Buildings Rising Due To Urban Transformation in the Metropolis, Shrinking Interiors

Abstract

Urban transformation, which is a planned and comprehensive implementation of infrastructure strengthening and renovation of old and unhealthy buildings in order to increase the quality of life of cities, reduce disaster risks, and ensure sustainability, is a concept encountered in many countries. As a part of urban transformation, the planning of green areas, the arrangement of social spaces and many similar issues are also the subject of planning as a part of the transformation. Urban transformation planning requires extra work, especially in highly populated areas with old settlements. Kadıköy district of Istanbul Province, which can be shown as an example of this, is also undergoing a transformation process that needs to be controlled by many laws due to its increasing population and being an old settlement. In this process, which requires the demolition and reconstruction of many apartments, it is seen that the height of the buildings mostly increases, but the interior spaces shrink. Considering the importance of architecture in terms of public memory, the process we are in is of great importance and suggests certain changes in social life. The aim of this study is to convey the reason for the shrinkage of residential interiors in the renovated buildings in the Kadıköy Region, most of which are similar to each other, through the project calculations. This transfer; The architectural project belongs to the author and will be conveyed with a sample that has been renewed within the scope of urban transformation in Kadıköy District. By using the documentary survey model, which is one of the qualitative research methods; Architectural project documents will be examined, and necessary laws and regulations will be used. The study was deemed necessary to record certain data about the transformation process we are in the literature and to clearly convey the architectural and construction details that cause the interior spaces to shrink.
