Profiles of Court-Ordered Psychiatric Hospitalizations in a Regional Mental Health Hospital in Türkiye: A Retrospective Study

Abstract

This retrospective study examined the profiles of mandatorily hospitalized forensic psychiatric cases at a regional psychiatric hospital in Türkiye from January 2015 to June 2024. A total of 530 forensic patient records were analyzed after excluding duplicates. Most patients were male (72.1%), with a mean age of 40.25 years (SD = 13.43). Substance use history was present in 16% of patients; 52.6% had psychotic disorders and 92.5% used antipsychotic medication. Interpersonal offenses accounted for 61.4% of charges, and 59.4% had prior hospitalizations. Prior hospitalization was associated with substance use, male gender, prior offending, and psychosis.
