inpatient demand. In conclusion, the hospital-level simulation model can become a crucial instrument for decision-makers to provide an efficient service for hospitals in England and other parts of the world. © 2023 The AuthorsArticle The Relationship Between Spiritual Well-Being, Resilience, and Adherence Among Patients Receiving Hemodialysis Treatment in Türkiye(Springer, 2026) Bulbul, Elif; Sukut, Ozge; Dikec, GulThis study examined the relationship between spiritual well-being, resilience, and adherence of hemodialysis patients and the factors affecting them. The data were collected from 182 hemodialysis patients receiving treatment in a dialysis center who met the inclusion criteria by purposive sampling method in Istanbul. The data were collected with the patient description questionnaire, which measures patient sociodemographic characteristics and characteristics related to the medical diagnosis, the Spiritual Well-Being Scale, the Brief Resilience Scale, and the End-Stage Renal Failure-Adherence Questionnaire. Gender, educational status, employment status, and mean age of patients were found to be correlated with psychological resilience. Marital status, employment status, cohabitants, and mean age of patients were found to be correlated with spiritual well-being. Gender, number of weekly dialysis sessions, and dialysis competencies were found to be correlated with hemodialysis patients' adherence to their treatment. Hemodialysis patients' adherence was positively correlated with both the faith subscale of spiritual well-being and psychological resilience. According to regression analysis, gender and resilience explained 12.8% of the total variance of adherence. AimThe authors aimed to give brief information to the international nursing community about the situation related to earthquakes in the aspects of nurses. ConclusionThese earthquakes caused traumatic processes in the affected regions. Many people, including nurses and other healthcare professionals, died or were injured. The results demonstrated that the required preparedness had not been applied. Nurses went to these areas voluntarily or on assignment and cared for individuals with injured. The universities in the country passed to distance education because of the shortage of safe places for victims. This situation also negatively influenced nursing education and clinical practice by interrupting in-person education one more time after the COVID-19 pandemic. Each scale consists of 16 items and four subscales (shame, guilt, authentic pride, and hubristic pride) and items are responded on 5-point Likert scale. The psychometric properties of BASES and BSE-FIT were tested on 332 girls and 264 boys, a total of 596 participants (Mage=13.88, SDage=1.92). Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and exploratory structural equation modelling (ESEM) with multi-group analysis (MGA) were used to test the 4-factor and 2-factor structures and measurement invariance. Cronbach’s alpha internal consistency coefficient and composite reliability (CR) were calculated for reliability. According to the model fit indices and factor loadings, the most appropriate model was the 4-factor CFA model for BASES and BSE-FIT. Cronbach’s alpha and CR coefficients were 0.79 and above in the 4-factor CFA structures of both scales. In addition, MGA demonstrated factor structures, factor loadings, intercepts, and measurement error variance of BASES and BSE-FIT were equivalent according to sex, school level, sport status, region, and body mass index. The aim was to investigate whether adding MT to exercise training and neuromuscular electrical stimulation (NMES) has any effect on clinical measurements, mobility, and functionality in people with multiple sclerosis (MS). Methods Ambulatory people with MS, with unilateral drop foot, were included. MT group (n = 13) applied bilateral ankle exercise program with mirror following NMES for 3 days a week at hospital and exercise program for 2 days a week at home. Control group (n = 13) performed same treatment without mirror box (6 weeks). The later 6 weeks both groups performed only exercise program. Clinical measurements included proprioception, muscle tone of plantar flexor muscles (MAS), muscle strength of dorsiflexor, ankle angular velocity, and range of motion (ROM) of ankle. Functionality (Functional Independence Measurement-FIM), mobility (Rivermead Mobility Index-RMI), ambulation (Functional Ambulation Scale-FAS), duration of stair climb test, and 25-foot walking velocity were assessed at the beginning, in 6th and 12th weeks. Results More positive improvements were obtained in MT group than control group in terms of range of motion (0.012), muscle strength (0.008), proprioception (0.001), 25 feet walking duration (0.015), step test duration (0.001), FAS (0.005), RMI (0.001), and FIM (0.001) after 6 weeks treatment. It was seen that this improvement maintained to 12th week on all clinical and functional measurements (p < .05). Conclusion The trial revealed that adding MT to exercise training and NMES has more beneficial effects on clinical measurements, mobility, and functionality in people with multiple sclerosis with unilateral drop foot.Article 'I Feel Like the Burden of the World Is on My Shoulders': A Phenomenological Qualitative Study on the Life Experiences of Adult Children of Parents with Schizophrenia(BMC, 2025) Pehlivan Saribudak, Tugba; Dag, Zeynep; Ozturk, Ayse; Dikec, GulBackgroundStudies investigating the experiences of adult children of parents with schizophrenia (ACPS) are limited, and no qualitative study examining this issue in T & uuml;rkiye has been previously conducted. This study aimed to examine the life experiences of ACPS providing primary care.MethodsThis phenomenological qualitative study was conducted with 14 ACPS in acute clinics of a regional psychiatric hospital in Istanbul between March and August 2024. Data were collected through in-depth interviews and analyzed using Colaizzi's seven-step analysis method.ResultsData analysis revealed five main themes: (1) Difficult beginning of life, (2) Being a caregiver without receiving care, (3) Emotional storm, (4) Disruption of the flow of life, and (5) Coping. The study found that adult children who cared for their parents could not remember their childhood, had to grow up early without parents, and experienced violence. Adult children had difficulty carrying the burden of care, experienced various emotions at the same time, and care disrupted their lives. They were both using adaptive and maladaptive coping methods.ConclusionsThis study determined that ACPS experienced significant childhood stressors and difficulties providing care in adult life that changed the flow of their daily lives while challenging their ability to cope. Psychiatric nurses have essential tasks to support ACPS in coping with difficult life experiences and reducing their care burdens. They should inform ACPS about schizophrenia, regularly monitor their mental health, and implement initiatives that will protect or improve their mental health.Clinical trial registrationNot applicable.
