Abstract
As the esports industry rapidly grows, it has become a significant part of young people's lives. Despite the challenges, clubs have had to adapt to this growth. Managing a team, keeping players focused, and maintaining the organization requires more than just gaming skills. Esports clubs face significant challenges in areas such as leadership, strategic planning, human resources, and financial management. Lack of technical infrastructure, communication breakdowns, and loss of motivation are among the most common of these challenges. This study aims to examine the impact of management strategies implemented in esports clubs on club operations and player performance, using the OZU GameHub example. To this end, in-depth interviews were conducted with club managers and players to understand what works and what doesn't in club management. A phenomenological design was adopted in the research, and participants' experiences were analyzed directly based on their own statements. The study addressed leadership, planning, recruitment, and financial management. In addition, questions were asked about technical problems, communication breakdowns, and what happens when players lose motivation; the responses revealed how team performance was affected. The findings show that shortcomings in management processes directly impact player performance. The responses were grouped into five categories: how the club is structured, what people understand by success, how players perform and maintain their motivation, what obstacles stand in the way of good management, and how the club deals with these problems. Based on all of this, the study offers concrete suggestions for better management of esports clubs. The research is expected to contribute to the limited number of studies conducted in this field in Türkiye.
