    Nurses’ Attitudes Toward Physical Examination
(Univ Indonesia, 2026) Cayli, Nazan; Sari, Merve Kiymac; Nirgiz, Cansu; Kıymaç Sarı, Merve
Background: This descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted to determine the attitudes of nurses working in clinical settings toward conducting physical examinations. Methods: The sample surveyed consisted of 364 nurses currently working at 14 branches of a private hospital with facilities in seven cities, who participated voluntarily. Data was collected online via a survey created through Google Forms, applying descriptive characteristics form and the Physical Examination Attitude and Practice Scale in Nursing. The data were analyzed using the Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis test, Spearman's rank-order correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results: It was found that nurses had moderately positive attitudes toward conducting physical examinations in clinical settings, while their participation rates in in-service training related to physical examinations were low. A moderate but significant positive correlation was observed in the scores of the sub-dimension barriers to performing physical examination, and a very weak but significant negative correlation was found in the benefits and usefulness of physical examination. Conclusion: Practical training aimed at improving nurses' knowledge and skills related to physical examination and their cultural sensitivity should be emphasized at the undergraduate level, as well as through in-service training programs.

The Relationship Between Nurses Anxiety and Attitudes Towards Artificial Intelligence and Examination of Influencing Factors
(BMC, 2026) Nirgiz, Cansu; Sari, Merve Kiymac; Cayli, Nazan
Aim to explore the relationships between nurses'anxiety and attitudes toward artificial intelligence (AI) and the factors associated with them. Background Although AI technologies are increasingly integrated into healthcare, research exploring nurses ' psychological readiness and emotional responses to AI remains limited. Existing studies have primarily focused on nursing students or general healthcare professionals, leaving a gap in understanding how practicing nurses perceive and emotionally adapt to AI within real clinical environments-particularly in T & uuml;rkiye, where digital transformation in healthcare is accelerating. Addressing this gap is essential, as nurses play a pivotal role in ensuring the safe and ethical implementation of AI-driven tools in patient care. Methods This descriptive and correlational study included 562 nurses from 14 branches of a private hospital chain across seven Turkish cities between November 2024 and January 2025.This sample was selected because it represents nurses actively engaged in clinical decision-making within healthcare systems that are rapidly adopting AI technologies. According to a power analysis performed in G*Power (rho = 0.25, alpha = 0.05, power = 0.95), the required sample size was 202 participants. Data were collected through an online questionnaire comprising a Descriptive Information Form, the AI Anxiety Scale, and the General Attitudes toward AI Scale. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-tests, ANOVA (F), Tukey post hoc test, Pearson correlation, and multiple regression analyses were conducted. Ethical approval was obtained from the Fenerbah & ccedil;e University Ethics Committee, and informed consent was obtained digitally. Results Nurses reported moderate anxiety levels and generally positive attitudes toward AI. Male nurses showed an association with lower anxiety levels and higher positive attitude scores than female nurses. Single individuals and those with higher levels of education showed higher positive attitudes toward AI. Those with 0-3 years of experience in the profession were associated with lower anxiety and higher positive attitude scores. Nurses who used AI in practice, were knowledgeable about its use, or perceived it as reliable showed a relationship with lower anxiety and more positive attitudes. Regression analysis showed that each one-unit increase in the learning and AI configuration subscales of the AI Anxiety Scale was associated with a 0.740-and 0.716-point lower score in the total attitude score, respectively. Conclusion The findings suggest that lower levels of anxiety related to learning and AI configuration are associated with more positive attitudes toward AI. Addressing these specific anxiety domains may be related to the successful integration of AI technologies into clinical practice and could be linked to the digital transformation in healthcare.

The Relationship Between Rational Drug Use and Health Literacy Among Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing Individuals: A Descriptive Correlational Study
    (2026) Nirgiz, Cansu; Gür, Kamer
Objective: This study aimed to examine the relationship between health literacy and rational drug use among individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Methods: A descriptive, correlational, cross-sectional study was conducted online between March and May 2025 through Disability Solidarity Platforms with 103 participants. Data were collected using a Descriptive Information Form, the 21-item Rational Drug Use Scale (RDUS), and the 12-item Short-Form Health Literacy Scale. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, 1-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple regression analysis were applied in the analyses. Results: Participants’ mean RDUS score was 19.9 ± 8.99 and mean health literacy score was 17.9 ± 13.9, indicating low levels. A significant moderate positive correlation was found between rational drug use and health literacy (P < .001; r=0.386). Female participants had higher rational drug use knowledge (P=.009). Health literacy was significantly higher among younger participants, singles, those with higher education, employment, better economic status, and health insurance (P < .05). Reading habits, internet use for health information, and regular medical check-ups were positively associated with both outcomes. Notably, participants using non-prescription drugs also showed higher rational drug use knowledge. Conclusions: Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals demonstrated low health literacy and rational drug use knowledge. The association between these variables suggests that improving health literacy may enhance rational drug use in this population. Targeted interventions addressing communication barriers and sociodemographic factors are needed. Public health nurses should play a key role in developing accessible education and counseling programs.

The Deep Burden of a Leader at Sea: A Qualitative Swot Analysis of Psychosocial Challenges Reported by Early-Career Turkish Ship Captains
(2026) Sarı, Merve Kıymaç; Nirgiz, Cansu; Dıkeç, Gül
This study systematically explores the psychosocial challenges faced by early-career Turkish ship captains while serving at sea, using the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats (SWOT) framework. Ship captains often experience isolation and demanding working conditions at sea, placing them at risk for various psychosocial challenges, including stress, burnout, and social isolation. Despite the importance of their role in global maritime transport, research examining these psychosocial challenges from ship captains' own perspectives remains limited. In this phenomenological study, in-depth online interviews were conducted with 11 participants actively serving aboard ships at the time of the study. The data were analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological analysis method. Subsequently, the emergent themes were organized within the SWOT framework into four domains and 15 subthemes. The analysis identified four main themes (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats) comprising 15 subthemes. Strengths included motivation, professional experience, leadership skills, and coping strategies. Weaknesses reflected psychosocial challenges, including loneliness, emotional strain, and decision-making difficulties. Opportunities included technological developments, digitalization, international work exposure, and personal and professional growth. Threats included natural and physical risks, organizational pressures, sectoral instability, technological transformation, and gender-based inequalities reported by the participants. The findings of this qualitative study highlight the psychosocial challenges reported by early-career Turkish ship captains and draw attention to the importance of individual and institutional approaches to support psychosocial well-being in similar maritime contexts. The study also underscores the importance of further research involving more diverse samples to better understand psychosocial risks in the maritime sector.

Geleceğin Hemşireliğinde Yapay Zekânın ve Robotik Teknolojilerin Rolü
    (2024) Nirgiz, Cansu

(Wiley, 2025) Kolac, Nurcan; Eroglu, Nermin; Nirgiz, Cansu
Background: This research was conducted in descriptive type to determine the disaster risk perception and sustainable earthquake awareness of nursing students studying at public and private universities. Methods: The study sample consisted of 400 nursing students studying at one public and one private university. The research was conducted between April and May 2023. The data were collected using a Sociodemographic Form, University Students Disaster Risk Perception Scale (USDRPS), and Sustainable Earthquake Awareness Scale (SEAS). Data were collected online using a questionnaire created on Google Forms. Analyses included frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation values, independent groups t-test, post-hoc Tukey test, LSD, and ANOVA test. Results: Of the students, 61.8% had a disaster experience, 17.4% had lost a relative in the disaster, and 76.8% did not consider themselves prepared for a possible disaster. In the study, the exposure sub-dimension score of the disaster risk perception scale was found to be higher in students who had disaster experience than in those who did not (p = 0.032). Nursing students from the private university had higher sustainable earthquake awareness scores than those studying at the state university (p = 0.001). The mean scores of female students on the earthquake preparedness and preparation application sub-dimensions showed a significant difference compared to the scores of male students (p = 0.016). In the study, sustainable earthquake awareness total and earthquake preparedness sub-dimension scores were higher in second-year nursing students than in students of other years (p = 0.042; 0.015). Those who had received disaster training had low scores on the uncontrollable sub-dimension of the disaster risk perception scale, and high scores on the total SEAS and earthquake-structure relationship, earthquake preparedness, and earthquake preparation application sub-dimensions (p < 0.05). Conclusions: In the study, three out of four students did not find themselves prepared for disasters. Those who had disaster experience had higher disaster risk perceptions. Students who had received disaster-related training had more positive earthquake preparedness, earthquake-structure relationship, and earthquake preparation applications than those who had not. Students who were female and were in the second year had higher earthquake awareness. Studies can be carried out to inform people about the pre-disaster and preparation stages to raise awareness about disasters at universities. Education on disaster management can be integrated into courses from the first years of university.

İncinebilir Gruplar ve Halk Sağlığı Hemşiresinin Rolü
    (2025) Nirgiz, Cansu
