Article Design, Synthesis, and Biological Evaluation of Chiral Urea and Thiourea Derivatives as Multitarget-Directed Anti-Alzheimer Agents(Wiley, 2026) Telli, Gokcen; Günal, Şule Erol; Kelekçi, Nesrin Gökhan; Tunçel, Şenel Teke; Sag Erdem, Safiye; Teke Tuncel, Senel; Baysal, Ipek; Erol Gunal, Sule; Erdem, Safiye Sağ; Gokhan Kelekci, Nesrin; Demir, IlkeA series of novel chiral urea and thiourea compounds were designed as multitarget-directed ligands for Alzheimer's disease and evaluated against hAChE, hBChE, and hMAO-B, with exploratory assessment of HSD10. These chiral compounds were synthesized and fully characterized, and their enantiopurity was confirmed via HPLC. Biological screening revealed that several of the 38 single-enantiomer derivatives exhibited potent triple inhibition of hAChE, hBChE, and hMAO-B. Biological screening revealed that a significant number of the 38 synthesized single-enantiomer urea and thiourea derivatives potent inhibition across the primary target panel. Among them, compounds 14S (hAChE: 0.08 μM, hBChE: 0.93 μM, hMAO-B: 0.02 μM), 23R (hAChE: 0.06 μM, hBChE: 0.74 μM, hMAO-B: 0.08 μM), 6S (hAChE: 0.08 μM, hBChE: 0.65 μM, hMAO-B: 0.08 μM), and 30S (hAChE: 0.04 μM, hBChE: 0.74 μM, hMAO-B: 0.19 μM) showed the most promising multitarget profiles. Compounds 6S and 23R also displayed anti-Aβ aggregation activity, whereas 12S combined dual hMAO-B/hAChE inhibition with antioxidant activity. Compounds 3R and 11R were found to be highly active against hMAO-B (0.03 μM and 0.06 μM, respectively) and hBChE (0.68 and 0.72 μM). HSD10 inhibition was limited overall, with only compound 26S showing moderate activity (52.2%) at higher micromolar concentration. Molecular docking and molecular dynamics simulations supported the proposed ligand-target interactions for the most active compounds. In addition, selected derivatives showed no acute cytotoxicity under the tested conditions in HepG2 cells and high permeability potential in the PAMPA-BBB assay. Based on their in vitro profiles, seven compounds (3R, 6S, 11R, 12S, 14S, 23R, and 30S) were advanced to in vivo evaluation, and compounds 6S, 12S, and 23R, 30S produced significant improvements in the Morris Water Maze model. Collectively, these findings identify chiral urea and thiourea derivatives as promising lead structures for further anti-Alzheimer drug discovery.Article 2-Pyrazoline-5-One Derivative Suppresses Cell Proliferation and Induces Apoptosis With Upregulation of Bax in Breast Cancer Cells(Wiley, 2026) Küçükgüzel, Ş. Among its subtypes, luminal A and triple‐negative breast cancers present significant therapeutic challenges due to intrinsic drug resistance and absence of effective targeted treatments. The pharmacological potential of heterocyclic compounds has garnered more attention in recent years, and structures like pyrazolines, hydrazones, and triazoles are important in the development of new drugs. Compounds incorporating these scaffolds have been shown in numerous studies to have strong anticancer action. In this regard, pyrazoline derivatives have become a viable field of study for focused treatment approaches. This study focused on evaluating the cytotoxic potential of the 2‐pyrazoline‐5‐one derivative compound against luminal‐A (MCF‐7) and triple‐negative (MDA‐MB‐231) breast cancer cell lines. The CCK‐8 test was used to assess the impact on cell viability. Additionally, Annexin V/PI staining was used to identify the apoptotic effects, and fluorescence microscopy was used for analysis. The wound healing experiment was used to measure the capacity of cells to migrate, and migration process was monitored following scratch formation. The colony formation assay was used to assess the potential for cell proliferation, and clonal growth capacities were compared. Bax protein levels in compound‐treated cancer cells were quantified by ELISA to investigate the apoptotic mechanism. IC50 values in MCF‐7 and MDA‐MB‐231 cell lines were used to evaluate the cytotoxic effects of the 2‐pyrazoline‐5‐one derivative. The compound exhibited strong cytotoxic activity and reduced cell viability in both cell lines in a concentration‐dependent manner, with IC 50 values of 13 µM in MCF‐7 cells and 16 µM in MDA‐MB‐231 cell. Furthermore, the compound effectively induced apoptosis and significantly suppressed colony formation and cell migration in both cell lines. Additionally, it showed a concentration‐dependent rise in Bax protein levels, suggesting a pro‐apoptotic action. These results confirm that the 2‐pyrazoline‐5‐one derivative has strong antiproliferative and pro‐apoptotic activity through Bax activation, providing a possible pathway for the creation of targeted treatments for breast cancer.Article Impact of Breast Milk Odor Exposure on First Oral Feeding Performance in Preterm Infants Following Non-Nutritive Sucking(Springer Nature, 2026) Gozen, Duygu; Musaoglu, Sukran; Genc, Canan; Ovali, FahriObjective To evaluate the effect of breast milk odor on feeding performance during the first oral feeding of preterm infants.Study design A randomized controlled trial was conducted with 60 preterm infants (26-34 weeks' gestation) in a level-3 NICU in Istanbul. All infants received non-nutritive sucking with a pacifier as standard care. The experimental group (n = 29) additionally received olfactory stimulation with breast milk odor for 1 hour before the first oral feeding, while the control group (n = 31) received pacifier only. Feeding performance was compared between groups. The study was registered at ClinicalTrials.gov (NCT06563973).Results Feeding duration was shorter in the experimental group than in controls (9.17 +/- 1.95 vs. 10.90 +/- 2.83 min), and feeding rate was higher (3.84 +/- 0.98 vs. 3.22 +/- 1.09 mL/min). Experimental group infants also had significantly higher alertness and energy scores on the Early Feeding Skills Assessment.Conclusion Exposure to breast milk odor before the first oral feeding may enhance feeding performance in preterm infants.Clinical trial registration The trial has been registered on , ID: NCT06563973. (). Patient enrollment began prior to trial registration due to the urgency of recruiting within a limited study period and delays in obtaining access to the trial registration platform. The study protocol was finalized and approved by the institutional ethics committee before enrollment, and no changes were made to the protocol after registration.Article Locomotive Syndrome and Related Factors in Older Adults: A Cross‐Sectional Study From Türkiye(Wiley, 2026) Sarı, Merve Kıymaç; Durna, Zehra; Kiymac Sari, MerveABSTRACT Objective To determine the presence of locomotive syndrome (LS) in individuals aged 65 years and older in Türkiye and its relationship with sociodemographic characteristics, health‐related factors, falls, and quality of life. Design and sample This cross‐sectional study was conducted between October 2021 and January 2022 in a private hospital in Istanbul city with 125 individuals aged 65 years and older. Data were collected through a patient information form, the 25‐question Geriatric Locomotive Function Scale (GLFS‐25), the Falls Efficacy Scale International (FES‐I), and the Healthy Days Core Module‐4 (HRQOL‐4). Nonparametric statistical analyses were applied. Results There was a statistically significant positive relationship between GLFS‐25, FES‐I, and HRQOL‐4 scores. A statistically significant and strong positive correlation was found between GLFS‐25 and FES‐I scores ( r s = 0.917, P < 0.01). GLFS‐25 scores were also strongly correlated with the HRQOL‐4 subdomains, including physically unhealthy days (PUD) ( r s = 0.880, P < 0.01), mentally unhealthy days (MUD) ( r s = 0.894, P < 0.01), and activity limitation days (ALD) ( r s = 0.838, P < 0.01). Higher GLFS‐25 scores were significantly associated with older age, the presence of comorbidities, and a history of falls ( P < 0.05). Conclusions The rate of locomotive syndrome was high in individuals aged 65 years and older. There was a relationship between the presence of locomotive syndrome, quality of life, and fall efficacy. Knowing the prevalence of locomotive syndrome and implementing preventive measures is crucial for supporting quality of life in older adults. Supporting independence and protecting quality of life are key responsibilities of nurses, who must understand these factors in older adults.Article Paired Dosimetric Comparison of VMAT-Based Total Body and Total Marrow Irradiation in Adult Leukemia Patients: Enhanced Organ Sparing with Consistent Plan Complexity(Frontiers Media SA, 2026) Yesil, Abdullah; Sahin, SevimBackground/objectives: Total body irradiation (TBI) is widely used in conditioning regimens prior to hematopoietic stem cell transplantation, but it is associated with significant radiation exposure to normal tissues. Total marrow irradiation (TMI) has emerged as a more targeted alternative, aiming to reduce organ-at-risk doses while maintaining target coverage. This study aimed to evaluate whether TMI can provide clinically meaningful organ sparing while maintaining acceptable treatment complexity using a paired dosimetric approach. Methods: Thirty adult patients with acute leukemia who previously received VMAT-based TBI were retrospectively included. For each patient, a corresponding VMAT-based TMI plan was generated using the same CT datasets. To ensure planning efficiency and standardization, target delineation for TMI was facilitated by AI-based auto-segmentation. Plan quality was assessed using the homogeneity index, and complexity was analyzed based on monitor units, segment number, and modulation factor. Paired comparisons were performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: TMI plans demonstrated a consistent and statistically significant reduction in dose to all evaluated organs at risk compared with TBI (p < 0.001). Mean doses to the heart, kidneys, and liver were reduced by approximately 5-6 Gy, and the lung dose was also significantly decreased. TMI provided improved dose homogeneity and showed significantly lower monitor units, segment number, and modulation factor compared with TBI. Conclusions: VMAT-based TMI reduced organ-at-risk doses while preserving target coverage and showing favorable plan quality and complexity metrics. AI-based auto-segmentation may reduce the workload of skeletal target delineation; however, treatment uncertainties related to patient positioning, respiratory motion, and field-junction dose matching should be carefully managed during clinical implementation.Article Disordered Eating Predicts Mindful Eating Regardless of Sex and Disability Status: A Cross-Sectional Study(BMC, 2026) Devrim-lanpir, Asli; Özlevent, Elif İremDisordered eating and mindful eating are under-studied among athletes with disabilities; clarifying their interplay could inform potential prevention strategies. This study examined the relationship between disordered eating and mindful eating in athletes across different sexes and ability statuses, addressing the limited research in disabled populations. In this cross-sectional study, 140 Turkish athletes (70 with physical disabilities; 70 without) completed the Eating Disorder Examination-Questionnaire and the 30-item Mindful Eating Questionnaire. Group differences, Pearson correlations and multiple linear regression were calculated. Global disordered-eating and mindful-eating scores did not differ by disability status or sex. Athletes with disabilities reported lower Emotional Eating (17.6 ± 4.7 vs. 19.4 ± 4.5; p = 0.023) and, among men, higher Mindfulness sub scores (16.0 ± 2.6 vs. 14.6 ± 2.7; p = 0.006). Mindful eating correlated inversely with disordered eating in both groups (with disabilities: r = -0.49, p < 0.001; without: r = -0.32, p = 0.014) and was strongest in women with disabilities (r = -0.76, p < 0.001). Disordered eating emerged as a significant predictor of lower mindful eating (β = -4.66, p < 0.001), explaining 1% of its variance after controlling for age, sex, body-mass index and disability status. Mindful eating is inversely associated with disordered eating across athletes, with the relationship particularly pronounced in women with disabilities. Interventions that cultivate mindful eating could be relevant for managing disordered eating in para-sport. This study explored the link between disordered eating and mindful eating in athletes with and without physical disabilities. A total of 140 Turkish athletes (70 with disabilities, 70 non-disabled athletes) completed questionnaires on their eating behaviours and mindfulness around food. The results showed that athletes with disabilities and non-disabled athletes had similar overall levels of disordered eating and mindful eating. However, athletes with disabilities reported less emotional eating, and men with disabilities reported being more mindful while eating compared to non-disabled men. Importantly, across all groups, higher mindful eating was linked to lower disordered eating. This association was strongest in women with disabilities, suggesting that mindfulness may be particularly protective for them. Further analysis confirmed that disordered eating was the main factor predicting lower mindful eating, regardless of age, sex, body mass index, or disability status. These findings highlight that promoting mindful eating may help reduce disordered eating behaviours in athletes with disabilities and non-disabled athletes. Interventions that teach athletes to pay closer attention to hunger, satiety, and emotional triggers around food could support healthier eating and mental well-being, especially in parasport.Article Women’s Experiences and Perspectives on a Nurse Navigation Program for Cervical Cancer Screening: A Qualitative Study(Frontiers Media SA, 2026) Ozdas, Turkan; Ortabag, Tulay; Donmez, ElifBackground Cervical cancer remains an important public health problem despite the availability of effective screening and prevention strategies. Psychosocial, individual, and health system-related barriers continue to limit women’s participation in cervical cancer screening programs. Recent approaches increasingly emphasize the role of nurse navigation, digital health technologies, media communication, and HPV self-sampling strategies in improving access to preventive healthcare services and promoting screening participation. Therefore, this study aimed to explore in depth the experiences and perspectives of women who participated in a nurse navigation program regarding cervical cancer screening. Methods This thematic qualitative study was conducted in Istanbul, Türkiye, with women who had participated in a nurse navigation program and undergone cervical cancer screening. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through semi-structured in-depth interviews and analysed using thematic analysis. The reporting of the study was guided by the COREQ checklist. Results Twelve women participated in the study. The findings demonstrated that the nurse navigation program improved women’s knowledge and awareness regarding HPV, cervical cancer, and screening. However, psychosocial barriers such as fear, shame, embarrassment, and avoidance of hospital environments continued to influence screening behavior. Participants generally expressed positive attitudes toward HPV self-sampling, media-based awareness strategies, and artificial intelligence–supported health information systems. Individual health perceptions, social support, and health system-related factors were also found to shape women’s participation in screening programs. Conclusion The findings suggested that participants perceived the nurse navigation program as contributing to increased knowledge and awareness regarding HPV, cervical cancer, and screening. Nurse navigation programs may contribute to improving screening participation by providing education, guidance, and supportive communication. Multidimensional and community-based approaches addressing both individual and structural barriers may enhance participation in cervical cancer screening programs.Article Personalized, Physiotherapist-Guided Exercise Programs in JIA: Home-Based vs. Immersive Virtual Reality (JiaFitXR)(2026) Dönmez, İrem; Ayaz, Nuray Aktay; Yekdaneh, Asena; Açıkgöz, Yusuf; Albayrak, Asya; Arman, Nilay; Çakmak, Figen; Aktay Ayaz, NurayOBJECTIVE: To compare the effects of two physiotherapist-guided, personalized, stepwise-adapted exercise interventions-a home-based program (HomeEX) and an immersive virtual reality (IVR) exergaming program (JiaFitXR)-on physical fitness, functional capacity and physical activity in adolescents with Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA). METHODS: This randomized controlled trial included 50 adolescents aged 13-18 years with JIA, randomly assigned (1:1) to HomeEX or JiaFitXR. Both programs targeted balance, strength, endurance and agility, delivered twice weekly for 8 weeks under physiotherapist supervision. Functional capacity (6-Min Walk Test, Sit-to-Stand, Step-Up/Step-Down tests) and physical fitness (FitnessGram components, muscle strength, EMG activation, grip force) were assessed pre- and post-intervention by blinded physiotherapists. Analyses were performed using paired and independent t-tests and repeated-measures ANOVA, following the intention-to-treat principle. RESULTS: Both physiotherapist-guided interventions significantly improved physical fitness, functional capacity and daily activity (P < 0.05). Greater gains in 1-Min Sit-to-Stand, Step-Up and Step-Down tests, as well as in lower-extremity endurance and neuromuscular activation, were observed in the JiaFitXR group (P < 0.05). The HomeEX group showed superior improvements in flexibility and upper-extremity strength (P < 0.05). Step counts increased similarly in both the groups, while perceived exertion remained stable throughout the program. CONCLUSION: Both physiotherapist-guided exercise approaches effectively enhanced physical and functional outcomes in adolescents with JIA. The IVR-based intervention provided additional benefits in lower-extremity endurance and engagement, supporting its potential as an innovative and motivating adjunct to paediatric rheumatology rehabilitation. Although nutrition knowledge is frequently emphasized in PCOS management, its association with symptom severity and quality of life remains unclear. This web-based analytical cross-sectional study examined associations between nutrition knowledge, diet-related preferences, lifestyle behaviors, symptom burden, and quality of life among 330 Turkish women aged 18-45 years with a self-reported physician diagnosis of PCOS. Nutrition knowledge and diet-related preferences were assessed using validated instruments, quality of life was assessed using the SF-12, and symptom burden was summarized using an index derived from a PCOS-related symptom checklist. Higher body mass index was associated with greater symptom burden and poorer physical health, whereas regular physical activity was associated with better physical functioning. Nutrition knowledge was positively associated with healthier diet-related preferences but was not associated with symptom burden or quality of life. In multivariable analyses, body mass index remained the strongest predictor of symptom burden, while nutrition knowledge and diet-related preferences were not significant contributors. These findings indicate a knowledge-outcome disconnect in PCOS, suggesting that higher nutrition knowledge may align with healthier preferences without corresponding improvements in health outcomes. Because dietary intake and eating behaviors were not directly measured, conclusions regarding behavior should be interpreted cautiously. Public health and women's health interventions may benefit from integrating nutrition education with behavior change support, weight management, and physical activity promotion.Article Citation - WoS: 1Citation - Scopus: 1Deep Learning in Acute Ischemic Stroke Imaging: A Systematic Review of CT- and MRI-Based Segmentation, Triage, and Prognostic Modeling(Springer, 2026) Ince, Suat; Bayram, Bilal; Kilicarslan, Serhat; Pacal, Ishak; Kunduracioglu, Ismail; Veziroglu, ErkanBACKGROUND: Acute ischemic stroke is a time-critical neurological emergency in which imaging directly influences diagnosis, treatment eligibility, tissue-at-risk estimation, workflow prioritization, and outcome prediction. Deep learning has become increasingly prominent in stroke imaging; however, its clinical role differs substantially between computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). OBJECTIVE: This PRISMA-guided systematic review evaluated peer-reviewed studies published between January 2023 and March 2026 that applied deep learning to acute ischemic stroke imaging. METHODS: Searches across major biomedical, engineering, and clinical databases identified 91 eligible studies. Extracted data included imaging modality, dataset source, clinical task, model architecture, validation strategy, and reported performance metrics. RESULTS: MRI-based studies predominantly addressed lesion segmentation and tissue characterization using DWI, ADC, FLAIR, and multimodal MRI. In this setting, U-Net-derived architectures, self-configuring frameworks, attention-based models, and selected CNN-Transformer hybrids frequently achieved strong Dice and IoU values on benchmark datasets, particularly ISLES 2015 and ISLES 2022. CT-based studies followed a different clinical direction, with greater emphasis on emergency triage, hemorrhage exclusion, large-vessel occlusion detection, stroke classification, ASPECTS-related assessment, and CTP-based core-penumbra estimation. High retrospective accuracy or AUC values in CT studies should be interpreted cautiously, since image-level classification performance does not establish reliable voxel-level lesion delineation, especially on NCCT, where early ischemic changes remain subtle and difficult to segment. CONCLUSION: Across both modalities, technical progress remains ahead of clinical validation. External testing, patient-level separation, standardized reporting, scanner robustness, interpretability, and prospective workflow evaluation are still inconsistently addressed. The field now requires a shift from isolated benchmark performance toward clinically interpretable, externally validated, and prognosis-aware systems that can support real-time neuroradiology decision-making.
