Article Citation Count: 0Measurement of Perceived Psychological Safety: Integration, Review and Evidences for the Scale in the Context of Turkiye(Istanbul Univ, Methodology & Sociology Research Center, 2022) Aytaç, Sevinç Serpil; Isiacik, Serin; Aytac, Serpil; Psikoloji BölümüPsychological safety can predict many positive individual and organizational outcomes at work, and previous research addressed how psychological safety contributes to positive work attitudes and behaviors. In Turkey, there is quite an amount of research showing the contributing role of psychological safety perception on employees' positive performance behaviors and organizational effectiveness and innovativeness. However, previous research in Turkey does not adequately show the reliability and validity of the psychological safety scale, which was developed by Edmondson (1999). Based on the suggested requirement this study aimed to investigate the psychological safety perceptions of individuals who work in various sectors in Turkey. The adapted version of the psychological safety scale was used to gain evidence for the reliability and validity of the instrument in Turkey. In total, 585 individuals working in various industries and from various occupational groups participated in the research. Both exploratory factor analysis and the confirmatory factor analysis showed that Turkish adapted version of the psychological safety scale was valid and reliable.Article Citation Count: 0Perception of Quality of Work Life in Employees in the Covid-19 Pandemic(Lahore Medical & dental Coll, 2022) Aytaç, Sevinç Serpil; Kaya, Ozlem; Psikoloji BölümüAim: In this study, it was aimed to investigate the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the quality of working life. Methods: Within the scope of the study, questionnaire was applied to 510 people working in the public and private sectors in Turkey. The survey form consists of sections on employee's demographic information, and quality of working life scale. The research was conducted through an online survey between April 2020 and July 2020 and delivered to a wide audience through the researchers' social networks. This data, collected by convenience sampling method. Descriptive statistics and t-test were used to analyze the study data. Results: It was found that there was a statistically significant difference between the participants' way of working at home or remotely during the pandemic period (t = 3.625, p-value = 0.000) and their gender and the mean total score of QWL (t =-3.005, p-value = 0.003). Conclusion: The study results show that the COVID 19 pandemic has negative effects on the quality of working life. In addition, both public and private sector employees have experienced serious changes in their working life in this process, and in this case, it is seen that their working life quality is adversely affected.Article Citation Count: 3The Prevalence of Violence Against Healthcare Workers in Turkey and Employee Job Satisfaction(Lahore Medical & dental Coll, 2021) Aytaç, Sevinç Serpil; Aytac, Sevinc Serpil; Psikoloji BölümüAim: To reveal the different dimensions of workplace violence that healthcare workers are exposed to, and to evaluate the impact of exposure to violence on the job satisfaction of healthcare workers. Methods: The study sample comprises 169 people working in different positions in the hospital (doctor, nurse, secretary, assistant staff, etc.). The Workplace Violence Questionnaire and Job Satisfaction Scale were used to collect the study data. The questionnaire forms were distributed in closed envelopes according to the random sampling method, and were filled out by the volunteer participants themselves. Descriptive statistics and t-test were used to analyze the study data. Results: The results of the study show that more than half of the hospital staff (57.5%) had been exposed to violence in the last year; 54.8% of participants were exposed to verbal violence, 26% were exposed to physical violence, and 5.4% were exposed to sexual harassment. In addition, it was found that the job satisfaction levels of those individuals who were exposed to violence (16.71) were lower than the job satisfaction level of those who were not exposed to violence (18.59) (t = -2.793, p-value = 0.006). Conclusion: The study results show that healthcare workers are at serious risk of violence in the workplace. In addition, it is observed that exposure to violence negatively affects job satisfaction, which is important in regarding workplace attitude.Article Citation Count: 2The Psycho-Social Effect of The Earthquake on Women in The Eartquake, One of The Disadvantaged Groups: a Qualitative Research(Mehmet Akif Ersoy Univ, 2023) Aytaç, Sevinç Serpil; Aytac, Serpil; Psikoloji BölümüDisasters are natural events that vary in severity and impact depending on the location. Disasters damage buildings, products, crops, the environment, people, animals, in short, everything animate and inanimate, and cause living beings to lose their lives regardless of time and place. Individuals are psychologically affected negatively by disasters such as earthquakes. The aim of this study is to evaluate the psycho-social impact of the earthquake that occurred in Kahramanmaras in southeast Turkey on February 6, 2023, on women, one of the disadvantaged groups, in Turkey. As a result of the research, it was understood that the last earthquake disaster in Turkey had a significant impact on women, and how important psychological resilience is in being prepared for disasters. According to the results of the research, it was seen that women had difficulties in coping with the problems they faced during and after the earthquake, they faced stress/depression/anxiety, burnout and the regional conditions had a significant impact on this process. In this direction, it was observed that the earthquake negatively affected the women participating in the research, causing their psychological health disorders and causing depression symptoms.Article Citation Count: 0Stress and Quality of Life: the Mediating Role of Happiness(Istanbul Univ, Methodology & Sociology Research Center, 2024) Aytaç, Sevinç Serpil; Bayram-Arli, Nuran; Dev, Mine Aydemir; Psikoloji BölümüThe aim of the study is to test the mediating role of happiness in the relationship between stress and quality of life. The study uses the Turkish version of the World Health Organization's (WHO) brief Quality of Life (WHOQOL-BREF) Scale to measure quality of life. The WHOQOL-BREF Scale has four main domains: physical, psychological, social relations, and environmental. In addition, the study uses the Turkish version of the Oxford Happiness Questionnaire to measure individuals' happiness levels and the stress sub -scale from the Turkish adaptation of the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-42) to measure stress levels. A total of 216 people aged 18 or older participated in the study. Model 4 in Process Macro was used to test the hypotheses related to the research model. The highest relationship between domain values was obtained between the psychological and physical domains. According to the mediation analysis findings, happiness mediates the relationship between stress and all domains of quality of life. These results emphasize the importance of happiness in individuals' lives. The study has concluded stress to have an indirect and large effect size on all domains of quality of life and found the highest indirect effect size of stress to be on the psychological domain. Based on the results, paying special attention to happiness levels is suggested in order to improve quality of life, the ability to cope effectively with stress and tension, and to empower oneself.Article Citation Count: 0Workplace Violence Against Police Officers and the Effect of Workplace Violence on Mental Health(Lahore Medical Research Center Llp, 2021) Aytaç, Sevinç Serpil; Aytac, Sevinc Serpil; Psikoloji BölümüAim: The aim of the research is to reveal the prevalence of violence against police officers and to examine the effect of being subjected to violence on their mental health. Methods: The sample of the research consists of 339 police officers working in different duty areas. Questionnaire technique was used to collect data in the study. The questionnaire form consists of two parts. In the first part of the questionnaire, there are questions to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants (age, gender, marital status, education level, working year, etc.). In the second part of the questionnaire, there are questions to measure workplace violence and the Depression-Anxiety-Stress Scale. SPSS 23.0 package program was used in the analysis of the research data. Frequency distribution, descriptive statistics and t-test were used in the analysis of the data. Results: In the current study, it has been determined that 39.2% of police officers have been exposed to at least one type of workplace violence in the last 1 year. It was observed that the most common type of violence was verbal violence (28.9%). The results show that exposure to workplace violence negatively affects the stress and depression levels of police officers. Conclusion: Research results show that workplace violence is an important risk factor for police officers. Being exposed to violence also negatively affects the mental health of police officers. These results show the importance of implementing policies to prevent violence against police officers.
