Abstract
This study was conducted to determine the relationship between participation in prostate cancer screening tests and cancer worry levels among men with a first-degree relative diagnosed with prostate cancer. The study was carried out between September 1, 2025, and December 31, 2025, in the urology department of a training and research hospital in Istanbul, Türkiye. The study population consisted of first-degree male relatives of patients receiving treatment for prostate cancer in the urology department during the study period who met the inclusion criteria. Data were collected through face-to-face interviews using the Descriptive Information Form developed by the researcher and the Cancer Worry Scale. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the chi-square test, independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance , and logistic regression analysis. Statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. The findings revealed that, although the participants were at high risk for prostate cancer, participation in prostate cancer screening tests was low, while willingness to undergo screening was high. Higher levels of cancer worry were associated with increased participation in prostate cancer screening and a greater likelihood of undergoing the Prostate-Specific Antigen (PSA) test. Logistic regression analysis showed that cancer worry was an independent and significant predictor of screening behavior (p < 0.001). The findings suggest that psychological factors, particularly cancer worry, should be considered alongside biological risk factors in the planning and implementation of prostate cancer screening programs. Educational and counseling interventions addressing these factors may contribute to increasing screening participation and promoting the early detection of prostate cancer. Keywords: Cancer anxiety, family history, prostate cancer, screening behavior, urology
